I vehemently condemn any form of discrimination or hatred directed towards Chinese individuals. I had the privilege of relocating and having the ability to share my story while many of my Chinese colleagues kept quiet about their mistreatment. workplace abuse has become normalized in various regions of China, including the highly developed city of Shanghai. While I acknowledge that my own racial background contributed to the mistreatment I encountered in my previous job, it is imperative to note that race alone did not serve as the sole motivating factor for such mistreatment. Part of mentioning that my HR is Chinese was to also highlight the normalization of abuse in Chinese workplaces.

The English school industry in Asia has countless stories like this. They insist on hiring foreigners to teach English but then treat them atrociously. I was in South Korea in 2015 and was also bullied out of my job because I have a disability so I understand your experience on a personal level. Finding yourself in this situation in a foreign country is terrifying, especially when your visa is tied to your job. It puts you in a really vulnerable position. I also witnessed evidence of racist attitudes as well and heard other teachers experiences with regards to contracts being manipulated and controlling and bullying behaviour from employers. Even the people who don't have any issues still admit the gig is a tough one due to the toxic work culture and they endure it mostly because they need the money, work experience etc...

No. Solve the root problem of why your people need to leave their countries for better opportunities. BW going with or without someone will not improve the situation for us if this happens again. The fact that her own embassy was useless highlights how they see her situation and exactly how much protection she would have if she were home. It also reflects their values that they bring with them to these countries. We get no respect as BP, and especially BW because in our home countries, we hate ourselves so much that we don't even protect each other. And I'm not about to argue this with anyone because our femicide rates, crime rates, education levels, living conditions, and overall corruption across the leadership of those countries would prove anyone trying to argue that our black home countries are safe, is full of it. Either we acknowledge the roots of our problems so we can progress, or her only options will remain taking the risk for a better life in another country, or going back home to the problems and life she left in the first place.

From experience, as a Chinese American woman who was raised by Chinese parents, I can state that these situations are the norm in that society. Chinese men are more often abusive because they can get away from it. This behavior happens because the society protects abusers and the system defends abusers and horrible people in general. It's why the suicide rate is so high in China, especially amongst women. The men in that country see their abusing others as a "basic right".

@@i-6820 Actually, getting accurate answers from people in China is like that. If you could get the person to meet up where nobody is listening and they feel safe, they would tell you the truth. Chinese society has been patriarchal for 5000 years, and that never changed even when the Communists took over. Men over there are probably not the kind of people that you want to hang around if you don't know them too well, because domestic abuse in China is rampant. Many of the women in that society also participate in the patriarchy for privileges, so you kind of are going to have to filter people very carefully if you go over there. Also, if you are a kindergarten teacher, I suggest that you go to the public schools instead. Private schools make it extra hard for abuse to be recognized, because the school owns the cameras and could cover up for their abusive teachers and parents.
@jessicatsao928 ай бұрын
@@sopluv149 I'm not siding with the abusers. I'm merely pointing out what it's like over there. I grew up partly in China, so I can speak from experience on the society over there. My Chinese parents also set the standard as well. What they do isn't right, and I agree with that. However, please keep in mind that this is not widely known in China until very recently, because Chinese people only got access to the Internet in the last two decades. Your Western sensibility probably will seem out of place there, just so you know. I agree, it's not a good thing, but changing it to exactly the Western way of behavior isn't right either. There are just as many problems in the West with abuse as well.

Asian men are notorious for being abusive to women, even in public. In addition, work places can be very toxic. What’s even worse is that being a foreigner means not getting the support that you need. They are very loyal to their own. That’s why they’re so successful in the west. They stick together. I’m not sure if this is race based, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it also played a factor. I am so sorry this has happened to you. I truly hope you start having better experiences abroad. I also hope you get the justice that you deserve. Edit: Notorious means in the eyes of the public. Does it mean that something is true bc it is notorious? No, it doesn’t. My first paragraph comes from reports that I’ve heard myself in Asian media, documentaries, and from Asian women. I’ve also seen plenty of videos of Asian men pounding on women in public. All this to say, every race of men has something that they are notoriously known for. It is what it is. No group is perfect, and we can’t shy away from mentioning potential problems in order to not hurt feelings.

I’m so sorry to hear about your experience there. I’m Southeast Asian and I once had cousins that went to teach English in China. It was for the experience and opportunity to travel. They weren’t treated very well either. They were discriminated on many levels because they don’t speak Chinese and their pay was also much lower than a Caucasia person. The district sees Caucasia as more experience just because they’re Caucasia. They’re judgmental, tunnel vision, and stereotypical people there. I’m not hating on any person of specific ethnic group, but these sort of abuses needs to stop. They need to respect the people they hire because they needed a person of experience to fill in that position. Nobody goes in to fill an application to be a punching bag. I don’t know. I am in Taiwan and have been for years, but just five months ago, a boss flew into a rage and threatened to fire me. So, I put in my resignation. Then she threatened to sue me for quitting. I put in an inquiry to the labor board about the situation, but that took a week to process. In that week she thought I was staying, she stood there and mocked and insulted me every day, screaming at me for not being “cheerful.” Then the labor board called her. She got in trouble for not giving me a contract. When I went to leave (finally 😅), she told me “I have a contract for you now.” No thanks. Bye-bye. I found another better job in three days. 😂

I'm so sorry this happened to you. This is why I (an American) never worked overseas after researching it and am even nervous about visiting lots of places. When you are a foreigner, you're in a vulnerable position to be abused, taken advantage of, falsely accused or imprisoned according to their laws, etc. There are ENDLESS stories online of people experiencing these exact things. This is sickening, you did NOT deserve it, and I really advise others to do your research and exercise extreme caution/avoid working overseas if able. Even in America, foreigners who come to work here are often abused and exploited due to their status. This happens so much

A lot of South Africans leave because of high unemployment rates and a plummeting economy. If opportunities were available a lot would stay. It's different in a third world country where you don't have as much opportunity available to you as in the west. So people go looking for greener pastures but it's not always that way.
