Where is the dividing line between us and animals? I don't believe there is a dividing line. We are animals too.

Chimps terrify me so much because of how violent they can be, but when I am safe behind my TV screen all I can think is "Wow, they are great. They are adorable. Love them".

Don’t forget Jane Goodall! The most fulfilling and amazing class I took in college included teaching my own rat to push the bar for food. Being nocturnal, training was always done at night. It was exhilarating when my partner and I succeeded!

If only we could regulate the companies constantly destroying the environments so many of these sentient animals need to survive and thrive. These creatures give us extraordinary insight into our own minds and all the dark corners in there as well as give us insight into how we can achieve success within our own societies as a collective. But that’s not ever going to happen if we keep destroying the only planet we can thrive or live on.

If non-human animals can reach the intelligence of a 4 year old child, hold the same ability to suffer and feel pain, then there truly is no justification for us to use any animals as property; whether it be for food, clothes, circuses, etc. We ought to treat them with real respect. They are marvels after all.

What many of those watching this documentary are not growing to know is that the power of human thought comes from language. Without language, there is very, very little thought happening. What is left is pure instinct that is being confused with complex thought.

we are of same categories as aliens. Aliens have their animals and we have ours. They would easily identify us as their equals and our animals to the equals of their animals and not see us as animals

That dog experiment seems kinda fundamentally flawed. If smell is not a factor then there should have been an example where she points to the wrong container as well as the right one, in order to create evidence that smell was not a factor at all. Otherwise it's very likely the dog can track the scent.

Question. Why do animals seem to have more love and compassion? To me, it’s obvious that they do. In a way, I believe that humans are trained or brainwashed or “conditioned” to become hateful and lack love and compassion. The difference with most animals is, they can be too, but it’s much more easily reversed with love and compassion in and shown to the animals. I find it quite opposite in humans. Once humans are hurt in any way, it’s more difficult, or impossible, to change their brains to accept forgiveness, a willingness to explore the the negative actions and emotions they’ve experienced, to explore the possibilities of healing, and to trust again. It seems, when it comes to “humanity”, trust, and emotions, animals, are far more advanced than humans. Anthropomorphism. This, to me, would be an awesome study.

My theory is that animals don't tend to hold grudges the way we do, therefore are able to forgive and forget a lot easier. It probably happens because they know the action that was done (them being hit, or having something stolen such as food), but not the precise reason behind it or the implications of that reason. If some dude steals your watch and then hit you in the face, you know he's doing that because he's probably a mean person and thief. If someone hits you in the face because you're black or brown, you know they're doing that because they're racist narrow-minded people. Now, if most animals act agressively towards another, they might know the reason (such as the agressor being hungry, angry, whatever), but will not explore such reason much further than this, and therefore won't tend to take it personally. This in the end makes it so forgiving comes easier once the behavior is reversed and they're shown affection instead. It's not that humans are trained to be hateful - you could say the same about the opposite as there are pretty awesome and loving people out here. It's that humans have much more complex emotions, and complexity makes our behavior become less consistent. We see many layers of reasoning behind matters, which in turn provokes many different and varied emotions. That is why we can hate just as hard as we can love.

There has been cases of chimps holding a grudge, of hating all humans, or just 1 sex, say a woman abused them for years or a man abused them, they never liked them again. They are their enemy. Also Elephants know and don't forget. Even have tore down a hut or house to cause harm against the farmer that hurt or killed family members of theirs. In parts of Africa a community has gone after Elephants at night, because they have eaten their crops, the Elephants hate people in this area's. Wildlife rehab people have got programs to help with this. But some so called roge Elephant has been killed by hunters because they are so dangerous. Our dogs can remember to. My Dog, went 7 years of not seeing my mom, and sister, he went nuts when he saw them, wiggling, going to my mom's rocker and back to her like he used to do . She sat down and he jumped into her lap. Also every night even if she wasn't in the family room he guided her to the chair, he makes noises like he is talking, he can say some words. Gam is what he called mom, for grandma. ,me, I am mom. He says Aw want, he does his head in a have turn in the direction of where he wants you to see. And looks at it. Ware his canned food is, he looks up at top of friege for his snacks, and if we had a dinner meal with meat he looks at the fridge, scratches at it sometimes . He does the same thing when he wants out, to the front door. He was nursed and raised by my border collie with her babies, she also raised 2 kitten's that were dumb, at different times not related. She nursed them. Well back to Brags, he can say home. Wont home. I stayed 10 mos, at my mom's, he cried and said this ever night . He was excited when we were packing to go home. He called my son, bull for Billy, and mie for my grand daughter. Sometimes he put an non it mien. Her name is Willow. She was his baby since she was born. He is 1/2 black shu wah wah, (I know not spelled right. I had a stroke.) And 1/2 miniature black and tan Dotson, , he is 14. He has outlived all his natural siblings. His mom got run over when he was 2 weeks old. My vet warned me that 10 years is the oldest he knew that they have lived. He turned 14, may 21st. Going blind and def. But still my baby.

Its wrong to even begin to compare intelligence or to say some animals are more intelligent than others , a snake or any other animal is adapted (acts and behaves) towards what they need in THEIR lives and not what humans thinks they should need.. they don't need to know those stuff cus they don't add value to their lives otherwise they would die cus it be an inability ,is not an inability to them thats why they continue to live without them..

Wouldn’t it be amazing if, they actually knew some “smart” human was in there, trying to make them believe they were looking at themselves. Perhaps, just maybe, they’re not checking out their own eyes, but trying to let you know, I see you! Not with just one eye, but with both and from this point on, I’m side eyeing you!!!

Some cats do realize that they are seeing themselves in the mirror because the realize that what they see is moving in exactly the way that they are, but other cats don't seem to figure this out. Throughout the years, I always end up with about six cats that find their way to me somehow, usually off of the street. The more recent cohorts of cats have been more likely to understand that what they see in the mirror is themselves because they definitely look at it but they don't freak out like more of the cats I had earlier on.

I'm only ten minutes into this documentary, so they may discuss this thought later on (but I didn't want to wait in case I missed it.) So far they're discussing intelligence levels of certain species, but I wonder if they will determine that, just like humans, some are much smarter than others...? I mean, think about it: I've had guys work for me that were obviously smart. But there were standouts even among the smart guys, who would just "get" something I was explaining to them on a whole 'nother level than any of my other guys. So what's to say if/when these researchers do determine that some type of monkey did indeed understand sarcasm for example, based on nothing more than the facial expression of his mate, that these monkeys aren't actually quite that intelligent. But instead, maybe he just happened to pick the one who had an unusually high IQ...?
@thanrose
@thanrose 4 жыл бұрын
You're right. Even in parakeets, some are smarter than others. Dogs, bonobos, dolphin, yep: they all have a range of intelligence in their own species. Researchers in many cases use only the animals provided to them for their studies, but many times they will choose a particular animal because of some perceived ability or interest. Koko and Nim Chimpsky were both likely extraordinarily intelligent for their respective species, but it doesn't negate the research being done with them.

Hilariously, you actually can't know for sure what other members of your own species are thinking so, when people claim that you can't tell anything about what other animals are thinking, they don't even realize that the same holds true for humans but other humans assume things from social cues, which there is no reason for not also doing when it comes to other animals.

Bonobo society is govern by women and are less prone to violence. I would think that women have the same male aggression. My sister-in-law's uncle has a dog Molly. And when they brought Molly to my brother's home where my Mom's dog, Collette happen to be, and my brother's dog, Luca, male German Shepard, Molly fought with my Mom's dog. When females of any domesticated species are near each other they will have a better tendency to spare at one another. Whereas in the wild, that will seldom if ever occur. I would also think that if more husbands kept custody of their children in a divorce settlement, there would be more ex wives committing homicide/violence towards their ex-husbands if left with nothing and oh ya no-one. instead of the usual outcome of keeping control of the kids, alimony, the house, etc...It would be fascinating/interesting to see.

I think it's quite clear that animals can't experience things like love and hope. I'm not going to explain in a small area like this but humans were given the ability to feel these emotions that animals can't by God.
@christopherwilliams7905
@christopherwilliams7905 4 жыл бұрын
I'm not saying they have no emotions I'm saying not emotions like love etc. They don't have existential experiences. They don't think about God and what happens when they die. They don't even think about what their child who isn't with them at the moment is doing right now... Things like that and so much more!

What are you talking about? Animals experience love. Have you seen a dog when his owner comes back from outside? Or a dog who defends his owners from threats? Or a dog or cat who grieves his owners? If that’s not love, I don’t know what is. As for hope, when they call out to their owners, they are always hoping their owners come back to them.
