Billie Eilish FLUTTER VOCAL EFFECT in Ableton Live

This is my rough approximation of the vocal effect head in Billie Eilish's Bad Guy (and a few of her other songs). It's that fluttery/tremolo effect you hear in the chorus. I'm using a tremolo and some redux/bit crusher plugins in Ableton Live. It's probably not 100% accurate but it's a fun experiment that can lead you down different creative directions.

It’s always inspiring when people use effects in a way that they were not intended for, like you did here with the AutoPan. I tend to use an LFO effect (Max for Live) with Depth at 50% and Offset at -50% modulating the Gain of an Utility effect to get a tremolo effect. (Group these two and save them as Tremolo effect for later re-use.) And then I use either automation or maybe another LFO modulating the rate of the first LFO to add some movement to the tremolo.

You can get it with the Frecuency Shifter too, I did it a few times.

I think they used the warp modes for both tremolo and distortion for this effect but this works really good

I would never have thought to use a panner to achieve a tremolo effect! I would have just used an LFO to affect the volume. Wouldn't that do the same thing?

I used ring modulation instead of tremolo and OTT instead of distortion.

Nice approach, and I never thought of using the auto panner as a tremolo effect. I think another way of getting this effect is to use a grain delay.

@@angeloxboss That's a preset on frequency shifter, he meant a tremolo plugin. Yeah, you can definitely tremolo with ring modulation, tremolo is still not a plugin. There is no tremolo plugin. Auto pan does work as a fully functional tremolo, cleaner than a ring mod as well.
