N scale! Good luck getting anything done. It's not always so easy when working with the smaller scales.

NICE VIDIO, haven't seen that frame before, thanks for showing it, like the design but looks to really depend on very small contact points but looks like it was a good runner anyway....thanks for sharing....Jack & happy THANKSGIVING

I beg to differ on this particular design. I have a lot of Kato locos and the problem with this design is the contact strips. If you do any maintenance, which obviously you will need to be over time, you have to get those strips placed back perfectly and don't bend them otherwise, contact will be lost between the truck tab and the strip causing stalls. In fact, Kato has since redesigned the holster to include an additional tab that holds the strip in place. I have run into issues with this particular model. In many of their newer locos, Kato went back to the strips on the bottom. Unfortunately Kato USA has not made this newer part available to retrofit the older locos.

I don't own a Kato E8 but thanks for letting me know what's inside these guys -- it appears to be an excellent design that's easy to service.

You always mention that you don't lubricate only the shafts, there are moving parts on the model as the worm gears in the truck towers and the gears inside the trucks, those need vaseline or grease in order to keep the models from locking up

Would I be able to remove the trucks without removing anything else beforehand, out would I need to remove the shell and those plastic tabs?

When you mentioned that you used a RAPIDO coupler for the back trailing track/bogie, I want to mention that is the name of the coupler that was invented in the late 1960s by the European company ARNOLD used for their N scale models, not to be confused with the name ARNOLD the Canadian company that manufactures HO scale models manufactured in China

@watchtrainshere81275 жыл бұрын
I did not touch them, I used the flywheels from the replacement motor.

There is a tool on the market that removes gears and flywheels manufactured by North West Short Line. I am not sure if the company is still in business
