In US news and current events today, the inventor of the N95 masks is coming out of retirement to help develop a method to sterilize the masks. Peter Tsai is a material scientist and engineer who, nearly 30 years ago, developed the filtration tech used in N95 masks. Though he retired from his post at the University of Tennessee in 2019, Tsai is getting back to work to help find a way to safely disinfect N95 masks. N95 masks are
in short supply because of the coronavirus pandemic. Some hospitals have reportedly resorted to cleaning N95 masks with soapy water, bleach, or alcohol. But experts warn against these methods because they could damage the masks. Tsai says he’s studying if exposure to heat can decontaminate N95s.

Turns out most cars/trucks include a UV chamber that you can use to disinfect your masks. The dashboard while parked in the sun.

technosaurus UVC is best for killing viruses. UVC is blocked by the ozone layer and has to be artificially produced by lamps.

@Prophet Muhamed babe he is addressing the shortage by testing methods to help increase reusability and "lifespan" of the mask itself without compromising its effectiveness. He IS helping by addressing the shortage. What this ONE man is doing is helping to save our front line workers and health professionals by giving them a method so THEY CAN PROTECT THEMSELVES .

@@pilsung26 Bleach (as well as other oxidizing agents) destroys the fabric through oxidation of the organic fabric polymers, while 70 degrees of heat for 24h does not, since this kind of polymer can withstand 100+ degrees, but this heat is well enough for denature the protein outer layer of virus and germs. I know the true reason he is coming out of retirement: He is bored! My grandfather retired three times. He only stayed retired for less than 3 months the first two times. His last retirement has been the longest at a decade and more permanent. Of course, he still does all his own home repair work.
