How about some slats with groves to hold the totes side totes under your shelves. Then a shelf that has jar lids attached to them. The jars can hold your small stuff like screws.

I remember back in 1997, shortly after I got out of college, my old TV crapped out on me so I needed to buy a new one. I went "big" with a CRT at 26" -- and needed to enlist a friend to help carry it upstairs. A few years ago, one of my LCD monitors (24", I believe) died, and I was replacing it with an LED. I remember lifting the LCD and saying "this thing is heavy!" (because the LED was so much lighter), and kinda felt like kicking my own ass.

I agree with the French cleats idea. I am in the process of insulating and sheet rocking my shop and am looking to put up French cleats to handle tools and parts to save floor space.

French cleats, then as you live with them and want to make changes it is easy to modify and move things to a different spot. Great utilization of a small space, looking forward to seeing the complete shop.

Wow Sam this is a great set up! I can’t Waite for the day I get my prefab shed building for my real shop! Love the laser set up you will do well with this! I decided for now dust collection is number one in my very small corner of my garage. Ordered parts to do the harbor freight 2hp hack upgrade ! Super excited to build and try out. Will hook up to the shapoko and going to add a down draft table. Looking forward to see what you come up with for your tool wall! Oh and that heated cabinet wow brilliant idea I am going to make one to keep my resin from getting to cold! Thanks for the great idea!

Ha Sam, Congratulations on the new lasers and looking forward to seeing the reviews. I vote for French cleat system. I have one wall in my shop with them and have loved it. Easy to adjust or totally change and mounting systems are as easy or complex as you want. I built simple but have sense changed a lot of mine to things I cut on CNC. Good luck from Middle Tennessee

Sam, Great job. I love using french Cleats, in fact i made one for my 65” tv in the shop. So if for some reason I need to take down, all I have to do is lift it and set it down the the work bench. Keep up the great work Sam…. Thanks for all your ideas.

Hi Sam. Love the channel. Wanted to suggest and maybe you already know, but if it matters, pilot hole those screws going into the end of those footer and header ends so they don't split on you. I know it's an extra step and I'm pretty sure I've seen you do it before. Thanks for all of your great content and letting us see your great ideas.

Good call on the large screen. Over time you will appreciate it more and more. I'm finally getting to work and play in shop buildings rather than ON shop buildings, it's been almost 4 years of work getting our retirement place and outbuildings all sorted out along with fixing up a house for sale several hours away. I'd go with French cleats, but honestly about the only tools i like to hang on walls are levels, large squares, and larger saws. I've build wall hanging tool cabinets, tool panels, French cleat setups, and so far have ended up being displeased with all of them. In my new shop over one bench I MAY make a wall mounted rack for a dozen or so chisels, they are one of the few tool types that don't seem to like living in drawers no matter how you divvy up the space. Hopefully this week I'll get the venting run for my lasers. Isn't it nice working towards being in the shop and out of heavy construction mode? It's looking good, well done!

Sam: have you considered hanging suspension pulleys or whatever from ceiling. System in which you can raise and lower hand tools, etc and utilize void space above you. Love your videos😀

If you're running Windows on your PC, I'd install Microsoft's Power Toys and use the Fancy Zones applet to create a few fixed size drop zones for applications, web tabs, etc. When you drag & drop an app to one of your predefined zones, it will automatically snap the application to the size you specified for that zone. I have a 43" monitor and 9 zones defined. My email is always in the lower right one, Teams in the center, different browser windows go in different other spots/zones. Each zone is like a 15" or bigger monitor in size. It makes using all that screen real estate much easier. You could have one zone setup for each laser's control software or browser window, one for your design software, one for your email, one for your shipping application, etc.

That is quite the setup you've got going there, Sam. Well done. As for suggestions, I'd go french cleats all around. Those shelf brackets are nice, so outfit them with some cleats and then you can arrange and rearrange as you go. Another suggestion would be a pull out shelf for your keyboard. I'm not sure how you'd pull that off given the design of the whole bench, but something to consider. Maybe a hover board. Lol

I’m super excited to see your shop and channel grow! Congrats on the new lasers! You mentioned one of them was for metal engraving. Can you spill the beans on what the other two will be working on? Or will that be trial and error at first as you put them through their paces? Any side by side comparisons in mind?

The CO2 laser will likely become the workhorse of my small business and let the Ortur relax some. :) I'll make jigs and templates for larger batch productions and also have the ability to cut thicker wood objects in a faster time. The xTool has been what many consider the best diode laser on the market and I'm eager to see what all the fuss is about and test out their current "best setup" to see if it's really that great. The ATOMSTACK M4 is going to be put to work for metal engravings and hopefully help expand that lineup / material offerings for my small business. As I finished the ATOMSTACK M4 video this week, I already have a head-to-head video I want to do: slate coaster: xtool vs. ortur vs. atomstack. Who's fastest, who's best? :)

I suggest picking up a few cheap webcams to mount inside the laser enclosures (including the ones you have yet to set up for those open lasers), you can put the cam feeds up on the big screen to keep an eye on things without goggles.

I have been looking at the Gweike and the xTool 20w as a first laser. When I saw the Atomstack I thought with the smaller type items you engrave the xTool F1 or the LaserPecker 4 might be great for your shop. Looking forward to see what you get up to.

Hi Sam, love Laser Town! Great place to work, awesome job! I just upgraded my Ortur LM2 Pro S2 LF with the Ortur 10 Watt module and loving it so far. I also like the Gweike you have, I was considering getting that myself but I decide to build a 55W CO2 with a 16” x 24” bed. Most of the parts have arrived, can’t wait to start the build. I like the setup and the array of lasers you have now. I completely agree with your "needs" justification on that screen. Also want to remind you to plug the fact that you are running all of this in an off-grid shop. I think that fact is worth repeating on these videos when you are showing off lots of potentially power-hungry devices. I think you alluded to it when you talked about the glue warming box though.

Check these three videos: "French cleats that lock in place" House Doctor Ray - channel To better secure small and light French cleat mounts, I added a self-locking mechanism. The purpose of the mechanism is to mimic the effects of the cleat being weighed down and so securing the French cleat. "Self-Locking French Cleat Mount - How To" Woodshop Junkies - channel This is a better way to use french cleats for tool storage and organization for your woodworking tools. A simple DIY shop made locking mechanism will keep your cleats in place and help you get organized. I made the cleats in the video with 5mm plywood which might be a little thin but I don’t think you’ll need more than ¼”. Unless you are hanging your table saw on the wall ¾” cleats are probably overkill. Having the tool bracket extend both above and below the cleat will make it even more stable "Three Ways TO Make Locking French Cleats" LastingBuild - channel He present three options for locking your French cleat tool holders to the wall. The three methods in this video are named the screw method, wedge method and traditional joinery method. Idea is great, but don't really care for the lengths of the locking piece. Think about it, what are you going to do if there are other cleats mounted along side that particular cleats? Removing those so you can can remove just one? Make the locking board short, make two, one for each side. And they don't have to very wide, abot an inch at the most, why bnmount the board at the very bottom, just move it far enough for these two shorties to slide in, thereeby locking the French Cleats into. And why use 3/4 inch or more in thickness? Are you going to be hanging a shelf which hold 200 pounds of extra weight?Why not use just 1/8" or even at the 1/4" thick material for all of those French Cleats, with the exceptions of those spring loaded lockers? Just my thoughts & observations...

Nice job Sam. I like the look of those shelf brackets a lot. I'd be weary of the gweike; there's not many good things mentioned about it on reddit, and there's reports of them blocking negative reviews. Looking forward to the tool wall video. I'd go for french cleats.

I didn't know you joined the Fiber and CO2 crowd. Welcome aboard. XTool are awesome as well. Much better than the Ortur....lol I own them all but the Fiber, but I have the FoxAlien 20 Watt to take it's place. I went huge on the CO2 with the OmTech 60 watt 2026 Floor model.

Hi Samcraft. Yes, I needed to disconnect the 1st M1 machine, connect the 2nd one to my laptop actually, then change the name of it. It picked it as wifi on my PC. Back on my laptop the M1 is also connected through now through USB. So looks like I figured it out. Cheers. Hey if you get an opportunity, would love to see a laser engrave on 1/8 inch thick kraft corrugated cardboard. How would you go about with the settings to get deep engrave and some colors of black, grey, white? Thank you very much if you get around to experimenting.

I'm tempted for my outur, build a "lift" base for it, Normally keep it up, right against the bottom, but allow it to screw down for enough room for the Roller adataper for doing mugs/drink conainters. By pure luck, I landed on an awesome setup for doing square-ish shot glasses. Raise the front of the unit just right, and the angle of travel ended up being paralell with the side of the shot glasses and jsut the right heigth! Then for repeatable placement, my combination sauare is clamped to the table top, and you just slide the glasses over the end of the rule on it. Now to just get consistant prepaint and engrave settings... sigh...

Instead of the light bulb get a golden rod. You can find them at marine stores. I think Defender Marine or West Marine carries them.

Looks awesome! How are you venting out the fumes? I know you had a window in your old shop. Sorry if it is in one of the other videos, I've not had time to partake in fun/interesting videos for a while. I got the Ortur Laser Master Pro 2 after you first showed it over a year ago. Mine is still in the box, haven't had time or the place to set up thus far. Hopefully going to clear out an area in the garage to enjoy this tool. Thanks for the videos.

If you look closely in the video you'll see a 2" PVC pipe in the right corner behind the Ortur. I have the exhaust port taped to it, then running up and out my eave/soffit for the Ortur. I just installed the 6" vent for the large Gweike Cloud Pro CO2 laser yesterday. It's a household style dryer vent going through the wall with the duct connected to it. I have another 4" vent that will be used for the smaller diode lasers soon. They'll all vent out that one port eventually. I also have a 4" inline duct fan coming to help with them. All of this will be shown at some point in a video. :)

Wow Sam that looks amazing like always, wouldn't expect anything less from you. Do have 1 question, how did you hook up the computer to the tv as a monitor? I have a 55inch Samsung 3D tv that I've been wanting to do the same thing with but I couldn't get it to work, I used HDMI cable and ran to one of the inputs, the same one that my blurae used but didn't work, any ideas or suggestions would be great since I don't use the tv, I watch on my computers. Take Sam and give my best to Angela.

Ohh, a M4.. I REALLY want one of those (or a larger fiber). A suggestion you might look at, put your laptop/tablet, keyboard and all on one of those swing-arm mounts. Some of them will even let you stown it flat against the wall. If it were me, I'd probably replace the tablet with a USFF box, something like a Dell/Wyse 5070 that can be wall mounted, then you just need space for using the keyboard/mouse, and has a considerable amount more power than the Atom in that Fwin232 you're running now (also can be upgraded with larger storage and memory internally, Lightburn runs much better on the Celeron quad core in those machines than on the atom, much smoother, especially if you throw 16g at it). As for storage, maybe make some shelves under the benches, with heavy duty slides on them so they can be pulled out to access what's on them. IT'd definitely be handy for the heavy stuff like a full case of coasters.

You could also go with one of those under-desktop mouse/keyboard trays, but you'd have to sacrifice a bit of storage space underneath.

Sam, I am thinking of doing something similar to you as a side hustle. I know it's an impertinent question, but you have gone into the financial details in the past. Would you ever discuss how much profit you make versus the time you put into the laser engraving projects? I understand if that's not something you want to discuss, but I do think people would be interested in this aspect. Most people won't talk about it at all, unfortunately.

A TV that big "back in the day" would have been a projection TV and you wouldn't have had room for anything else in your shop. And they broke down for absolutely no reason at all. The '80's were rough.

Hey Sam, love your videos and your willingness to share your experiences. I am an up and coming maker (as in starting do do it as a business) and have found inspiration in a lot of what you do. For your shelf brackets, did you CNC those? I'm mostly working on converting a garage into my dedicated shop and have been spending most of my time working on that lately but like you, doing it myself is taking longer than I had wished. I have an xCarve CNC but I've not yet used it. I don't like subscription software and really don't think I want to use the Easel software. I've been considering vCarve software since it's a buy once cry once purchase. Do you have any opinion on software to use with my CNC?

if I may ask, we 4 different lasers? does each 1 do something the others don't or is it to have multiples going at the same time? I looking into getting started and I'm so confused with all the diff types, speeds, sizes, add ons, diodes, c02, my head is spinning. maybe I shouldn't paused to ask, when I un paused you answered 1 of my questions. so, I guess I'll be watching more.

They are still in the workshop, but not used much anymore. Their diodes only being 5w makes them very low powered vs the 10w and 20w of the two diode lasers I have now.

I did, but way back over a year ago when we lived in NC. I had grand ideas to make and sell them, so spent a lot of time designing and developing several styles. Then my source for Baltic birch dried up, we moved to TN and rebuilt everything, and I've since not found any sources for the CNC. Alas... the way it goes. :)

Yay you got the Xtool D1 pro 20W. I just set mine up last week. I've made one project( layered wood xmas ornaments) and while I am super impressed, I can't wait to see what you do with it. So far my only real complaint is getting the smell out the shop. Curious if you will cut it with now that you have a 20 watt.

I intend to put it through its paces to see how well it does cutting, yes! I have the enclosure that xTool sells and will try it out. I'm going into that one with tainted feelings though since it's fabric/velcro. I think it's just going to feel so cheap and let me down. We'll see...

@@Samcraftcom You can always build one later but as I was mentioning on someone elses page, the reason that enclosure shines is because it's portable and fireproof. It probably took me 3 minutes to put it together. Two things that wouldn't really be a thing if I had built it myself. The fan also kind of sucks( or doesn't suck as well as I want it to), but those are easily upgraded.

What computer are you using in your shop to run your laser. I have a tv in my garage over my onefinity CNC that I can use for my laser and CNC but I’m debating on if I need to buy a laptop or not. Thanks in advance
