I adored listening to this trilogy on audio. N.K. Jemisin writes such amazing books, and Robin Miles is the queen of all things narration.

I generally listen to audiobooks as a last resort because I’m often annoyed with the performances, but my goodness Robin Miles is an amazing compliment to these remarkable books.

I loved these books, such great writing and the performance gave it life I didn't expect. Memorable in so many ways, I honestly couldn't hear enough of the way Robin brought these characters to life with her voice.

Ah god I was so satisfied at the end of this trilogy (and bereft it was over), and I had no idea I could be a fan of an audiobook narrator until I listened to these, so good. Also fuck yeah Tonkee. Hard to pick favourites but I think she and Hoa are at the top of the pile.

Robin is just the best. Just about 40% through my first book of the Broken Earth Trilogy. Really good. Really really engaging.

I have not read Ms. Jemisin's novels. But I intend to this coming fall. I have a feeling these books are literature! There must be something great when an author wins the most prestigious award in SciFi-Fantasy on the planet 3 years in a row.

Thanks for these books! I just finished listening to Caste before listening to the Broken Earth series. I hadn’t looked to see who the narrator was before I started and had no idea that the subject matter of Broken Earth touched on many of the themes of caste systems. I instantly recognized the narrator, especially since the beginning of Caste talked about caste systems in geological terms. The surprise of having the same narrator and similar subject matter between two well written books, one a historical account of our world, the other a fantasy of a new world was powerful.

Robin Miles could read the phone book and I'd be like, "Man, that hit hard."

I loved the Fifth Season and I can't wait to read the rest! I have one story in 2nd person and I work-shopped it heavily to make sure it was the right decision. My writing group agreed it just couldn't be done any other way. It might turn some people off, but what are you gonna do?

Honestly, the second-person narration is what almost made me DNF the first book. Everything else about those books is great in its creativity and originality. But, boy, that second-person was sure grinding my gears and I don't think it was worth the 'twist' it was used for. I think Jemisin used it much more fittingly in her short story Emergency Skin that is part of the Forward Collection. In The Fifth Season it felt out of place and made it hard for me to latch onto the story or care about it in those chapters, which isn't particularly helpful in a book that already is quite complex and unusual. Another good example of second-person done well is Paul Tremblay's The Last Conversation, which is also part of Blake Crouch's Forward Collection.

Did you also get an award for being an internet bully on twitter? I particularly liked your non-apology apology, top tier fiction right there.

@@apurvaparkhi sure! I kinda am, but these books still blow donkey chunks. They are four different kinds of bad. People who like them are stupid. The author is a bad person.
