What you've described is exactly what everyone said about the 997 Sport Classic when it came out. Lovely car, etc, but the value proposition simply doesn't stack up at all. Of course, the 997 SC has ended up being a real collector's car . . . and now sells for silly money. I assume the 992 SC will probably do the same thing? Personally, i get much more excited about the 992 S/T.

Yes and no I feel. The 992 has been produced in far greater numbers than the 997 (1250 Vs c.300 from memory?). Having been fortunate to experience both 997 and 992 Sport Classics, they're both special but I do feel the 997 is the more special car.

Hard to say on the values but if I had to guess I don’t think 992 SC will go as crazy high as the 997 SC. They only made 250 997’s but are making 1250 992’s The extra 1000 cars supplied should keep values more sensible

Honestly I feel the 997 sport classic is only hyped because of the rarity compared to modern Porsche limited editions. Apart from the ducktail and Fuchs Felgen it was just a standard 997 with all options

Regarding the 992 sport classic: Good on people that can get it, but the ideal 992 sport classic would be a 992 gt3 touring manual with the sport classic‘s ducktail (and rear seat retrofit if you want that)

The new S/T may be the sweet spot in the lineup. I hope you get the opportunity to drive that model.

Just stop this "sweet spot" nonsense, already... Everything "in the middle" became "sweet spot". The other one is OEM+. 🤦🏻‍♂️ Either something is OEM or it is not.

@@tomasz899lol you good? Who hurt you? I get the sweet spot issue however the OP did use it correctly in questioning if the new product is a good middle ground. However sweet spot is quite subjective. OEM+ however is a correct distinction of products added to a vehicle that are offered by the OEM but not originally a part of the car. Like taking a standard Golf and putting a GTI or R component on it. All of it is OEM parts but the upfitting of a standard car with higher trim parts IS OEM+.

@@nolanmackey4175 But then it is not a standard Golf anymore. It is modified. And people use this often for aftermarket suspension, wheels, other bits and bobs. You are standard or you are not. OEM+ is just stupid term unless your golf could have exactly the same part as an option from factory. Sweet spot is very subjective. Probably thats why it annoys me. Sweet spot to what? 911 range? GT product range? What about GT3 Touring? It is much cheaper and 90% the same car. How you measure this "sweet spot". By what criteria? It is just moonshine talk...

​@@tomasz899 Sweet spot is whatever you want it to be. Personally for me this Sports Classic 911 without the decals would be my sweet spot. However for some people it might be a GT3 touring but it is subjective so I think you are looking way too deeply into this.

I agree, The looks of It are lovely - not to say you couldn't get near it elsewhere in the 911 line up. But as an out the showroom example its almost perfect.

Saw that you dropped into the Madding Cafe at Whipley Manor Farm in Palmers Cross just south of Guildford. We use Taurus Wines situated there for all our supplies so it was easy to recognise when you pulled in from the A281. 😊

Agree that it is one of the most beautiful 911's... saw a similar spec in Chicago on Sunday and it's absolutely captivating! And that was even with a F1 GTR in Gulf livery nearby 😉

...and the GTS arguably sounds better when you wind it out. Perhaps you just need a 992 GT3 Touring instead.. slightly quieter, less nervous, ever so slightly softer.. cheaper.. Just a thought.. Great STG production as ever!!

The GT3 Touring is mechanically identical to the winged car.

@@jake4030 It is mechanically but there are some subtle difference.. The aero has been slightly adapted at the front to compensate for the lack of that rear wing, plus the camber is slightly less aggressive which helps to reduce the amount of bump steer and.. the tires are different and have a little bit more sidewall flex.

Both great cars - But sometimes you don’t get the chance to choose. It’s up to the OPC to decide what your buying ! But you got PTS and chose an awesome colour ! ❤

The SC and GT3 are different beasts, and you just need both! However, all 1250 are allocated so both you and I have buckleys of getting one new. The ST will be a much better machine, but that too is fully allocated at 1963. For info to others. You can easily change the seat inserts (I did mine in tartan), and the ducktail is available from DB Carbon in DE. So yes a GTS is the way to go on a budget.

I know you and many other KZfaqrs are obsessed with manual gearboxes, but I still believe that pdk is the way to go on cars with this level of performance. I'm fortunate enough to have experience with both my 992GT3 Touring and a 992Turbo S and they both suit the pdk perfectly IMO. For normal road use the auto setting is fine and if you want 'involvement' a quick flick to manual and the paddle shifts will give you all the fun you need playing with the engine whilst concentrating on steering and braking inputs. Left foot braking is fun too. On track, even the great Richard Attwood says that you won't get a better set up than pdk in SportPlus mode. So, no, I won't be interested in a Sport Classic, with it's detuned engine and two wheel drive, a job the Turbo S does much better IMO. The Touring does a different job altogether as Sam says, there's nothing much out there with an engine sound like that one...

All the modern Sport classic cars are special. The targa is the one I love the most, having had one and completed 8000 miles in one. With every 911 it is about how it makes you feel and how special it is when you look back at it. The other point is about watching carefully the values, when to buy and when to sell. Porsche is now producing so many "special editions" which are collectable its a tough decision if you have the funds or finance options to suit. However just as the 911R was the ultimate a few years back and the 911ST is about to be the latest super special car. Maybe your ultimate Sam would be a 911 ST Speedster. Swan song for the 992?? 992.2 not far away.... Current Porsche bargain the first Caymen GT4. Great time to buy that car which surely will return to classic status soon.

Fun video Sam, thank you. Perhaps look into a classic 911? One which is ulez compliant. Just 'an oldie but goldie' for say a year. Inspired by a well-used aircooled I came across recently in my hometown. Great roar and driven like it is supposed to! Alternatively, slate grey restomodded 911 Carrera Classic at Forza Line in Coventry, nice! 115K £ though :-)

I’d have done it in Gulf Blue with that interior. With orange brake calipers. But honestly, the 911T spec is more than enough for any road car.

Does the Sports Classic come with two functioning driveshafts? If so, I think I can see what it offers over the GT3.

It might benefit you to stop positioning your hands at 10-2 and move to 9-3. Better leverage for when the rear steps out and quick correction is needed. Also, if you crash and deploy the airbags you are less prone to punching yourself in the face. Another great video Sam!

It took a bit of getting used to but 3&9 feels natural to me now. Also, I don't wrap my thumbs inside the wheel; I don't want them snapped off by the airbag either.

I had a Porsche factory driver tell me 3&9. He stated that Porsche designs the steering wheels for one’s thumbs to lock in at those positions

When I learnt to drive *40yrs ago, You were taught the “quarter to three” positioning. “Ten to Two” was NOT a thing. Now that we have more inconsiderate and less educated drivers on the roads the airbag has replaced driver intelligence. If you use the “quarter to three” position in a car with airbag(s) on the steering wheel; you stand the slightly higher chance of performing a dissection of your hands known as “de-gloving” if the airbag is deployed. This means that you can in the millionth of a second the airbag inflates in peel the skin, tendons from your hand. So smashing your face and breaking your hands against your face, I think, is better than NEVER being able to eat or play or write, etc… Your choice. Thank for reading.

You can spec a GT3 to the same spec as the sport classic. I’ve seen actually a GT3 Touring on sale with heritage design wooden interior. The Porsche Sonderwunsch (Special Request) will do anything you want

And with a GTS you could get a sunroof on a GTS or a targa GTS with heritage interior. But heritage edition interior removes ventilated seats. I like that the ccrnter stripe is painted on. Porsche should offer painted stripes on the GT3.

IMO, the best manual 911 'turbo' for road use is not the GTS but the T. GBP120-130K fully optioned, depending on whether you choose PTS. The only downside for me is that you can only have a black interior, though for most people this would not seem to be an issue, as that's what most people choose. Why the T over the GTS? IMO, the T has more than enough power for the road, and the smaller turbos are essentially always on boost and deliver a more linear response. The T is also cheaper, although the whole 911 range is now rather expensive, especially when compared with the Boxster/Cayman range. As always, YMMV.

I like my BoxEngine served with a manual clog, there is no such thing as a redundant left leg even in the London traffic, nothing beats analog Porsche 911 and the classic looks like a modern incarnation of classic Porsche 911.

15:58 Wrong you cannot get any of the options you mentioned on the GTS models. However, the heritage interior is available for the rest of the range as a very pricey option. The Sport Classic wheels cannot be specced on any other 911, as well as that colour.

Great conclusion. I'm glad the collectors are out there that will spend the $$$ on special edition cars but being one that loves to drive what they own, the concept is lost on me. Great video like always.

Wow, when I first saw the list price on the SC, I thought that there would be no way that would be worth it considering what other options you have with all the different 911s. But honestly, it's beautiful in that color, the exterior and interior set up is spectacular, you get so much torque, and the rear wheel drive, 7 speeds, and mechanical changes are huge. However, I don't think anything has caught my attention quite as much as the 911 S/T. I believe that will be the ultimate 911 variation for road use. Though it may not quite be the best daily driver considering the lightweight flywheel and the challenging clutch. Nevertheless, that's the one I'm desperate to hear about with the first test drives. The GT3RS is absurd in it's capabilities, but I don't think that would be great as a daily, and that wing is just too outrageous despite the downforce it provides. Can't roll up to the supermarket with that without looking like a bit of a child. However, if you could get the duck tail on the S/T, that would be my ultimate 911

Unfortunately you can’t spec the 5 spoke wheels or the heritage interior on a GTS…. that was my ideal spec, I had to compromise on mine. You’d have to do that on a C2S - and save even MORE money!

997SC was my fav 997 and one of my fav 911's. Is the 992SC a limited numbers car like the 997SC was? That colour.... Saw one in Ibiza 2 weeks ago, it was a bit anonymous but the minute I noticed that SC colour, well my phone was out.

FYI, @ 15:15 you mention that the 911 Turbo Classic is the only turbo one can get in a manual transmission. What about both the 911 GTS & 911 T that are also turbos & one can get them in a manual 7 speed ⚙️📦 ?

The GTS is always going to be the sweet spot in the 911 lineup, since it’s kind of conceived with that specific goal in mind. Sport classic will appreciate but you need to be pretty well off and connected to get one in the first place.

Nobody is looking at this car as a practical daily drive. Every single person who will eventually get one of these will be a collector. And unfortunately you will rarely see done on the road. Having said that I saw two at my local Porsche dealer BBQ on Friday. One drove in and one in showroom.

Wonderful video. Always enjoy your knowledge and enthusiasm. However, at 70 years old and having owned a number of “fun” cars, I have lost interest in the differences between Porsche models. I’m likely a minority on this channel but I’ll continue watching for the entertainment value.

I'd have one in a heartbeat, although saying that I'd have it alongside a GT3 and a Turbo s 😂. GT3 as a Sunday morning coffee blast or Road trip car, Turbo S as the daily and the Sport Classic as the special occasion/car meet car. If I could only have 1 it would be the GT3 and if I could have 2 it would be that and the Turbo S but if I was a collector being speculative you have to go sport classic. So in short in truly Porsche fashion they've made a 911 for every occasion so we'll played Porsche.

Following your channel since the Carrera T, you should get a 991 GT3 Touring and drive it for a million miles, which is exactly what I’m going to do. Approaching 50k km so far, still a way to go 😅

… and ECU tune the GTS and maybe change the exhaust and then you have similar power to the Sport Classic. But, if it is a daily you are looking for, 4wd and DCT are awfully convenient.

0:51, latest Porsche 911, they all look 95% similar. I am glad Porsche still offers manual, but I will never say Porsche 911's are unique beautiful cars.

I like Sam, and whilst I've watched since the 4C days, I've set a counter for every time he says "whilst" and just click off the video by the tenth time and whilst it may seem like I'd get further, I barely reach the mid-point, and whilst this may seem like a problem, I keep clicking on the next one whilst I eat my lunch
