YES!!! This is spot on; I think it would surprise everyone how many professional producers glaze over de-noising, mouth-noises, declicking and gating! It becomes extremely difficult (still do-able loosely) to manage these upstream in mastering.

The best vocal tutorial on youtube. You are far better than me but i was surprised that i actually adapted this same workflow over the years. But i really wish i could have known this a decade ago, when i had no clue what i was doing. I am really glad that this channel exists. i understand that its probably more for intermediate producers but thats exactly what youtube needs. Not another channel trying to explain music theory for beginners ^^ But the way you teach and how you edit your videos is just so good. wishing you lots of success!

Why reaper is good is that you can cut the audio to clips and add effects to individual cuts without affecting the rest of the entire track. Item processing is what it’s called . This is in case of sibilance and correction eq

Lady, I just have to thank you: For masterfully schooling me on so many relevant topics to music production. I find your content more than educational: It truly inspires. You personally make stuff interesting, whatever the topic -- even areas I dislike or tend to avoid, like vocals. I wonder if you might ever or possibly have ever done an episode on microtonality: the various, imperfect options available, their painful implementation, and choosing the best of the assorted compromises. If I might digress a moment: one would think that in the Computer Age microtonality would have been perfectly implemented and integrated in ANY digital audio workstation. Yet we have hitherto only known a litany of failures and part of the problem can be attributed to the decimal system of numeration that serves as the numeric foundation underlying the functionality of microtonality in DAWs. Is it ignorance of the fundamental NEED for rational and not decimal arithmetic, or modern day ignorance of what fractions and ratios are in the digital age where decimal is king, lack of programmers who possess a working knowledge of the rudiments of music, or something else? Decimal proves INAPPROPRIATE for usage as regards musical pitch and tuning and microtonality. The perfect fourth, for example, is 4:3 or 4/3. This does not equate to 1.33333333 in the same manner as 1/3 is not .3333333 given that one never can get 1 from 3 decimal .3333333: 1/3 + 1/3 + 1/3 = 1 YET .33333 + .33333 + .33333 = .99999999 and therefore NEVER EQUATES TO 1 no matter how great or small the granularity of numeric precision. The inequality, divergence and error only compounds with each arithmetic function applied. Nature does not count like humans do nor even like machines do, and patently ignores and seemingly ridicules our effete and imperfect mathematics, which at best is only a representational system that despite a potential perfection it has never known can only describe and never equate to the actual reality of nature, or music and its elements. I had two choices in terms of programming languages to use in writing my computational notebooks, given that despite the apparent plethora of choices *ONLY TWO* had rational variable types and could guarantee that no floating point arithmetic or discrete decimal conversion would be done to my musical tuning ratios / fractions. Julia or the Wolfram Language / Mathematica. I chose Wolfram, despite Julia being open sourced, because of the robust functionality and maturity of Wolfram Language. My github: www.github.com/froeberger F.

Nice thing you can do with AI voice is using it for harmony (if you don't have real harmony). You just create your harmony using melodyne (or any equivalent) and then you use that pitched voice with a different voice model, that way you don't have the formant/pitching effect you usually get with "fake" harmony. It can get even better if you can train a model with the singer you work with (or your own voice if you're the singer) :)
@Alice-Efe
@Alice-Efe 4 ай бұрын
I hope they will have "harmonize" option in the future. So we can get different harmonies of a single take. Also maybe simple option to adjust the melodies like a MIDI. That would be super cool as well.

An odd question (that I'm sure you're too busy for): In this example you seem to be processing the vocal track almost as though it's an instrument (optimizing for a "perfect" sound), how would you handle a kind of "dirty" vocal where you want the imperfections to be present for a kind of emotional expression? The example I'd give would be Ben Harper's (live) version of Sexual Healing.
@Alice-Efe
@Alice-Efe 4 ай бұрын
No worries! It depends on the purpose. If I need it to be more dynamic like a live audio, I would go for gentle vocal riding with gentle compression and avoid maximizing all together. If I want something more like "techno"vocals then I would double down on saturation/distortion with extra creative FX. If I want it to keep it natural; I would probably avoid too much corrective EQ to keep the room color or the imperfections with the recording. So you just need to figure out which step in the workflow you want to alter depending on the style that you are going for. Hope this clears out a little bit,
