What's your instrument warm up?

Lately I have been correcting movements of two fingers on my left hand which stopped me from speed improvement, so my warm up is more than a warm up for now, it's a substantial part of practice. It includes both slow and fast tempos and takes me about 30 minutes. Sometimes, I do it longer. Usually I start with scales (4, 3, 2 fingers + combinations), in quarters, eights, triplets, sixteenths, quintoles, etc., then arpeggios short and long in different combinations. Then optionally trills, thirds, forths, some of my professor's or other harpists exercises, Larivier, Chiara.... ;) ;) ;)

@@chiarapedrazzettiarpatelie6470 Thank you! Not sure what is an English term.. There weren't right points on my fingers where they touch and pluck strings. Hence no control, no weight, no footing. And there were excess movements after plucking, which slowed me down.

@@sophiesunder8445 Interesting, they're all common problems, especially the excess movement after plucking. You'll get there, be consistant and be proud of your improvements! XX

The 234 is fantastic. I'm going to incorporate that in my warm up. I like the bochsa op.318 about 4 of them that cover the positions. Thank you so much for your wonderful videos. Bella!

Have you also tried the octave with 24? In general playing without thumb is a fantastic way to check if your hand is stable and works well!

That one may be a little too advanced for me right now. Lol it’s something to work towards! Sadly I have tendon problems in both of my thumbs, but I do what I can to play safely. I’d like to find a way to practice daily, but get the most out of maybe…. 15 minutes? That way when I’m really not feeling well(which is often), I can still feel motivated to practice even for a short time

I'm sorry for your tendon problems, it must be annoying... For the 15 minutes practice, I suggest you to be organized: write down what you want to work on and be focused on that!

You are way above my pay-grade! (I am amateur!) But I really love watching your videos! What would you suggest for amateur warm up! I really like your example of the rock for hand position! I have problem with the position of my hand(s) on the strings - I am self taught from videos (I have piano back ground - but I am poor at musical theory!) 😁 I notice that many harp players have just a little bit different style of how they hold their hands and pluck the strings. But I love the sound of your music and you give your (online) "students" much good advice and technique with always lots of smiles and joy! Thank you got taking time to teach and share your skills! Thanks! I'll add this topic to my list of videos. Yes, these warm up are hard, quick and effective, thought mostly for professionals and people with already a strong base. I'll definitely do an "easier" one, thanks for the idea!

place 432 then play 43 and then place 43 before playing 2! (I hope it's clear)
