Mythical Creatures in the Bible (Old Testament Edition)

All world religions and mythologies have extraordinary beasts. And the Bible is no exception. In this video, let's explore four creatures found in the Old Testament: Unicorns, the Behemoth & Leviathan and Nephilim. We'll also examine their potential origins, from hippos to crocodiles to other beasts entirely. This is just a small selection, and not an exhaustive list. Just a series of mythical creatures that have interesting stories, especially how the Leviathan relates to the concept of the chaoskampf.
I've enjoyed exploring topics that relate to mythology and biblical studies, it seems that they go down well. Perhaps that no surprise, as most discover the channel through my Bible accurate angels video. I'm always open to suggestions for content, but next week I'm planning on surprising you all with a very different topic.
I recently surpassed the 10k subscriber milestone. Simply absurd. All your views are much appreciated, especially those that lead to new subscribers. Thank you all!

It's funny that "behemoth" sounds similar to Russian word "бегемот", which literary means "hippo"
@cecily_cardew
@cecily_cardew 2 жыл бұрын
It's because Russians first heard of these creatures through the Bible since they didn't travel to Africa before becoming Christians. That's why when they actually saw a hippo for the first time, they were like 'oh, I've read about that one' and named it a бегемот (begemót)

John 5:30: "By myself, I can do nothing; I judge only as I hear, and my judgment is just, for I seek not to please myself but him who sent me." 1. How old was Jehoiachin when he became King? - He was 8 years old. (2 Chronicles 36:9) - He was 18 years old. (2 Kings 24:8) Which one is true? how can God's word have a contradiction? 2. First Samuel:15 God orders to kill all men and women of a group and their infants and animals for a sin that was committed by their forefathers who died 400 years before.. 3. How did Judas die? - Threw pieces of silver away and hanged himself. (Matthew 27:5) - Kept the piece of silver and bought with it a field and fell headlong and burst open in the middle and all his bowels gushed out. (Acts 1:18) 4. How many horsemen?? - And David took from him a thousand chariots, and seven hundred horsemen, and twenty thousand footmen. (2 Samuel 8:4) - And David took from him a thousand chariots, and seven thousand horsemen, and twenty thousand footmen. (First Chronicles 18:4) You choose: 1. The holy spirit can lie or 2. God is not able to preserve his message or 3. its from Humans. Do your natural inclination and reasoning accept that Almighty God can be a baby, eat food, pray to his God, made lower than Angels (Hebrews 2:9) and be killed on earth, stays dead for days and needs someone to revive him (all in the bible)? Do you really believe this? John 17:3 Jesus praying to the father: "..that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent." If Jesus or the holy spirit are also God, it means Jesus didn't speak the truth or they are in fact NOT God. Why is this important? The entire message contains errors and contradictions and thus it can not be from God, not only that, but it is a lie. - John 1:18: No one has ever seen God; the only God, who is at the Father's side, he has made him known." Did people see Jesus? if yes, he is not god according to the bible. - The bible says many times that God alone is immortal and all-knowing BUT Jesus when asked, said he didn't know when the last hour will come and ALSO Jesus got killed stayed dead for 3 days and needed his God to revive him, which proves he is not God. If God can do anything and even become human to "get killed for your sins", why can't he forgive without having to do all these unjust things? Why does "god" have to become human or kill his own son /Shed the blood of his son/himself to "forgive" you? If he is God, he doesn't have to do all of that. If Jesus came for the purpose of dying for your sins, why did he say "My God, My God, why have you forsaken me? (Matthew 27:46)" on the cross? isnt this what he wanted and what he came for? Jesus praying to prevent the crucifixion after telling his disciples he was depressed to the point of death, he fell and pray multiple times asking to prevent the crucifixion: Matthew 26:36-42, Mark 14:35-36, Luke 22:41-42 Example: "And continuing on a little further, he fell prostrate on his face, praying and saying: " My father, if it is possible, let this chalice pass away from me. Yet truly, let not be as i will, but as You will." A claim in a different book that Jesus is completely willing to be crucified: “Now My soul has become troubled; and what shall I say, ‘Father, save Me from this hour? But for this purpose I came to this hour.” (John 12:27) Jesus was just a prophet with a different mother language than the bible and the church held the bible hostage for years to change it how they like and preached for a man-made religion (Historical facts, ask for evidence). "Jesus the son of Mary was no more than a messenger; many were the messengers that passed away before him. His mother was a woman of truth" Quran 5:75 If you want to know why the Quran is from nonother than Allah, i will list you irrefutable evidence that the creator himself sent down the Quran. Moses split the see and Elijah rose people from the dead are they also god? Matthew 7:21 21: "Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. 22: any will say to me on that day, 'Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name and in your name drive out demons and in your name perform many miracles?' 23: Then I will tell them plainly, 'I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!'" Who calls Jesus Lord and who does all those things today other than Christians, who don't even know what the will of the father is? The only true God, wants true monotheism, just like Jesus. If Jesus thinks he is the father, it would be the same to him if people called them both God but Jesus hated the ones who called him Lord, find me one verse about him clearly and unambiguously saying, that he is God and i will become Christian. There is no God but the one true God that sent Jesus and all the other messengers who have Books that cant hide and are easy to prove wrong or from no other than Allah (AL: The God: Ilah). The God: Ilah). I am inviting you to stop worshipping a human in a 3in1 god and to read the Quran. You must follow all of the 600+ Rules according to your Bible. Matthew 5:19 "Therefore anyone who sets aside one of the least of these commands and teaches others accordingly will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever practices and teaches these commands will be called great in the kingdom of heaven." 5: The word "Begotten" son in John 3:16 KJV is a fabrication that is only found in few bible versions. This was put there by humans who had the power to put it there and intentionally wanted to twist and change the words of the god they supposedly believed in. With today's evidence some Christian scholars were forced to admit the word "begotten" is a fabrication. "Jesus never sinned but Mohammed was a sinner": according to the bible Jesus pbuh called a woman a dog and ignored her after she asked for herlp if not for a different man who urged him to help her and Jesus said he was only sent to the lost sheep of Israel in Matthew 15. Was Jesus the only one out of all the prophets in the bible that didn't commit sin? “There is no one who is righteous, not even one” (Romans 3:10). Isn't Jesus a human that needed food, drink, protection, and provision and was willing to commit a sin in Matthew 4 after satan was tempting him? Did he not insult and call a woman a dog? If Jesus was God, would satan dare to tempt God into making a sin? God in danger of doing a sin? Violence in christianity: Luke 12:47 "That slave who knew what his master wanted, but did not prepare himself or do what was wanted, will receive a severe beating." Exodus 21:20-21 “Anyone who beats their male or female slave with a rod must be punished if the slave dies as a direct result, but they are not to be punished if the slave recovers after a day or two, since the slave is their property.“ Numbers 31:17-18 “Now therefore, kill every male among the little ones, and kill every woman who has known man intimately. But all the girls who have not known man intimately, spare for yourselves.“ Leviticus 20:13 “If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them.“ Luke 19:27 "But as for these enemies of mine who did not want me to be king over them-bring them here and slaughter them in my presence." Deuteronomy 25:11-12 “When men fight with one another, and the wife of the one draws near to rescue her husband from the hand of him who is beating him, and puts out her hand and seizes him by the private parts, then you shall cut off her hand. Show her no pity.“ 2 Kings 2:23-25 “Elisha went up to Bethel. As he was walking along the road, some young boys came out of the town and jeered at him. "Get out of here, baldy!" they said. "Get out of here, baldy!" He turned around, looked at them and called down a curse on them in the name of the Lord. Then two bears came out of the woods and mauled forty-two of the boys (children).“ You should be terrified if god was really the author of the bible. 1 Samuel 15:3-4 God orders to kill a group of people and their infants and animals for a sin that was commited by their forefathers who died 400 years before..

Spencer the scientific Latin name for a rhino is rhinoceros unicornis. Rhino connotes nose and unicorn means one horn. Although the Bible also describes at least one having two horns. Quite a few do, especially among the cultures that sprang from the Indo-European language tree, but the creation story in the Bible doesn't, it's extremely simple in comparison reading more like an itinerary of events then a dramatic epic between chaos and order. With that in mind, mentioning the creation stories of other faiths seems quite disingenuous.

Random Jew here, I've done a bunch of research into Creatures of the Bible and just wanted to make some points... Unicorn: This is said to be an actual creature rather than a mythical one, it had multi-coloured skin (some say rainbow others say brown, red and blue) and one horn. Although it's shape isn't identified, we just kinda go with the horse thing. The last of the Unicorns were killed for their skins in around 1300BC. Behemoth: Other than the description in Job, we don't have much to go off of, the Hippo idea has been suggested by some, but others belive that it is actually a giant creature that will be killed for the Feast of Redemption (explained further down). The only other thing to go on is the name שור הבר 'Wild Bull' which gives us the massive cow idea. Leviathan: The Leviathan is described as more Whale-like rather than Serpentine. In Jewish legend all of the World's continents actually float on the ocean rather than being solid rock, and the Leviathan exists underneath the land. The Leviathan is chained to the bottom of the sea by G-d, because if it were able to move it would destroy the world simply through the water displament when it moves its fins. Every 40 years or so G-d let's then chains slack a bit and the Leviathan moves a bit, causing earthquakes and tsunami's. Fish willingly swim into it's mouth for it to feed. Both the Leviathan and Behemoth were created during the 6 Days of Creation with a mate, the Female of both was killed instantly as if these creatures were allowed to procreate, they would destroy the world. When the Jewish Messiah comes the Leviathan and Behemoth would do battle, killing each other in the process. We would then have the Feast of Redemption with the meat of these creatures, to celebrate the start of the Messianic Era. The name Leviathan comes from its Hebrew name לויתן (Liv-ya-than). Nephilim: As mentioned in the video, there are two main interpretations of Nephilim, Fallen Angels and Giants, however both of these beings actually exist in Jewish Legend so here goes... Fallen Angels: There are two main stories considering Fallen Angels, the first is with Adam, before Adam's mate Chavah was created the Demon Queen Lil!th (you're not meant to say/write her name 🤷‍♂️) had kids with Adam, these human/demon hybrids are known as Fallen Angels. I should mention that "Demons" in Jewish Legend isn't the same as in modern culture, all creations - even Satan - are just doing G-d will, it's just some of them have to do the dirty work, those are Demons (simple explanation, it's obviously a lot more complicated). The second story is around Noah's time, two Angels came to G-d and said "See, told you so, man are terrible, let us go down to Earth and show you how we are better then them". These two Angels - Shamchazai and Azael - came to Earth and immediately 'fell' and started sinning, as with Adam their offspring they had with Humans are Fallen Angels. Giants: All Humans were 'Giants' at the beginning of the world, and slowly shortened as time went on, however some individuals didn't shorten, such as Og, who was reportedly 3 meters tall AS AN INFANT. Some estimate his adult height as around 97m (200 cubits). Goliath from the famous David and Goliath story was one of the last of the Giants to exist, at an estimated 3 meters. Other creatures: Phoenix: The Phoenix was the only creature to not participate in the Sin of the Tree of Knowledge (Adam fed the fruit to all the creatures, something which is not often mentioned these days, the Phoenix refused) G-d granted the Phoenix eternal life, every 1000 years it makes a nest of Cinnamon sticks and lights it on fire, with him burning in the flames. A new egg emerged from the flames and out comes a baby Phoenix. Human/animals Hybrids: Creatures such as Centaurs, Minotaurs, Mermaids ect do exist in Jewish Legend, just not on this world (it's complicated) "365 kinds of Human Beasts exist, some half snake half human, some half lion half human. Some have the snake half on top and some the snake half on the bottom." Golem: Guess this kinda counts, some really powerful Rabbi's gathered different kinds of mud and shaped it as a human, after some special prayer (lost to time) and putting a paper with one of G-d's name in it's mouth, the Golem rose. The Golem isn't very intelligent and can only preform basic tasks but does so till told otherwise. It was tasked to protect the Jews of Prague, Poland and did so until no longer necessary. It had the Hebrew word for 'truth' on its forehead 'אמת'. The 'א' was removed to kill it, making the Hebrew word 'מת' 'death/dead'. This was WAY longer then it should of been 😅 but if you want more creatures from Jewish Legend let me know! 👌

Probably all ties to one of the most ancient stories of our species . A story so old it was in our collective consciousness or culture before our ancestors split off to colonize the entire planet, before the crossing of Bering land bridge . The idea that the role of a hero (or a god) or even more profoundly what constitutes goodness is contending with and sorting out primordial evil to benefit the whole of the world might be one of our oldest revelations . Jordan Peterson talks to great length about this in his biblical lectures - pretty interesting stuff .

In relation to the leviathan being a crocodile, the Saltwater croc in Asia and the Nile croc grew to staggering lengths and girths, in excess of nine metres. The breathing fire can be explained by the incredibly vile breath that the Saltwater croc is renowned. To describe the breath as death is not out of the realm of possibility and over repeated tellings the story could easily morphed into fire.

Exactly! With how many species that have gone extinct in just the past couple hundred years, it’s completely moronic to think that in the course of two thousand years we haven’t lost one or two creatures, creatures that we now consider myth. The Unicorn is known throughout many ancient civilizations, civilizations that we’re told had no communication with one another, so you’re telling me they all made the exact same mistake just by coincidence... then again that does sound like modern, mainstream archeology in a nutshell.

Look up videos of whales breaching and you'll see it's not hard to imagine sailors would mistake this gigantic smooth-skinned creature lurking just below the surface of the ocean. As far as the battle between a god and a leviathan, Job is thought to be one of the oldest books of the bible, perhaps even before Abraham, and by proxy predating some of the religions that have that battle.
