Update
It was the coolant line for the rear turbo their known the fail.
*A good sign it’s starting to happen before the leak Is noticeable is you’ll start to smell the horrible coolant burning your nose smell*😂
Any shop would most likely charge you minimum 400 just to replace the broken line. I Recommend going with the full turbo coolant line kit and spending a little more.
If you want to do it yourself it’s not that bad of a job and if you have the money I’d recommend upgrading them turbos while you’re at it one less thing to worry about in the future.

I replaced both turbos and all of the lines then threw in an upgraded PCV valve & charge pipe just for grins and giggles. Though everything is good again, you better believe I’m rolling with a gallon of coolant in the trunk 😆

I remember once sticking a customers 335i on on the 4 poster ramp while it was running just to check some bushes. I locked up directly under the under tray and got dribbled on by boiling hot coolant. Learnt my lesson on that one for sure. Defo didn’t like swapping the pump out on it either

If it’s an N54, it’s the turbos and lines. My reservoir wouldn’t hold anything either and that’s when I killed the engine and towed her in. I know this feeling all too well. 😅

@@carlosbortoni2898check your radiator, coolant expansion tank, upper radiator hose, in fact all of your hoses while your at it, then check your oil filter housing.

My leak is from the Auto Trans oil cooler return hose. My mhd code reader says 2E81 which I'd something for the electric water pump but I'm hoping it's only the hose for $25 vs the pump at $400 plus labor🥴

Funny how no one in the comments knows anything ab n54😢 it’s clearly coming from the hose that connects to to the water pump and thermostat it’s probably like 20 bucks also. No way would a turbo coolant line leak like that 😭.

What side of the car is that on? If it’s the exhaust side it could be, water pump, turbos and or some lines that could of gotten heated then melted. (Happened to me when I placed the fan back in a lil wrong and pushed the coolant hose going to the trans cooler towards the belt)

It was the turbo coolant lines. I believe the Lower radiator hose is located closer to the front of the car.

Coolant can be Orange, Green, Blue and pink. The colors can indicate what additives it has.

It’s the turbo coolant line their known to go bad. I haven’t had mine fixed yet but if you’re going to be replacing it I recommend the full kit so you don’t run into the same issue on the other turbo that isn’t leaking.
