Who needs an engine hoist, when you have a Hyster! Brings back memories of the one I used to drive at Boots The Chemist HQ in Nottingham..... 2.5l of Perkins Turbo under one's 'arris, used to call it the Shyster, as it used to stink like crap on 1st start.

If you make it to Emely Moor, enjoy the tractor pulls, and the rest of 'MAST'. If you get a spare moment, glance over at the tall TV transmission tower that I worked on in the early 80's. I got to go to the very top of that tower... Magic experience :) Not sure about now, but it used to be the tallest unsupported structure in Europe, that was back when it was completed in the early 70's after the earlier tower collapsed one bad winter, and many lost their TV signals for a while. Looking forward to the next update on the Leyland 285 :)

Sounds very nice. Glad to see you have a cover over those clutch plates. Back in the day, mid 80’s running my Mk2 escort on motoring news road rally championship rounds, some around your neck of the woods, my clutch did burst (no Micky mouse kit it was the mutt’s nuts) and shot a load of shrapnel through the alloy bell housing, through the body shell and it was sent flying around the footwell. Lucky only scratches and minor rips in the overalls but a bit of an experience! And a retirement waiting for the service car and trailer. Could have been worse I remember it was a balmy midsummer night not a grotty wet January in the sleet. I know you’re safety first so the captive shield on the gearbox input shaft was a nice touch. Good luck with your motor sport adventures, the memories are golf dust when your times almost at an end. I loved every minute with a passion, including every night in the workshop, either mine or a mates. All motor sports are great sport, great competitors, no needle, no aggro and real comrades who will pitch in no matter what and always be helpful.

Nice job, Oliver. Unloaded clutches suck to install, as you said, but you made it look pretty easy. Hope you do well at Emley Moor. Never seen it but have heard about it in the past. Hopefully you can get some video of the event. Good luck! Funny, you have the same kind of "time off" I used to have before I retired 😁. By the way, 👍👍 on the shop exhaust fan. Thanks for letting us watch. Cheers.

Looks a beast young man and sounds well. I have only ever driven a Leyland 344 tractor, but it dodn't look as good or sound as good as your tractor, it was on silly little wheels and skinny tyres and looked stupid. I noticed a Series 2A or 3 truck cab Land Rover, it would be interesting to see a video about that. Well, it would be to me!

This reminds me of changing engines in my cars over the decades. I've only done one in the last 30 odd years, when I upgraded the engine and gearbox in my 1982 Mitsubishi L300. I changed it from a 1.6 litre four speed column shift to a 2.0 litre five speed floor shift. The engine and gearbox came from a 1991 Mitsubishi L300. There were a few modifications needed, but it fitted nicely.

Glad to see you having some 'me' time. Back in the day, a chap on a neighbouring farm to where I worked had a 272 and a 2100 in his fleet, but never saw many of the 285s' in the area. Scary for me to think that what was once someone's prime workhorse is now so old that peeps just use them as the basis for some (much needed) fun at the local fair.

@usernamesreprise40685 күн бұрын
Hi Olly next time you have to mess around installing those clutch plates try using two lengths of 18 or 20 gauge binding wire, one either side turned around the tangs of the last plate and pulled backwards and tied off around the output shaft, that will allow you tons of room to fenoigle the imput shaft into the bush. And being such small gauge will easily be removable with the play the system uses before tightening down. I dont know how often the Motor will need to be put in and taken out in the future but a fine upstanding individual such as yourself ought to be able to fabricate a frame to fit snugly on the forklifts front end and using an arm equipped with a bolted on porta power with a purpose made head bracket to change input angles would make the whole job much less of a one man ball acher dont you think.

Thanks Ollie for the build up to your season. You have answered several questions I had about how different systems are integrated and some of the nice bits you 've added to your mods. My last pull, was way back in '86 I think, so long ago time distorts the memory. (thinking about, it you weren't even born then were you). Glad to see some things don't change, even though they were sketchy back then. Hope you got the result you wanted out of the run, and as always look forward to the next video. Hope good luck isn't a bad charm , take care .
