I don't know if you know this but the origin of the discord between Amber and Johnny was that from Aquaman Amber came to believe Johnny was an ancient one summon forth many moons ago. The took the trident to carve searching for scales. But I don't know I was looking at Captain Sparrow he is gaining the Innsmouth look. As if Elon Musk and Caitlin Jenner. Coincidence? Probably

I'm sure you've come to the conclusion that elden ring has taken a ton of inspiration from lovecraft too. This video has given a short explanation of the deep ones as i was trying to figure out where they fit in elden ring. The hybrid of deep one+human interestingly sound like the albinaurics, they can walk but when they get older they have to crawl on all fours, the second generation are likened to frogs like these are. they came from the nox who are underground (underwater for deep ones) originally from above ground but were sent underground now near where miquella sleeps, just like cthulu, with a cult worshipping him not understanding his purpose just like cthulu does. There is even more but I'll just stop there, since this is necro-posting

Bishop Gale Actually, Del Toro was obsessed with The Creature from the Black Lagoon as a child, and he would use it as inspiration for a lot of his work. The whole reason he made ‘The Shape of Water’ was because he wanted to see a movie where the creature got the girl in the end, which he wanted to see as a kid.

@Srab23

I think the magic is not supernatural, but to them a natural science produced by their highly evolved biology and scientific understanding of the universe. I think that even the geometry in their architecture is so advanced that it makes brick structures bend time and space, or something along those lines. I think this applies to Dagon as well. With strange eons even death may die, and perhaps Dagon has changed into something more than a deep one.

Hey, it's October again, and I was wondering if you'll add to the Lovecraft mythos? How about something about The Mounds? The time travel creepiness in that story reminds me of a dream within a dream kind of thing. The Mound is also a good story to focus on if you wish to discuss Lovecraft's xenophobia and racism, which I think was the real inspiration for Lovecraft's particular brand of horror. Anyway, the Mounds in the USA were discovered to be older than people realized humanity could've existed... older than the church! Lovecraft was able to seize that sort of mind-bending pop-science and turn it into The Mound.

We don't know their end game, but the fact that they are keeping and possibly breeding shoggoths means nothing good for human kind. But some don't follow the master plan, like Asenath Waite. (Ephraim Waite, spoiler)

C.H.U.D. was the closest to an attempt to go there without backstory (IE trying to cut out Lovecraft, imho) so it was just a rubber monster movie. But Dagon did a pretty good job of it

The 2001 movie Dagon (directed by Stuart Gordon) is loosely based on The Shadow Over Innsmouth.

I would like to humbly make one correction. In the story obed Marsh is stated as having no intentions of handing over his daughters to the deep ones to conceive as it was agreed upon. Even after his passing, it is said that women are the ones the deep ones breed with and not males to female deep ones. The protagonist also states this by mentioning the peculiar look of a woman on his cousins side of the family. His uncle locking his cousin in a asylum due to the deformities which are actually the transformation occurring within him.

Well the movie was written and directed by Guillermo del Toro who is a fan of lovecraft's work so I wouldn't be surprised if it was inspired in some way by the deep ones.
