That is what I most tell young riders when I'm out on the hill. The stance can make it or break it. I have spent 30 years playing with stance from before the 4x4 base plate was introduced and that was what made it possible for me to explore different stances and find what works. I also have found that over time your needs and tastes can change so young riders don't be afraid to play with different stances. I ride hard boots more often than not now and it took me quite a while to really dial in my set-up.

A great way to start out with your width and stance angle is to do a yoga squat where you put your hands together like a prayer, then bend your knees until your elbows touch your knees. This is your balanced, center core position of your body .The space that your feet are apart is your distance that your bindings should be apart from center of foot to center of foot. Now take notice of the angle of your foots position and that is what you should set your binding angles at:)

Great advice!! I normally set my binding width & angle with my board on carpet. I strap in and squat down and do a couple jumps to see how comfortable everything is all while the carpet protects your board.

Great advices! Everything makes sense to me. For statistics, I am 184 cm tall, stance 56 cm, 12/-12 deg on a true twin tip 159 cm long traditional camber board. I agree with the concept that knees should bend along the direction of feet.

I always go for the smallest stands you can have on the board so you have max length on each side from the bindings to the nose of the board. makes it easier for riding switch and regular in powder too.

road for a long time as 15 -15, the last few years I've been at 17 -13. on twin powder boards. i love the extra power going forward in carves but hardly notice the difference when switch. Gotta Love some toe to toe. the feeling of gravity shift hoping from toe to toe never gets old.

Awesome explanation 👏, I've been riding over 15 years and tell you what, even tho it's so convincing to try this myself, i just dont have the time to change them all up, i need to shred. Update: come to think of it🤔 maybe that's why i haven't been able to progress into 360's and flips yet.

Good shit man 🤙🏼 I just subbed and loving your content! Great tips on all aspects of shredding the gnar. I'm an older boarder who just got vacknin after 5 yrs off. Way too long but loving it. Getting used to a new board with a camber rocker profile. Just been all camber in the past. Not much difference. Anyhoo, ill be looking for more videos 🤙🏼✌🏼 Stance: I'm 5'10" 180lbs 24" +15/-15

Also different boot size, brand, binding combination may also affect the actual stance angle, I find that when I pair my Burton size 8 boots with Burton size M binding(which my boot is on the lower end size that fit the binding) , the toe cap tend to push my angle about 2 degree inward both foot when straping on. But this thing doesn't happen when I ride with Flow size M binding( which my boots is on the upper end that fits the binding)

Great video. Super informative. I know you have a video about riding switch but do you have any advice for doing tricks the opposite way you’re used to. For example my nose butter tricks are way better than my tail butters. Also way better at spinning right (frontside regular and switch backside). I’ve been practicing them and they’re really difficult to progress.

I'm at 24/27 in the front and either -3/0 in the back. That's my carving setup. Most hardcore carvers (in Japan esp) have a double positive setup (both facing front).

I used to run a variety of stances depending on the terrain or board I was riding. Used to range from a directional duck stance to a full posi posi stance. I'm in my mid 50s now and a number of knee issues caused by mountain bike and football injuries mean I now only ride posi posi. So in a way I've gone back to riding how I did in the early 90s when really we were all posi posi to be honest. So my switch riding is now gone really but to be honest ripping it forwards only was how I started back in the day so I've come full circle.

Just came across your channel today and I’m already hooked !!! Subscribed and hit that bell too lol. My question may be kinda dumb but if you got a directional board can you still set it up as a twin by shifting everything forward or is this a bad idea ? Also do you have videos on camber vs rocker etc. ? Looking to get a more flexy board instead of traditional. Any recommendations ?

Best stance for aggressive carving at high speeds? For the past two seasons or so I've been 9 (back) 12 (front), set back with wider stance (front foot in the normal, balanced spot, back foot almost all the way back--second hole to last). I'm 5'10", 215....just wondering if anyone else has recs on this type of stance for the purpose mentioned. So far this has worked well for me, but I'm willing to experiment. Thanks!

Can I change the binding stance when board is wet? Would it rust the hole for where the screws go? Cuz it is a bitch trying to dry the water in the holes while on the mountain. Also for my stance width. I find myself most comfortable with 18.70 to 18.75 inches, but no matter what I just cannot get my binding to this length unless I do a setback. Meaning I move 5mm (.20 inches) of my front binding closer to center. Trust me that 5mm saved my knees. I duno why. But I use a true twin board. Duno if just 5mm set back on true twin board will be able to take advantage of the board. I'm 5'3 tall using a 142cm true twin board with a union force binding. Will bigger board have different length in space between the screws on the board? Cuz I really want to have twin board and 18.75 stance :(

Depends on your skill level and riding style. Me personally needed quite a while to adjust from a forward stance to a neutral duck stance. I would suggest that you slowly reduce step by step until you hit neutral stance. However I prefer a slight forward stance like 15/12 as I did pure carving before

No it's not normal. Don't worry about it too much tho. Just dedicate a foot for skating, and then practice both goofy and regular once you strap in. Once your more comfortable on your switch riding you could even mess around with what foot you skate with.
