Plowing time again! This storm dumped only 4 to 6 inches of loose powder on the ground, which turned out to be only a little more trouble than I expected.

I am happy! The lonely tankcar is not alone anymore! Thanks for showing him and not flying by it as often happens.

I always enjoy seeing the Mill Brook in action and especially bucking snow. The pilot plow is a nice piece of equipment but watching the Russell hitting the big stuff is really great! The creative new camera angles are cool too.

Really like your snow plow. I love watching the wings push the snow away from the rails. My husband and I live in Ohio, too bad we don't live closer. We would come help you with the tie replacement. Have a great weekend.

looks like you need to rig up some scrapper blades for the wheels to keep the ice from building up on them.

Canadian Pacific Railway used to have a Russell snow plow you can see one at the Railway Museum in Herbert Saskatchewan. One of the wedge snow plow the front sides is blocked off for Mainline double-track plowing so does it snow only falls into one side. Then they only use One Wing blade. That would solve your problem with dumping snow on to your passing tracks

Construct some brackets the would attach a scraper or brushes that would keep the ice and snow buildup off the wheels. That should solve the derail problem due to snow and ice build up.

I've been meaning to do that. I just haven't gotten it done yet. Hopefully, I'll get it done this summer.

add ballast to the pivot assembly so that the ballast not only presses on the body, but presses on the wagon bogie, allowing it to cut through dense snow ...

the combination of the 2 plows does a great job moving the snow, the pilot one really digs out the material between the rails. while the bat wing pushes it out. So Aaron was management in where it is warm? Mr. Batcat was not taking care of business! nice video, with only one misshape.

Have you tried spraying the wheels and bogies with silicon spray? The snow sticks and everything rolls better. I use silicon spray on the draft of my snow blower and never have a blockage in the exhaust. Also use silicon spray on the draft from my digital printing press - works great.

Silicon lubricant spray? On the wheels? That might affect traction.

I think your wing plow needs to bulk up a bit. 12lbs of lead per axle and you might not be loading up so much and it might bucket a heavier snow better too. You did say something about a breeze lead would sove that problem too. Lol But I live in Arkansas what do I know about snow. Lol either way a thought to consider.

That small blade is most effective, too bad you didn't run that first as it may have taken more ice from the rails. It's easy to make a case either way.

I'll have more track work videos, for sure. I'll also visit other railroads. Hopefully, I'll also have roadbed construction videos as well. My goal for this year is to have the Brook Road sub down to where all the logs and trees are tangled up and to have the track on the other end connected to the tracks in the basement of the house. That's in addition to replacing two switches at the top of the hill and replacing a bunch of ties.

That went quite well. I still think adding about 40 lbs to the front truck area of the wing plow would help keep the lead truck on the rails while plowing, about a 4" solid concrete block or so. Waxing the blades of the plows would keep snow from sticking too. I would avoid silicone, since it is so difficult to remove if you should ever want to. Wax comes off easily using paint thinner. I put Johnsons Paste Wax on my snow shovels, and even the sticky wet snow slides off easily, but a fresh coat of wax is needed after each snow fall.
@MillBrookRailroad
@MillBrookRailroad Жыл бұрын
Weight makes the plow harder to push and an extra 40 pounds doesn't prevent ice from building up on the wheels.

You should get a piece of rain gutter to run your cars charger cord in. That should cut down on the chances of hanging yourself on said cord.

The plan is to move the EVSE equipment to a post on the right side of the tracks. I don't know how soon it'll happen, but that's then plan.

Yep...you should get rid of plows and "use" Jonathan instead ! You´ll lower your electric bill, avoid heavy locos abuse and rails slipping wear. With a couple peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, Jonathan can work hours in fluffy or wet heavy snow. No more embarassing derailment ! And for a joy ride, you can always sit on its shoulders making videos while he´s plowing !! In railroad service, plows last many decades. Jonathan being young and fresh can last a good forty years, and summer works too. Just buy a few tons of peanut butter...and jelly....
