Sallis65, thank you! It's fast-paced, without annoying police car scenes. Veteran actors doing a good job, and clear dialog. This is a 1933 film and it's unfortunate so many viewers felt the need to negatively pick it apart. It was a straight-forward murder mystery, and I ended it. 😮😊

Edward Von Sloan (Professor Hawley) was in 3 of the biggest movies in the history of hollywood. Van Helsing in Dracula, Dr Waldman in Frankenstein and Dr Muller in The Mummy.

Really enjoyed Charles Starrett as "The Durango Kid". His fight scenes weren't interminable as most other actors' were.

Bill: "Doc, you're a rat!"...Somehow Bill just didn't act too worried in the clutches of the doctor. Not the best acting...& it sure ended abruptly!

Mrs Richards: "I paid for a room with a view!" Basil: (pointing to the lovely view) "That is Torquay, Madam." Mrs Richards: "It's not good enough!" Basil: "May I ask what you were expecting to see out of a Torquay hotel bedroom window? Sydney Opera House, perhaps? the Hanging Gardens of Babylon? Herds of wildebeest sweeping majestically past?..." Mrs Richards: "Don't be silly! I expect to be able to see the sea!" Basil: "You can see the sea, it's over there between the land and the sky." Mrs Richards: "I'm not satisfied. But I shall stay. But I expect a reduction." Basil: "Why?! Because Krakatoa's not erupting at the moment ?"

Early in they discuss the shot came from var places - what about the gunshot sound? Who rang the cops? A mansion for a frat house. "He lacked the cultural background a college man should have." Boy, how things have changed. WWII opened college to a lot of folks who couldn't even think about it before. A girl visits a classmate and hides in her bedroom where there are two chairs; she sits on the bed and at the pillow. No manners or silly direction from someone who has no "cultural background". Etc, etc. Enjoyable but juvenile.
