Wow, this was genuinely a fantastic trailer!! And since I last left off my playthrough of the Myst series with Riven, it really is like getting to experience the hype for the next game, for the first time.

If you don't want to wait for Cyan's 25th Anniv. Ed. (Win10), a used 10th Anniv. DVD (2003) is cheap and can still work. I have a mediocre Win7 laptop, and after a few tweaks (thanks trusty internet Myst fans) it runs fine.

I think that Riven and Exile are the best games and Exile has arguably the best story Riven has puzzles and world space if I were you and wanted more Myst, play Exile then stop. Myst 4, Uru, and Myst 5, are ok to not very good at all (Uru) so play at your own risk

The theme at 1:48... after 17 years, that music still gives me goose bumps. I loved Exile so much, and its visual are still incredible to this day.

This is the trailer, this is the very thing that got me to fall back in love with Myst and even engage with the fan community! Let me back up a bit. I played the original Myst (on my 486 PC running Windows 3.11) and I thought it was a great game. I got a strategy guide that went through the game like a narrative, which I thought was great, and I'd watch the "making of" video over and over again, and seeing them describe how they'd tell the computer where each wall of a room would go inspired me to get into computer graphics so I could create my own worlds. Later, I saw a box of Riven in a store, and it said it was "The Sequel to Myst" but from the screenshots on the box, its worlds looked much more brown and not as varied and colorful as the worlds in Myst, so it looked weird to me at first. I still would have bought it to check it out, except the box also said "requires Windows 95", which I didn't have at the time, so I didn't get it then. Fast-forward to when I saw this trailer online, and my jaw hit the floor. Now I know that they were just concept art, but seeing those drawings in a book manifested as "real things" for the first time was astounding to me, and I'd watch the transition of the top view of J'nanin over and over again. Then came the last part with the scenes from the game, and not only did they look just like the worlds I saw in Myst (colorful and with lots of mechanical switches to turn), they looked a lot more detailed and complex, and there were even animations! Remember, I'd never seen any part of Riven, so seeing a Myst game with animated transitions, which showed doors actually opening (instead of switching between two images), was amazing to me. Unlike when I played Myst and saw Riven in a store, this time I had access to the internet, so I looked around for any new information I could find on this game, eventually coming across a free download of the main theme by Jack Wall, which also amazed me. This trailer rekindled my love of the original game, and so I went searching for everything I had missed out on: Riven, the novels, the community websites, CyanChat, where Cyan HQ was, their previous games like The Manhole, all of it. I ended up getting the Myst III: Exile Collector's Edition, which came with the soundtrack CD and a pewter figurine of a squee (which has been sitting on my desk to this very day), and because I got more involved with the community, I got to participate in the anticipation of all the new titles: realMyst, Myst IV, Uru, End of Ages, and Obduction. So thank you for uploading the video that brought be back to the world(s) of Myst!

Wow I had the collector's edition of Myst 3 too and forgot all about that till I saw your comment. Idk what happened to my squee figurine over the years. Did you end up liking Riven when you played it? I think of the first 3 (haven't finished the series) Exile was the most complex but Riven had the best plot and looked photographically real.

@@Reneebenson The first Myst has been re-released a couple of times, most recently as "realMYST Masterpiece Edition" for several platforms, including the Switch. There's a fan project working on a new version of Riven, look up "The Starry Expanse". There's also a new adventure game by the same company called "Obduction", and they're currently working on a game called "Firmament".

With the upcoming release of Riven, I've come back here again to admire this trailer. It amazes me how ever game in the series has managed to have this unique style to its trailers, but still very identifiably "Myst"-like features for all

The main theme of this game sounds badass until you realize they're just saying the names of the different worlds in the game. It's the D'ni equivalent of the Yakko's World song from Animaniacs.

Saavedro is also singing there, and they're not only saying the names in the chorus, sure they're there, but there's also more Full lyrics copied from a youtube comment: Translation: Tomahna, Edanna, Amateria, Voltaic, Narayan; J'Nanin, where the journey to learn the Art begins. (Saavedro as boy) Narayan, my home; Narayan, whose lattice tree is live; I think of you with joy. Keep my family safe; Shelter the ones I love. Tomahna... J'Nanin, use what you have seen to unlock all that my Ages have to offer. I will avenge your peril; Remember my heart! Tomahna! ... Releeshahn! Annihilation! I will avenge my Narayan! Tomahna... Also, I hope that they iron out the plot holes in Myst 4. Here are my ideas. Atrus wasn’t sure that the trap books would work, so he made sure that the age they linked to worked just as well. “If one end of a trap book’s link is severed, the prisoner links to the other end. This could allow potential thieves to be redeemed.” Sirrus linked a crap-ton of “trinkets” (looting devices) to woo the (nonexistent) inhabitants of spire. Atrus notes that his trap book experiments don’t seem to work with inorganic material.
