When I had my Westie Milo, he had ear infections frequently. We adopted him when he was 7 from someone who decided she did not want a dog anymore. When we picked him up she did not have any vet records, she explained she groomed him often because he loved to roll around in smelly stuff, but she never took him to the vet. We had him for less than 24 hours and I knew he had an ear infection by the smell. We took him to our regular vet, she took one look in his ears and was shocked. Not only did he have an infection, but he had cysts and scar tissue from years of untreated infection. From all of this he was almost completely deaf! His previous owner also said he was not very intelligent. The issue of course was he could not hear due to her neglect! Once he was with us he would get an infection maybe twice a year, but with medicine it would clear up right away. I would also clean his ears frequently. His vet said if his ears were treated by his previous owner he most likely would not have had chronic ear problems. Thank you for all of the work you put into this channel!

If my Mom was still alive to see this, she would be so proud of how you take care of Sami, just like my mom did with her westie! To me it was like going back 30 plus years to see the same reactions Sami has with ear infections .

My Westie had a double ear infection. Our trip to the emergency vet during pandemic (while I waited in the car) cost several times what you paid. They cleaned his ears and applied medication which was a one time application. He got better quickly. Sami tried to leave when the medication came out, but he knows it’s to help him. He’s a very nice pup.

Growing up, our old scottie got a foxtail lodged in his ear. With proper treatment from the vet his ear was fine. He was also prone to infections, but my parents made sure to visit the vet. Old Mac was with us for almost 17 years. Your video helps others understand their vibes. My husband and I are married 40 years, and our first baby was a westie. He got an ear infection or two. He was with us for almost 15 years. We’ve shared our homes with 7 pups over the years. We’ve always been a forever home. We also have a son. Babies are also prone to ear infections. With treatment they will clear up. Being a conscientious mom, like you, is important. Sami will be fine. Not that it isn’t scary. And for some reason we always blame ourselves. It’s just a mom thing, and it never goes away. But you got him the care he needed. You are a very good mom. The anti-inflammatory will help the pain. He’s tolerating having his ears cleaned and medication well, so he is no doubt feeling better. Our young westie isn’t quite a year old now. A couple of months ago, he was running up a high drift to survey his domain, and took a tumble. He limped home, and limped all night into the next morning. A vet visit and ex-rays revealed that it was a sprain (not broken). Anti inflammatories give him loose stools, so we had to also use a prescription probiotic on his morning meal. He’s fine now. I’m putting all this in the comments to help make you feel better. You’re a great mom to Sami. Give Sami some love from me.

Poor Sami I hope he feels better soon! My Dog Missy had a bad ear infection we took her to the Vet and they gave antibotics to treat it. Ear infections are very painful for dogs. Sami get well soon.

Consider switching Sami to a raw diet. When we first got our miniature schnauzer puppy last year, he had an ear infection, our local vet even predicted that he would have chronic ear infection. I switched his diet from kibble to raw when he was 4 months old, he still had ear infection periodically during the first two months, after that he never had ear infection again and he is over a year old now.

Get well sami.❤ I got my westie about a year and 3 months he is now 8 years old. He can get a very easy ear infection so I need to check his ears very frequently and I check his skin's color to see has changed from regular pink or have any smell. And I cleaned it with a solution that I by from the Veterinarian when he get his bath.

So upsetting when your baby isn't feeling well! I have had several experiences same situation, but always worked for me was mixing half water half apple cider vinegar or white vinegar in a small squeeze tube shake it well & apply liberally to both ears. About two to three times a day for four days the infection will clear up, any sign of your dog shaking head like that always means there's a problem with their ears. So happy hes ok ❤

Scooter, our westiepoo, gets chronic ear infections. We regularly clean his ears and have the hair plucked from the inside of his ears about every two weeks. The hair traps moisture in the ear. Hope Sami feels better! ❤

My beautiful Mattie, a Maltese with that same gorgeous white coat, also had skin allergies. She later developed recurring ear infections as well. On my mother’s brilliant advice, I began trimming the fur both inside and outside the ear extremely short every weekend. I called it her Audrey Hepburn hairstyle. I don’t know why exactly that worked, but it did. She stopped getting the ear infections altogether. Thank you for your videos, they are absolutely lovely.

I just would like to thank you for these videos... My Westie just got over an eye infection. She never indicated any problems, but had discharge from her eyes. I called the vet and got an ointment and it cured her in a few days. I am a new dog owner, relatively (4 years), but I would have thought "it'll sort itself out". However, after watching your videos and seeing how good Sami is, I asked myself, "why let her suffer?"... Anyway, thank you so much for your content and best wishes to you and Sami!

Sami is such a good and brave boy getting tested and his treatment for his ear infection 👏🏻 My westie unfortunately gets them often because of his allergies (mostly yeast infections) but he doesn’t want to understand all the not so fun stuff is for his wellbeing so I’m very happy for you Sami trusts you this much to make him better. My Westie grandson, Zeus, has been facing an ear infection for three weeks now. He’s much better with the antibiotics, but for him it’s something recurrent. He suffers from allergies mostly related to food. Whenever he eats something that he’s allergic to, he gets really sick. I hope Sami gets better soon and is ready for all his adventures. 🐾❤️🐾❤️

Thank you, it's very helpful to me to know how other Westies show their discomfort indicating an infected ear. Recently, my 9-month-old appeared to have an infection -- ear back, scratching, head-shaking.but I couldn't smell anything and she has bright pink ears so that didn't help me. But showing Sami's red ears and the swollenness helped me. My Maisie's indications seemed to be gone within 24 hours, thankfully. Had a similar problem with my Westie Very important to keep ears dry so it does not occur again If you heard crinkling you might want to check for Westie lung IPF Dogs don’t show when they have pain Remember keep his ears dry and clean

Mine hasn't had an ear infection but it's definitely scary when they don't feel good. I HATE when I can't make her pain go away. It's horrible. I couldn't imagine what it'd feel like if I had a human kid. Lol.

Our Westie had an ear infection last summer. Glad you didn't do diy remedy like we did - we learned the hard way to go to the vet when we see the dark pink in his ear - fortunately our Westie didn't lose his hearing.

Z had an ear infection last summer; crying when she shook her head, massaging her ear seemed to help a bit until we could get her to the vet for a check up and meds. With her first ear infection several years ago, her ear was all droopy and the inside was crusty Get well soon, Sammy!😢

Hi, currently nursing an ear infection with my Westie. Antibiotic drops given have not done anything. Currently waiting for a second lot of results from vets and in the meantime I have solution with steroid in it to use twice a week. Bill so far £300.00.
