I always imagine the the two beeping sounds in Say You Will are beeps from a life support machine. Knowing his mom died from complications during surgery, and the fact the song has a long outro, it’s just the feeling of waiting to see if she will survive. Beautiful art.

Paranoid is one of my favorite Kanye songs ever. In the beginning I'm not 100% on what they were saying, but it sounds like when the song cuts on, Kanye is having a conversation with the engineer or just someone in the studio. And when they mentioned the word Paranoid, you can hear Kanye say "yeah that's good, paranoid", and then thats when he starts singing with the autotune. and thats why the guy laughs in the background. Me personally, from that, I got the feeling the song was a freestyle based on the conversation they were having. That's why the guy laughs in the back basically like "no way he's turning this into a song 😂". which I think makes the song like 100 times better. it takes so much talent to take a conversation or just like a random topic and then turn into a full competent song!

Excuse me this will be long winded but not enough Kanye fans realize his entire discography is a cohesive narrative but specifically from Pinocchio Story on 808s through Violent Crimes on Ye. On Pinocchio story Kanye sings about how he chased the American dream of being a superstar but now his mom is dead and his first fiancé Alexis Phifer left him in the same year and he feels hollow. “I just want to be a REAL boy” What’s the opposite of real? A Dark Twisted FANTASY On the intro Nicki Minaj in a fake British accent says “twisted FICTION sick addiction “ On the 3rd song Power Kanye says REALITY is catching up with me , taking my inner CHILD I’m fight for custody” and later “this would be a BEAUTIFUL DEATH jumping out the window letting everything go” So it’s the death of the “old Kanye” and All of the Lights begins the Fantasy he has of living in the celebrity world of flashing lights , getting in trouble, having a daughter and divorce with custody battles. So the album is him lost in that celebrity lifestyle and on last song Lost in the World it’s a poem he wrote to Kim before they got together and he feels lost in the world. So from there because he’s lost in the world and with “the old Kanye” now dead he creates an alter ego Yeezus which is an over the top egotistical, sex addicted maniac basically and by the song Blood on the Leaves you find out this sex addicted shell of the old Kanye became this way because of a failed relationship “we could’ve been somebody” On the last song Bound 2 gets with Kim and talks about wanting to marry her but still is speaking from the character of Yeezus with crude sexual language. The Life of Pablo’s theme is explained on the front cover , a picture of an IG model representing his addiction to attention seeking, sex, fame, ego and celebrity which is next to a picture of a family in front of a church at a wedding representing his desire to live a wholesome family life and follow the word of God and all over the cover it says “which one” because he’s still conflicted, that’s why the album switches between religious themes and love then very superficial things like money , fame and sex. The album opens with Ultralight Beam “a God DREAM” and after that there’s a bunch of songs about his addictions to the lifestyle until I Love Kanye , where he misses “the old Kanye” before the fantasy. On the last song Sampha sings “where is God in your night life” The conclusion of the thread of the Fantasy trying to be a “real boy” is on the album Ye. The album is supposed to express the reality of Kanye’s bipolar nature. The cover says “I hate being bipolar it’s awesome “ The first song I thought about KILLING You is about Kanye trying to metaphorically finally kill the other side of himself. In spoken word he says “most BEAUTIFUL thoughts are always beside the DARKEST” (My BEAUTIFUL DARK Twisted Fantasy) The 2nd to last song Ghost Town (Ghost-are DEAD) he wanted to kill the old version of himself, the end of the song repeats “I put my hand on a stove to see if I still bleed and nothing hurts anymore I feel kind of free” Meaning to become free Kanye couldn’t just kill the old version of himself because that is himself he had to accept the darkest sides of him self (put his hand on the stove) to feel free and like a kid again aka A REAL BOY like Pinocchio wanted to be.(Shake sings “once again I am child” The last song the closes the 5 album narrative is Violent Crimes. Ye raps about how he used to be a savage and a monster but now he has a daughter and has to leave that life/version of himself behind. The chorus says “REALITY is upon us colors dripping off” This lyric is a reference to one of Kanye’s favorite movies The Holy Mountain about a group of false prophets trying to find salvation on the Holy Mountain but at the end of the movie you find out the you’re watching a movie inside of a movie and nothing was real. Kanye used to play this movie on repeat during the making of Dark Twisted Fantasy on mute in the background and on the Yeezus tour he had a mountain on stage. Guess who closes the song , Nicki Minaj , and instead of fake British accent like on Dark Fantasy intro , this outro is a voice mail of her not performed in her real voice that she left for Ye in real life. Last note , the name Kanye means “only one” the name his mom gave him and a song he sings from his mom’s perspective speaking through Kanye to his daughter North. Ye is most used word in the Bible and refers to “you” or everyone. On the Yeezus tour Kanye said Yeezus meant Ye ez(is) Us. Only one refers to only Kanye(Ego) and Ye is you. Most beautiful thoughts are always inside/beside the darkest. Ye explained in an interview with Big Boi in Wyoming before the album that the album was called Ye because he was representing the different sides of humanity are all in 1, the good, the bad , the dark the beautiful etc Yeezus, Pablo and Ye is the identity trilogy because he lost himself in the Dark Twisted Fantasy of fame and addiction and the albums all together are the journey of finding himself again after feeling lost in a Fantasy/Pinocchio Story that he just wanted to be a real boy after his mom dies. Reality is upon us , colors dripping off.

Wow dude that's amazing. I am a new Kanye fan. Discovered him mid last year and absolutely fell in love with his music. I thought about some of theses things too, but never brought it all together in the meaning of a coherent story. I always thought about each project as it's own meaningful vision which they for sure are, but it's nice to think about them all being connected. What do you think is the overall story of JiK and Donda after Ye?
@juju-vl7oj
@juju-vl7oj 6 ай бұрын
@@mrcrap9911I am glad when someone new gets into his music , his discography is amazing. To be honest I was in a similar boat as you , where I saw some of the meaning but not all a cohesive story and I used to listen to a podcast called Watching the Throne, they did a deep dive on his entire discography and listening to them helped me crystallize in my mind the story. Jesus is King is like him waking up and discovering God again after waking up from the dream after “reality is upon us” on Violent Crimes. He had been lost in the life style, but that album starts more with him struggling to balance his new life as a Christian. For example on Follow God screaming at his dad, and Hands On dealing with not being accepted by the Christian community. Idk if there’s as much of a cohesive linear narrative on Jesus is King. But Donda on the other hand is often misunderstood as not being cohesive but it’s very cohesive (the original track list) It’s like a culmination of the entire journey from his mom dying to finding God. He starts the album in Jail and on the album he compared the idea of jail to spiritual jail, societal jail, the jail of growing up in the hood and wanting to break free of that life because of the pain caused in gang violence and literal jail. Fivio starts his verse -when I was in JAIL I was low key Lil Baby raps about losing friends to gang violence Baby Keem raps about making it out of the hood And Jesus Lord is a story culminating all that ending with a speech by Larry Hoover Jr about how his father in jail has hurt his family. Also a lot of references to how God brings life or makes one free, God Breathed We gon praise our way out the graveyard back to life. Life=Breath There’s a turning point on Remote Control where “God just grabbed my hand had a bigger plan” Heaven and Hell- God is Freedom, Hell is Jail (also a lost in the world reference, you’re my Heaven you’re my hell , you’re my freedom you’re my jail. The albums climax is Come to Life(God did Breathe) The last lyric God is still alive , so I’m free. (Started the album in jail) No Child Left Behind is like saying his mom never left him because he found her again through his connection with God.

I’m guessing it didn’t, summary, Jesus is King is waking up to what he felt was a Dream on Violent Crimes and now reality is upon us and he’s a born again Christian who wanted to spread the word on Jesus is King but the album conflict is in how he communicates being lost in translation. Ex screaming at his dad on Follow God and Christians not accepting him on Hands On. Donda is the culmination of the entire story from feeling like he was in a mental and societal prison, and how God makes one free and he used his features to tell the story of how God can save people living in the hood or around Gang violence or in Jail like Larry Hoover on Jesus Lord. The albums climax is Come to Life( call back to God Breathed , Breathe = Life The last lyrics are God is still alive so I’m free(call back to Jail) No Child Left Behind is him basically saying that his mom never left him and the journey back to connecting with her was through God.

Wish you would've told the story behind Pinocchio Story. How Beyonce basically told him he had to put it on the album cuz of how raw and real his feelings were and how the fans weren't even payin attention. Plus for context of his relationships and how so many artist show up on his songs as background and we don't even know it, especially goin into Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy.

Listening to this album with a good sub hits so different than with headphones. This and Graduation are hands down my favorite albums.

Great reaction! Actually the first half of the album has better music but the second half really has more introspective and reflective feel and is more sad. But i understand why anyone will like the first half more. Can't wait for TLOP reaction.

Wish they had done his albums in order. Hearing songs like Last Call where he talks about his mom and you can even hear her voice, and then Hey Mama add to the buildup of what this album is. Plus theres several times on the first 3 albums where he indirectly references his fiance.

Side note: Your editing skills are kinda wild, its like you edited the songs themselves down. The cuts of lines are seamless. If someone hadnt heard the album before, I wonder if they'd notice or not

definitely one of the most influential albums ever in hip hop changed the game completely especially in a time where ganster rap was still at the forefront (i.e. Graduation vs 50 Cent Curtis). made a lot of rappers today like Drake. my favorite song is welcome to heartbreak

Let's take a moment to give Kid Cudi his flowers for this one as well! Spectacular Album as a WHOLE! Ps. I totally appreciate both of you guys' commentary! Well done! I'd appreciate some of the major drops of the song to be played through, although I know you need to chop it up got monetary purposes.
