Coming from a financially unstable background to standing up on his own feet, he's really amazing to achieve and I hope I can also make my family financially stable one day. I'm trying not to cry because him talking about his air mattress popping and going back to sleeping on the floor. I...I hate that he dealt with that too. Slept on the floor for three weeks and then an air mattress for three years. My mom and I shared it. We bought the cheaper ones so we'd patch it up for as long as we could before buying a new one.

I just know about this and i can definately relate to what Mysta had been through. Im still sleeping on the floor right now, all i have are a foam mat and a small blanket. Been like this for 11 years now ( still on going ) and hopefully im gonna have a proper bed when i finish college and go to work

God, as someone with really bad social anxiety and on the spectrum, forced to work jobs around customer service and getting paid a literal misery, i can relate to him so much, and it is true when you're a minor working, they deadass don't care, it's like they see you as mere ants basically. And working as a host at a restaurant, becoming the one thing I dreaded, constantly getting rejected and shit, and still getting paid a misery, while doing the job from 2-9, bro it's the worst

I remember when I was young and before moving to a better place me, my mom and my older sibling would all sleep in the same bed because our home at the time didn't have enough space for more rooms, i remember the ceiling being very short too. I'm not gonna pretend i know exactly how mysta felt but i get his situation, growing up poor and staying like that for a good while of your life and the desperate feeling of getting out of it. He's an inspiration and he's very strong. I hope he knows it, but also I hope he doesnt feel pressured to set an example.

Interesting how myself and Mysta had similar origins... I also handed out leaflets for some time, although I was meant to get payed. I didn't, and after the second week I never saw my employer again. Now I'm just trying to work the algorithm to the point where I'm capable of moving out of my parents' house at some point in the next two years.

man the work stories brings back memories. i worked full time at a theme park when i was about 17. in pounds, a month i would get about 50 pounds a month. (i’m my currency it’s closer to 2000). i worked 6 days a week. i’d be at work from 8am (bus pick up was at 6am) and work ended at 10pm (bus drop off would be at 12am). i lived alone so it was only enough for me to pay bills and nothing else. breaks were split into 3. 30 minutes, 15 minutes and 20 minutes. i worked there for months until my health had declined to the point where i couldn’t even stand because no other job would pay close to what i was earning there. every adult there had a higher pay and less hours too. luckily i did enjoy the job outside of the mental and physical exhaustion, with nice people around me to boot. but truly, it was horrible.

As a child of immigrant parents, my family lived below the poverty line for many years, and there were multiple times we almost became homeless. Even now we're barely placed right against the poverty line, and still struggle paycheck to paycheck. My parents have been disabled for over a decade after their blue collar jobs wrecked their bodies, so it's been up to us kids to make up for what was lost. Many times we had to rely on food banks to eat. There were times when all we would get for breakfast before school was a few saltines and a glass of tap water. I spent my entire childhood sleeping on the floor. I remember I got my first real bed at 12, and even then it only lasted a few years before I was back on the floor with an old, dirty and bloo*d stained futon pad. It wasn't until I started college that I finally have a bed again. I currently work a minimum wage job while I study in college, so that I can afford to eat as well as afford to continue my own education where my income-based aid is lacking. I've always really appreciated Mysta talking about his past and these realities of life, because it made me feel less alone and ashamed of my own past. I'm really proud of how far he's come, and I can only hope that I can do the same and support my family as well as myself in the future.
