Been mentioned that you were deported from the USA. I think you will be happy in Cambodia than in the U.S. where I live now for over 48 years. In the us it's all pretentious living. People are very materialistic and never talk to each other. We are all living in the plastic cards. If you are in trouble, no neighbor or anyone will help you. I envy your place, simple and clean living. Good air, environment and all natural foods and fruits. GOOD LUCK

zzzzzsleeping , I don't know what part of U.S you're from, but you are so right about people living in the U.S are so pretentious and materialistic! I thought, I was the only one seeing this, so I agreed with you 110%!

Watched a couple of your videos of you in Cambodia, some advice maybe too late. Don't drink Anchor beer drink Angkor or Cambodian better and watch the food they put MSG in everything and if your not use to it you will get sick from it. head ache, joint pain, stomach problems. I can't eat it , I get really sick. Love your uncle's place I'm living in Phnom Penh, because of my kids for their education, the schools aren't the best in the countryside and no Universities. I have family in Battambang and Takeo so I get out of the city now and then. I'm a barang , but have a K'mai wife. Great to see a vlog showing a little K'mai culture, not the usual Angkor Wat and Sihanoukville; there's a lot more to discover. Love seeing you get back to your roots, funny for myself too, because I'm a barang and know more than you about some things. I have lived here over a decade though, but you speak K'mai still, which is great. Oh and your uncle's not alone there have been a lot of recent deportation from the US of K'mai people that don't know anything about the language or culture. Just because they never bothered to get citizenship in the US then got in trouble with the law and you know the rest, but they are having a real hard time, because they're like a barang , but in a K'mai body. Feel bad for them like your uncle their families are back in the US, but they have nothing here. Your uncle is at least upper class now. Happy travels, good luck, health and prosperity. Kevin

Most of Khmer singers who created that style rock music were killed during the war and Srey Channthy was one of the main artists who were revitalizing that era of music. It's a very sad loss :(

Hey Pu Savi I got family 20 minutes away from Phnom Sampov in the Phum Sala Balat ភូមិ សាលា បាឡាត់ in Krong Battambong area! I'm trying to do a solo Cambodia trip later next year. Let me know if you have some kind of Airbnb setup! Your uncle is really cool too. You should do more Cambodia travel. I watched all of your Cambodia vlogs. And btw I'm from MD, USA.

sokbandith chan you don’t need to do anything, they don’t even ask me question about it. Drones are legal in Cambodia, just don’t fly at Phnom Penh. Also keep batteries with your carry on and up to you whether to check or carry on the drone.

Savy, since your uncle deported back to Cambodia, what does he do for a living? From the look of his house, he is an upper class Cambodian. May be he is better off living there. The house and the view is very beautiful. Saves you a lot of money in Hotel stays when you go back home.
@saviyou
@saviyou 6 жыл бұрын
Everything he has currently was paid for by his family (3 sisters and his ex-wife in the US). He doesn't really need much money to live...he told me when he goes to buy food, $5 can last him a few days because it's just him, so they send him money to help occasionally. But he can live with no money by just eating fish, fruits and rice.

Savi You I feel sorry for him for losing his family. I hope his children in the US keep in contact with him. I don’t live far from you, only 1.3 hrs away. Your videos give the true rural side of Cambodia. Wish your uncle the best and hopefully he will have a new family of his own. If am ever in Lebanon, I will keep my eye out for you. Like to meet in person and say hi. Keep the VLog coming. Love every single one of it.

Actually, now that I think of it, my uncle installed a few solar lights around his house...just the cheap kind, but I don't see huge arrays of solar panels. Might be some good business to install those if you can get them from China (Cambodia and China are trade partners)

Love seeing those Flag in the bed room. I moved my entire family to live in Srok Khmer in 2017 and enjoy every moment here despite living in the USA for over 35 years. Talking about Solar Electricity there’s plenty of companies selling them at whatever price point. For those whose seek to take a trip to Cambodia please do so, Since it’s so beautiful and peaceful around Cambodia. Just save your money. I’m Khmer.

I see you have met much family. Uncles, Aunts, Cousins. But when they meet you they seem to just look at you and move on. Am I missing something? When I moved to my mom's country, I met cousins and family and we were very pleased to meet each other with hugs or handshakes. I am Western, so maybe it is cultural, I am curious to find out. I guess I was expecting them to be like "oh wow, you are family, tell me about yourself, etc."
@saviyou
@saviyou 6 жыл бұрын
I’m not always recording my first meeting with people but usually khmer don’t hug or handshake...we “Sampeah”. Also some of them are reserved at first because they don’t speak English and don’t realize I know how to speak khmer. I had many conversations off camera about me, my family and life in the US.

Ok, I was hoping that was the case, but didn't want to assume anything. I felt kinda bad for you at first. :) I saw another video of your family/friends here in the USA and they are all super friendly to you and whatnot and I think thats what made me ask this. I hope the wording of my question wasn't condescending or something like that. You seem really down to earth with great family. World can use more guys like you. Keep living the life, man!

My uncle didn’t have too much difficulty when he arrived...he lived around a lot of old school khmer in the US. Also had a lot of support. I admit, I use msg often just not as much as they do in Cambodia. There is actually a lot of natural msg in many foods we consume in the US. In the US I lived around mostly whites so lost a lot of my khmer culture but like you said I’m trying to get back to my roots. I hate all the videos I see about Cambodia is usually by barang visiting the same tourist places so my goal was to show what srok Khmer is really like. Thx for all the comments Kevin maybe someday we can meet next time I’m in PP 😉

Yeah, I loved your videos, very refreshing to see something done on how most Khmer people live. Starting now we have weddings almost every weekend we get invited to. Khmer New Year is coming up April 14th. We celebrate New Years 3 times. Our New Year in the west, then Chinese New Year then Khmer New Year. You need a video of a Festival next time , like Pchum Ben or Water Festival. Oh, and on the MSG my family doesn't use it anymore. After I showed them all the studies on it and it's pretty much banned in my country, all Asian restaurants have signs on the doors they don't use it. I got them to use sea salt instead, it's not the same, but both are salts only one is good for you. Have a great weekend.
