I remember my brother gave me the money to buy SMB3 and we couldn't find it anywhere. I bought Super C instead. Then a couple weeks later he told me to get him something from his jacket and there it was. I don't know where he was able to find it. That had to be my favorite NES game ever. So many hours spent on it. Big shout out to my big bro, whose name is coincidentally also Mario btw.

I worked at Kay-Bee in 1990. I remember when that cartridge came out how impossible it was to keep in stock. We kept an actual waiting list, on paper and everything, with names and phone numbers. However, being an employee had its advantages and I wound up snagging one of the first copies. I couldn't say whether it was the error version, but chances are it was, just by the time frame. It may still be at my mom's house. I'll have to look for that one next time I visit.

@@rabble_rousdower not money laudnering but yes a scam. turns out the seller was friends of an auction house owner, and the buyer was the auction house itself... they then of course advertise how high the game sold so bring in all your old games to be auctioned. its basically trying to inflate the market becuase the auction house takes a large % of every sale.

It was January of 1990 I was 11 years old and, my friend called me up all excited saying his Dad scored a copy of SMB3 for his computer and hurry up get over so we can play. I was stoked because it was about a month until the game was released so I rushed over, we get the computer on and get the game going and it turned out to be a different version of the original Mario Bros game. We were so disappointed. We realized that his dad considered that game a number 3 of Mario Bros since his dad didn't know the difference between Mario Bros and Super Mario Bros games. At least my friend and I had about 3 weeks before M3 was out but it wasn't a bad wait but it felt like forever and when it was released, it was hard trying to find a copy since almost every store sold out but after my parents drove half the state it seems like until I finally got my game. I still play my original to this day, alot of great memories.

Hey Tyler! What a brilliant video! Its crazy to think you had such a valuable game in your hands. But I agree that the experience of playing super mario bros 3 was indeed very precious and if i was asked to not open Zelda Ocarina of time as a kid I would not have been able to do it. It's the first Zelda game i played and i still love it and have so many fond memories of getting stuck 😂 and completing areas with the help of my cousin who semeed to know everything about video games! He was a gaming guru! :)

This is one of the best videos ever posted on KZfaq , I was 12 when this game launched It is my favorite game always has been It was a big sacrifice for my Mom to get me this game , I remember the lines and I had this version, and I kept all my boxes and paperwork I lost the boxes about 12 years ago when my mom passed away and her Husbands family threw stuff out that I had not gotten from a closet at her place it makes me sick to think about

I played this game so much when I was a kid I found two landscape versions when fighting bowser: One, with a more shallow ground and two, the ground was deeper. Those whistles were legendary. Your aunt sounds super dope and is that family member that always knew what you wanted.

Those were the times! From Arcade to unboxing a game system/game during birthdays and holidays.... the best excitement any kid could ask for. Now, a simple download is all we gamers get. Bring back psychical media and keep the 80's and the 90's alive by supporting the Retro gaming market. Best times!

Great story! I remember my mom trying to surprise me with a trip to the mall to purchase Super Mario 3. It was no where to be found! I was bummed and we were about to leave when my mom suggested checking out JC Penny. I was like...mom no way that store will have that. Sure enough as we walked into the store, in the clear glass display case was a copy of Super Mario 3. Good times back then!!

Omg this is amazing. You have the coolest Aunt. I hope she is still around. I remember it like yesterday on how difficult it was to find it. I was 12 in 1990 and somehow my mom found it at KB Toys in the mall in south Jersey around my birthday in November. I remember my friends having a hell of a time finding it later.

Great video. I know for myself, I'd never tell little me to not open them and play them, but I definitely would have a long conversation about at least keeping all the stupid boxes and instruction manuals lol. Awesome trip down memory lane. Thanks for this.

Great video. I have the left bros complete in the box for 32 bucks. A second hand store that has a nice video game section. That same store I found another left bros cart only. Still haven't beaten this but got close back around when I first had it. Your videos are so magical and great.

Another fan frickin tastic video Tyler! I might be a couple years older than you - born in '81, but the feelings of these magical past times are mutual. If I could go back in time and not open a game (or rather buy two copies and keep one unopened), it would be a toss up between Earthbound and Chrono Trigger. (Oh, and full disclosure, as I watched this video I rushed to my game room to check if I had the variant copy of SMB3...I did not lol)

Yeah as a kid you don't really think about the future you always live in the now. So I think even if you went back and told yourself you wouldn't have did that you know lol. I know myself as a kid I could have went back in time and told myself hey hold on to that because I had a few valuable toys an like two video games that would be worth a little bit of money. I could have told myself hold on to that you don't understand and I probably would have been as a kid I want to play it now and open it right up in front of myself. As always awesome content Tyler, we all appreciate your videos. Every one of them mean something to us in our own special way. Your channel is a way to connect to the past and relive things. Take care have a good day!
