Wow! Didn't know this was even a thing! I still have my original Riven CD-ROMs in a box and have been saving them for when I had forgotten enough of the story and puzzles to play it again like it was the first time. Well, nearly 25 years later I had forgotten that I was even waiting to forget! I guess that means it's time to play it again! Myst and, especially, Riven have had a special place in my heart and mind for half of my life now. What better way to jump back into the islands of Riven! To the team at Cyan Worlds - for all the times you asked yourselves "why in the hell are we doing this?" fans like myself are your answer. THANK YOU so much for bringing this back, changes and all, for a new generation as well as us old guys!

Thank you Cyan! Amazing job Eric! This is a dream come true, a true masterpiece in every way. Have been holding my breath for a Riven remake since I saw a glimpse of it in realMYST easter egg. Can't wait for more D'ni / URU games.

I would have loved to see more original settings and worlds from Cyan, like Firmament and especially Obduction. But I understand why you'd prefer going back to D'ni instead, and look forward to seeing what you come up with! This was a fun presentation. The Riven remake looks amazing, I can't wait to play it.

Is there any wayto skip transitions when your traveling in the vehicles from one island to another? Also, is there a name for the underwater submarine vehicle that you use on Jungle Island?
@Cyan-Official
@Cyan-Official 2 сағат бұрын
There IS! Look for "Hide Vehicle Transitions" in the Control menu to turn the transitions off. We just call it "the submarine" internally. :-) Hope that helps!

I loved the new twists and turns. One of the new features was a huge surprise, and a great addition! The puzzles were not obscure and never made me wonder "how in the world would I have known that?". I truly enjoyed every moment of playing it.

So, I have a question to ask. When you are let out of the initial cage in the beginning of the game and turn right to walk to the cliff and look over to see the man lying down there, the Maglev takes off from Temple Island. The time it takes for the person who triggered the cage to open and locked the lever in the opened position to travel to the Maglev is too short a time to open the Temple door leading out to the Maglev. With this in mind, is there a secret passage to the Maglev which bypasses the Temple? How else can this individual open the Temple door from the rotating room, travel back and forth to open all the doors from the rotating room, walk down to the purple room and open the Temple door...then go back and reverse all that they did, then travel to the Maglev to ride on it.
@Cyan-Official
@Cyan-Official 5 сағат бұрын
This assumes that the person who let you out of the cage is the SAME person in the Maglev... Which... Is an assumption! ;-)

Thank you guys - the work you do is amazing - keep it going! I have been playing Myst on a friend's computer as a kid in the late 90s and there was even a tv show where they streamed playing it. It is great that I can now come back to these times and replay those games with the understanding of the story and puzzles I have now. I don't buy a lot of games but your games are ones that I would buy again and again and wouldn't even think about it.

Mechanical age has always been imprinted in my memory and this remake really does it justice. I’d love to live in an isolated house, suspended above an infinite ocean maybe with distant storms far off… it has and continues to be my favorite environment in a game ever.

Thank you Cyan for this amazing remake/re imagination of a game that has been dear to me for decades now. I feel the original Riven was such an immersive experience that in terms of world building was leaps ahead of anything at that moment. This remake made me realize however that the original game still had some "gamey" elements that didn't feel quite as organic as intended. Riven 2024 fixes these elements with several amazing revisions.It's also amazing to see these great locations rendered in real time with the same level of detail as the pre renders of the original game. Its a true masterpiece just like the 1997 original.

Why is there no mention or reference anywhere to the Starry Expanse project's contribution and motivation for the Riven remake?

Other than... the FAQ we published, as well as the full statement about the Starry Expanse team's involvement with Riven which we put out all the way back in October of 2022... As well as our extensive mentions of their contributions to Riven during 2019 and 2023s Mysterium conventions, AND the fact that every member of the Starry Expanse team is called out by name in the credits for the game?? Other than ALL those mentions and references, you mean?

Riven is a masterpiece, and the changes elevate the worldbuilding to new heights. No game could even be permitted into the discussion of greatest adventure games until Mobius' Outer Wilds decades later. Thats how hard you guys nailed this in 1997.

Thanks for making Riven again. I am enjoying it as the first time, and in VR, a dream that comes true. I also really appreciate you didn’t sell the IP, but you make this happen with your own forces, showing us the love you have for Myst series. You deserve the success and the positive reviews you are having with Riven.

First off, awesome remake! I played the original with my dad back in 97, when i was 12, so it was especially fun to rediscover things and also think, wait, was it like this before...? All changes were on point. *spoilers* Two things that stood out to me as very minor things that were overlooked in the riven remake. 1) if you visit gehn with the book, then leave, then open the fissure, he takes the book from you that he already took from you.... 2) when you rescue catherine, after she leaves, then you leave through the dome also, the center moveable catwalk should be set to jungle island not prison Island still.

The main thing I would love to see from a Myst update would be replacing the Atrus model with the one from Riven. I think Sirrus and Achenar are decent enough that they could go untouched (and too much work, and replaceable with the video option).

Thank you for sharing this "State of The Union". Very interesting. I haven't played through Riven yet, but have enjoyed it very much so far. Being able to look and go in any direction alone adds a whole new dimension to the game! I'd just like to say CYAN has always made the only computer games I have any interest in. Exploring incredible worlds at my own pace without fear of being killed or having to kill is so relaxingly satisfying. For me, Rand and Robyn brought the spirit of an old, text driven game, I really enjoyed back in the day, called Zork. MYST provided.exploration similar to Zork, but with amazing visuals to go along with the exploration. Since then, CYAN has steadily improved upon its unique mastery of the art. Regarding Rand's retirement, congratulations! (How nice it is to have the time to work on pet projects without deadlines!) Rand's retirement is well deserved and it appears CYAN is in very capable hands for the future. My prayer is that the pioneering spirit at CYAN continues with much future success.

I played the original MYST and RIVEN when they released. My brother found MYST and we got it as our very first CDROM game! We played MYST together. Then RIVEN came out and we played that together as well. It was just a JOY to play this latest version of RIVEN ... in PC VR (Steam w/ Valve Index). it is so gorgeous, and I got lost just walking around the world. So much so, that I forgot to take NECESSARY screenshots, I got many that were glamour shots I found or trying to look through walls (he he he, it is a pleasure of mine! But I took time to go back and lift the heavy headset off to write down notes pen and paper old school style, in a kind of spread sheet style and my messy handwriting. I LOVE the changes! There is plenty of things I remember. And I have the original game (in it's own boxed version with autographs as well as the anniversary box set!) so no worries! The changes made so much sense AND it was so wonderful to play the game as if a brand new player! It is GORGEOUS and feels so real. Thank you very much for all your hard work! As stated above I was a fan starting with the first MYST game that my younger brother played with me. Thank you, and best of luck in the present and the future!! I am so hoping you get lots of sales!!!! You truly deserve it!

absolutely great being there in VR. funny trivia: back when this was launching, I was actually playing text-adventures I missed back in the 80s as I was too busy with arcade and console games. My first Cyan game was actually Obduction, on psvr. Since then also finished Myst in VR as well. Exploring fantastic worlds like this is what this new medium was made for... often too wasted in dumb minigames...

Getting way ahead of literally everyone, I asked ChatGPT “if the Riven remake does well over the next couple years, could Cyan convince Ubisoft to partner with them on an Exile remake?” (yes, I’m aware Cyan didn’t make Myst III: Exile. shh). ChatGPT’s elaborate response: Partnering with Ubisoft to remake *Myst III: Exile* in VR is a plausible scenario, especially if the *Riven* remake continues to perform well. Here are some key points that might support this potential partnership: 1. **Proven Success**: If the *Riven* remake demonstrates strong sales and positive reception, it can serve as a proof of concept that there is a market for high-quality VR remakes of classic games. This success could help convince Ubisoft of the viability of a similar project for *Exile*. 2. **Shared Vision**: Both Cyan and Ubisoft have a history of producing high-quality, immersive games. If they share a vision for how *Exile* could be brought into VR while preserving its unique qualities, this alignment could be a strong foundation for collaboration. 3. **Financial and Technical Support**: Ubisoft, with its significant resources and experience in game development, could provide the financial backing and technical expertise necessary for such a large-scale project. This support could help ensure the remake meets the high standards set by modern VR experiences. 4. **Market Demand**: Ubisoft would likely be interested in market data indicating strong demand for a *Myst III: Exile* remake. Positive sales figures and reviews for *Riven* would be key indicators. Additionally, community interest and feedback could also play a role in persuading Ubisoft. 5. **Strategic Benefits**: For Ubisoft, collaborating on a successful VR remake could enhance their portfolio and strengthen their position in the VR market. It could also revitalize interest in their classic titles, leading to increased sales of other games in the series. If Cyan and Ubisoft were to pursue this collaboration, the following steps might be involved: 1. **Negotiations**: Cyan would need to initiate discussions with Ubisoft to explore the possibility of obtaining the rights to remake *Exile*. These negotiations would cover terms, financial agreements, and project scope. 2. **Project Planning**: Once an agreement is reached, a detailed project plan would be developed, outlining the technical requirements, budget, timeline, and key milestones. Both companies would need to agree on the creative direction and how to best leverage VR technology. 3. **Team Collaboration**: A joint development team would be formed, combining Cyan's expertise in the *Myst* series with Ubisoft's resources and VR development experience. Clear communication channels and project management practices would be essential. 4. **Marketing and Distribution**: A well-coordinated marketing strategy would be needed to generate excitement and awareness for the remake. Both companies could leverage their existing fan bases and marketing channels to maximize reach. In summary, if the *Riven* remake performs well, there is a realistic possibility that Cyan could partner with Ubisoft to create a VR remake of *Myst III: Exile*. Such a collaboration could result in a groundbreaking and highly immersive VR experience, benefiting both companies and delighting fans of the series.
