In this video I make my first attempt at viewing a sunset from the summit of Avery Peak in the Bigelow range. Unsure of how the conditions would fair once I reached the peak, I hiked on in hopes of a view! Though I didn’t get one, I got the last few minutes of the golden glow at a lower viewing point.
My first time hiking in the dark here as well. Because I’ve hiked this trail so many times I was totally comfortable making the descent after sunset.
(Please don’t attempt any nighttime hiking unless you’re fully prepared and know the terrain.)
Thank you for watching another one of my adventures! Happy Hiking!!
Here’s a link to this hike if you’re interested.

Love your post!!! 4:02 - Love it!! Evening hikes are the best!!! If you pass to Little Bigelow in early spring, you could see the lights at a distance down south @ Sugarloaf!! Another cool evening hike is Mt Tecumseh. I have a home @ Waterville Valley and the July 4th fireworks are amazing to watch from that peak! Hike on, Alpine!! pro-tip, bring TWO headlamps, lol

Thanks! And thank you for the tips! I brought extra batteries lol! I have thought about grabbing a second headlamp so that I don’t have to fiddle around with batteries but haven’t yet. Happy Hiking!! 😁

Where you stopped, and the music started before you began your descent - The music was perfect; ethereal in quality, drifting and enveloping. But yet light all at once. 10 outta 10 young lady. Oh, and how many times people say “What are you doing?” “Ahhh….I’m checking to see how slippy it is….” …and they watch you moving your boot back n forth to check the slippy-ness ( and yes, that’s a word…heh ) and they look at you as if you have 6 eyes. “What did he say he was doing???” N.e.v.e.r mind folks…..when you go arse over kite and crack ya skull, you’ll work it out…

Wow thank you for that description. Very sweet compliment indeed! Haha.. Yeah, the danger is real out on them wet rocks. I broke my kneecap around New Years 6 months ago. Not worth it. I try to take careful steps. 😂😂😂

@@AmandaDouin It may be the GoPro angle, but some of your descents , look as if you are stepping 12 O’clock straight down. I’m sure you know this already, but in case you don’t, I always step sideways. If you lose grip - it’s easier and safer to recover. If stepping forward and down, toes at 12 O’clock - and you slip, things can get bad fast. Friend of mine, always went toes forward. Heel slipped one day and he broke his ankle - all the way around. So yeah… Knwwcap???? Geezuz…sorry to hear

@@twohouses2259 Thanks for that tip 💗. I actually broke it on Ice but I know you can slip on wet rocks too. It’s in my Mt Kearsarge North Video. I don’t capture the fall but briefly talk about it during the video. I barely made it back to the car, hobbling and breathing through every step. I fell twice that day. The second time did me in… I fell the second time because of how weak my leg was already. Live and learn. 😅

@@AmandaDouinGeeezuz….Sorry to hear. I am assuming you were alone ( duh ) but like you said - Live & Learn. Carry those “Strips” that Gymnast’s use - they are light, and can be used to pull and move the skin etc and or place pressure on muscles etc. Cheap as buggery and I think Wally-World stocks them. Mandah - I’m sure you do ( I do not want to assume ) , but carry enough Gear to tide you over in the event it all turns to what comes out of a cows behind… I’d love to know what you packed on the Hunt’ ascent. Hope the knee got it’s shit sorted out!

@@twohouses2259 Thank you. Actually I was with someone - and partly think the distraction of talking helped me take the misstep.. 😂 I’m not a good multitasker during a hike apparently. Yes that tape stuff works great I’ve heard. Yeah - I carry gear in case I have to wait out rescue or to survive the night. I don’t know if I’ll ever make a video on that though.. there are so many ‘opinions’ and ‘preferences’ when it comes to what you should carry with you. 😅

Awesome video as always Have you been down to the Bigelow Lodge? It’s behind that big metal gate close to where you would park for that hike. It’s an interesting building to see and it used to be open to the public because it’s owned by the state.

I have a Petzl, and an Eddie Bauer one. I also carry extra batteries. I don’t know much about headlamps other than those ones but my most important thing is that I have 1-2 headlamps with me plus extra batteries as well. 😁
