I really appreciate your intuition and instincts of interpreting the 2 Pink Floyd songs I've watched you react to. Many people much older and more experienced than you don't grasp the concepts as quickly as you do. I believe that Comfortably Numb was inspired by the experience that Roger Waters of the band had before a concert, when he became very ill and was doubled over backstage in pain, with hepatitis, I think. They called in on on-call doctor, who injected him with a strong muscle relaxant and analgesic to allow him to go onstage, but he felt very zoned out and could barely feel or control his hands, reminding him of how he felt as a child when he had a high fever. In the second verse, he then generalizes that story to a more global concept, of how all of the strong dreams and passions that we may hold for our future lives when we're young are gradually forgotten, as we settle for 'good-enough', rather than the 'exceptional' lives we'd hoped for. Being just comfortably numb, and falling short of our potential. Keep it up! I also would strongly recommend watching the Pulse Concert live version of this, for one of the best guitar solos of all time, and an amazing visual experience (don't look away).

You are correct about the story line concerning the lyrics. It happened before the Philadelphia show during the " IN THE FLESH TOUR ( ANIMALS ALBUM ) back in '77. I saw Floyd in Cleveland June 25th 1977 (same tour )

@@MDreeezy The Wall is a concept album (double album), and this song tells a specific story, it's like reading one chapter in a book. You need to hear the whole thing to really understand what's going on.
@darthraiden8740
@darthraiden8740 5 ай бұрын
@@MDreeezy No, you are right, it is definitely deeper. This is the final block being placed in The Wall. Obviously, that may not make much sense b/c you don't have the context of the rest of the album, but if you do listen to the album in full, do it on your own terms. Most people react to the full thing on KZfaq, but I think you may regret it. If you want to remember how you felt the first time, maybe record yourself, but for your own good, don't listen with the pressure of an audience. I mean for The Wall, it doesn't matter as much imo because it isn't the greatest of the Pink Floyd concept albums, but for others I highly recommend it.
@davehadley3567

My take? I’m impressed by your interpretation. Pink Floyd is a very very deep rabbit hole and you are near the beginning of your journey, PF are known for their long intro’s lyrics that make you think and astonishingly skilful musical talents. The feelings you experience while listening is exactly what they wanted you to feel, each track leaves you in exactly the right place to carry on to the next track. Studio versions are equally as good as live versions the only difference is live versions develop over time as the musicians add a bit here and there while studio versions remain exactly the same as the day they were laid down.

When you say "I got it, I got it" at 7:09, realize that there are many thousands of others who at some point in their lives had that same Eureka moment when listening to Comfortably Numb. When the words "The child is grown, the dream is gone" penetrate, it's like a knife going in, and the feeling is only reinforced by the long and haunting outro. Most reactors don't seem to pick up on the significance of these lyrics at all, the fact that you did at age 20 is pretty amazing. If you revisit these lyrics in twenty years, or forty years, you will find them infinitely more meaningful.

It is a concept album and really is meant to listen to in order. Anything else is like picking chapter out of a book and then trying to make sense of it. And then find half the plot was spoiled when you do finally get to the rest of it. There is a movie. We seen the concert just months after the album release. Extremely large Orchestra equally large mixed choir and boys choir. Each with their own conductor. Then there were the construction workers that built the extremely large wall between the stage and the audience. The concert required hundreds of individuals to pull off. 🤠🏞️🐂

the demo was origionall called the doctor, it`s a drug overdose he`s experiencing and his mind wonders back to his childhood, he was ill once and this feels the same, the pin prick is the doctor shooting adrenalin into his system to bring him round for the show, as the character is pink, a rock star who builds an emotional wall around himself. all the pain in his life all those things are bricks in the wall, listen to the full album and there was a film adaptation by the same name this is 1979-80 long before covid.

As many others have said, you are very thoughtful and insightful for a young man. You are doing a great job! And also to expand on what others have said, the wall is a concept album. It is a story from beginning to end. Each song is like one chapter in a book, so just as it would be confusing to open a book and start reading in the middle, the same can be said for the wall. It will make more sense to listen beginning to end or to watch the movie. It is basically the story of the life of a boy named "Pink" who slowly goes crazy as each small trauma of his life is a brick in the wall that he builds that separates him from the world and leads him to withdraw into his own mind even as he becomes a rock star, disconnecting him from those around him and numbing him to his own feelings. It's a trip!

Some may suggest the live versions. I've been listening to Floyd for almost 50 yrs...AND I PREFER their recorded versions by far. Now that you have headphones you will hear nuances that are missed in the lives. WHEN SOMEONE is comfortably numb they are INDEED detached...just existing. Happy with being complacent. There is an element of drugs and for the BEST reference to the concepts of this PHENOMENAL double album I strongly suggest the MOVIE. edit: you have FANTASTIC insight and YES! You got it! Please seriously consider watching the Pink Floyd movie (with your headphones on ) The album is played in its entirety during that film. GREAT REACTION and pause away! at least you speak with some sense and ACTUALLY say something
