Myanmar: Karen minority demands protection in peace park

The Karen ethnic minority in Myanmar has been fighting for greater autonomy for 70 years.
One of the world's longest-running civil wars has displaced hundreds of thousands of people.
Now, community leaders say they are determined to be part of a peace-building process and have created a park to do just that.
Al Jazeera’s Florence Looi reports from Yangon.

There are over 10 Millions Karen people in Myanmar, like it or not. And we used to be the majority until Burmese did an ethnic cleansing. And by the way, British give us that name Karen and many don’t like it because they betrayed us. We are called “Kayaw.”

Because "your people" killed many Burmese since the 19th century. "Your people" worked for the British to colonize Burma. Once colonized "your people" worked for the British to suppress many Burmese independence movements. And once Brits were gone "your people" have been killing Burmese soldiers in a separatist movement. Have "your people" ever publicly apologized to the Burmese people what you did to them in the past two centuries?

Well "your people" fought for the British to colonize Burma in the 19th century. Karen and British Indians (of all faiths) also worked for the British to oppress and suppress many Burmese independence movements. Once the British were gone, Karens have been waging a separatist war killing many Burmese soldiers. You have to be naive to think the Burmese have forgotten and forgiven what Karen tribes did to them.
