Not LCOMA. I bet LGOMA for ALGOMA Canada. Algoma Steel, Sault Ste. Marie. 🙂

Ah, that makes sense, seen that name stamped on mine tracks before. Thanks Brad!

Search for: Iron and Steel Brands A Catalog of Steel Mill Marks. Looks like that beam was rolled in 1930?

It is always fun investigating old ruins and trying to figure what and how they were used for !!

I agree, one of my favorite past times. Working in the Mills, elevators and plants all my life has given me a pretty good idea on what I'm looking at. Thanks Vance!

Awesome trip. Thank you for not leaving me on the side of the highway for talking our ear off. That was a really cool walk around. Of whatever that structure was.

Happy Sunday Rob, how are you?, yet another interesting find for you and Marc. It's nice to see this channel's subscriber numbers still going up at least a little bit. Have a nice week and bye for now from "Port Arthur".

Thanks Marc! Doing alright I guess. Can be active for most of one day and then dead and crippled the next. It's getting tough and I don't think it will get any better. But for the meantime I'm still getting out there doing things.

My guess is that footprint/foundation you were in was the sawmill itself. Probably steam driven with belts and chains. Cool stuff.

Yes, I believe you are right. It's a pretty cool site even though most of it is gone. Thanks Andrew!

All it could really be is logging related. I spent five years paddling around northern Ontario out of two canoe tripping camps on Lake Temagami but our trips ranged all the way up to Moose Factory on James Bay. We also sent at least one trip down the Albany River into Hudson’s Bay. The fishing was so good on the Albany that the campers would catch a northern pike on pretty much every cast. And of the course the provincial bird of Ontario is the mosquito.

When you cut fallen trees out of the road, please cut full road width. It makes it a lot more convenient when the larger vehicle need to get down the road.

The structure looks like a sawdust hopper. The holes would be the chute . Were the axle is looked like a impressive blower. Just speculation.

I'd have to agree. Would've been cool to see it before it burned. Thanks!

Might gave used the saw dust for fuel for mill?
@OutdoorRob22 күн бұрын
Could be, not sure how they operated back then exactly. Thanks Fred!

Why do you figure they built this so far from the lake? ... or do I have the proportions wrong?
@OutdoorRob21 күн бұрын
It's not too far from the lake, maybe 500'. Not sure what the reasoning would be for that unless there was more machinery in-between which is quite possible. Thanks

i wonder if that name was Alcoa mining company. Given what i found out i think it was maybe gold or silver. not saw dust. so i am looking at this. the timbers were brought in and used for support beams in the mine. as for the company iit was just broke in 2 in 2016. i am also guessing they had big kilns there for drying the wood. anyways just my thoughts.

Clearly a mining camp as I see the video intro

Video intro has an abandoned fly-in fishing resort in it, no mining camp. Thanks for checking the vid out!
