I have followed your channel for a few years. While I am a wildlife (small bird) photographer I still learnt so much from you and enjoyed your style of presentation...I also loved anything you did on overlanding. Now that you are including wildlife photography here on the channel it is just awesome and I look forward to seeing more of your work and picking up ideas and tips from you.

Looks great Nick! For birds with dark eyes (like puffins) adding a bit of exposure, saturation and noise reduction with a brush can add a nice glossy look to the eyes and make them pop.

I finally have the wildlife setup I've dreamed of since 1972 with my Z9 and the Nikkor Z 800 f/6.3 PF. It feels like cheating. The Topaz suite is my best friend as a wildlife photographer; I use it on almost every photo. I am intimidated by Photoshop, and I got dizzy watching all the stuff you were doing in there. I use PS for very limited and relatively easy things that I can't do as effectively in LRC. A lot of features from PS have been migrating to LRC, and I've been using more of the mask features, which really help. I know I should get over my PSphobia, and when I have more time in my life, I'll work on learning to use it more effectively. Great video though, and I'm glad you're discovering the joys of wildlife photography. I like doing landscapes too, but wildlife is my main bag.

Wildlife photography, specifically birds, was my early love in this hobby. I have found that my landscape photography skills, especially editing, really helps with wildlife. I would say that birds, anyway, still look best in golden hour. I've also found that they look best when shot at eye level. So, shooting waterfowl means lying shoreside on my belly. Birds in flight are best from a slightly elevated viewpoint so you don't just have sky in the background. I really look forward to more images and workflow tips from you!

Hey Nick, you've just confirmed my long held belief that a decent photographer can pretty much photograph any genre, landscape, wildlife, etc, etc. I actually think that having a varied skill set as a photographer can stop us getting into the doldrums and many of the skills are transferable! Mixing up photography like this keeps it fresh and more fun! I find myself going between landscapes, wildlife, musicians/people and also drone photos. I love warming up the subject a bit and creating those cool/warm contrasts. Sometimes I'll just paint on some warmth in LR but I'm going to try PS and your selection methods tonight. Thanks for taking us through your process, tremendous help.

Glad to see you doing wildlife photography! Stunning photos of the eagle. I do the same thing, combine landscape and wildlife (bird) photography. Keeps me busy the entire day. I've got the Sony 200-600, not as fast as your prime, but very sharp and fun to use. Denoising/sharpening software saves a lot of my photos taken with the (not BIF optimal) A7R III. Thank you for sharing this, very informative. You sure know how to use PS. Keep up the good work, Nick! 📸👍

Thanks--good comments and you have some great shots there (although I use a DxO/Topaz workflow, so noise is no longer an issue). Also, when people ask me about gear, I recommend a Micro Four Thirds system for virtually any genre, but particularly for wildlife/landscape use. My Lumix G9 with battery grip and Leica 100-400 (200-800mm EFL due to the 2X crop factor) together weigh about 2kg/4.4 lb and that lens is 17cm/6.75" long and 82mm/3.25" wide. It's tack-sharp (although that's not hugely important for most images, it's of course desirable for many wildlife shots) and has a minimum focusing distance of 1.3m/4.27' for an effective magnification of 0.5x, enabling "semi-macros" from a "safe" distance (let's not forget about very small wildlife)! Oh, and with 6.5 stops of dual IS, no tripod's needed, as it's very easy to hand-hold while waiting for the right moment (plus 20 fps "pre-burst" enables you to capture the decisive moment even after the fact). BtW, I'm also a drummer and Rogue is one of my "desert island" breweries.
