it wasn't until i watched this video that i realised these things have 9 pads and not 6, now I see the price difference. that reverse cymbal swell I am totally stealing for my Alesis. congrats on all these views btw!

I appreciate this. My church is heading into this direction. Any way you could record a drum playthrough of You Make me Brave or other songs with the synth? That would help me out alot to see/hear it done.

I’ll try to get something complete together soon, but for now please check these two clips out! In this first video I am controlling the SPD-SX with the drumkat, so the sounds are all sounds I made for the SPD-SX. I only use the drumkat for logistical reasons (I like the SPD-SX on the right of my kit but it was easier to trigger the sounds with my left hand) You could totally do this with just the SPD-SX instagram.com/p/BjxOGeIghq3/?igshid=qlxdly3d1c7v Again, I am using the drumkat for the synth sounds here, but you could do something very similar with the SPD-SX. Great video Ryan, exactly what i needed! I'm new to this whole spd-sx and am currently playing for a small church in Adelaide. What i struggle with the most is finding the right sounds. Where did you get your sounds from? or any advice on where i should start?? Thanks!

Thank you so much for watching! I'm glad it was useful! Nearly all of the sounds I use are sounds I sampled myself. I mostly get them from electric drum modules or synth racks. I would suggest trying to get a hold of a electric drum module or even a decent synth (maybe you know a keyboard player or can rent one?), and record them with a interface or something similar, then drop them on the SPD-SX. They may require some editing before putting them on the SPD-SX so they start as soon as you hit them! I get asked this question a lot, and hope to get around to making a video tutorial on it sometime soon! Check out my Instagram! You mentioned that you get sounds off your Yamaha module. Are you talking about a Yamaha DTX? I too have a DTX kit and want to get a multipad to use, in part, for church but am having a hard time deciding whether to go Roland, Yamaha, or even Alesis. The thing that moves me away from the Yamaha is that I'm not on drum set at church -- someone else is. I do concert/auxiliary percussion. I need some more stuff without having a lot of room to add instruments to. Plus, I'm not a huge fan of hand percussion stuff. I also like the pad's flexibility. Thanks for the video!

Hi Joey, I made the synth samples myself, the sounds come from a Kurzweil K2500R, I basically record the chords, then edit them so they work with the SPD-SX! Thanks for watching!

It’s great. But at the same time. I wouldn’t use too much in church, even it’s a smaller band. I think that less is more, so I would just have a set setting and that it really. Let god take over the rest

Ryan, that sounds great. I had an Alesis SamplePad Pro that I'd had 3 different S/Ns of (all same model), and they all failed within weeks of owning them (cross-talk, pads either misfiring or firing late, or not working at all). It wasn't built with good quality components, I gather. This Roland seems much more solid, touring-quality.

Jake Lozano I actually recorded them into my computer using an interface then edited them in Audacity! I find it easier to edit sounds that way and I can also use the samples I make in Logic or Mainstage too!! Hope that helps!!

@@hyanrarrison88 Just got my SPD-SX yesterday, So two questions. When I'm listening to tracks from samples and hitting the pads or playing drums on the pads the volume is low even when I turn the volume all the way up using the phones jack. Also, when I use my iphone to do multiple sampling on the pads the music playing on my phone sounds low and distorted even when my levels from the back of the unit are in the middle as ur looking at the knob. Is this all normal? I also didn't download any software as it came with a disk because I now have a Macbook Pro with no disc slot. Do I need to download any software? I did check my current version and it's current according to Roland website I believe it's VERSION 1.08 as of May 2018. Any comments and thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Jake Lozano Have you experimented with the normalize function at all? Anytime I record a sample, I record it at a slightly lower volume than needed, then normalize it! Normalizing brings the sound up to its highest possible volume without clipping or distorting. You can do that on the SPDSX! I’d happily send you a quick rough video on how to do that! In my experience, it makes a big difference! I actually don’t use software with my SPDSX! I load all my sounds on via a USB flash drive, and organize them on the SPDSX, maybe that’s a longer way to do it, but it has worked fine so far!! I hope that helps!
