Thanks for watching! Yes, I agree that maintenance is a very important part of car ownership. Especially older vehicles like these.

For anyone wondering in the UK, I ended up with Comma Super Coldmaster for the anti-freeze. It doesn't mention if it is silicate free, but usually anti-freeze likes to boast that it has silicates so I presume this means it is silicate free, and it is non-OAT. As long as it is indeed silicate free, then that ticks both the boxes. Been a right bitch to find the right anti-freeze for an NA MX5 but this anti-freeze is sold for usage with mx5s from the 90s on two mx5 specialist websites so it should be good.

Hello everyone, I need help. I have mx5 NC 2006, I recently added coolant into the reservoir (when it was cold), yesterday I found out that the temperature was increasing (but not overheat), because it had never happened before that the pointer of the temperature on the dashboard get to the middle.... it was always lower the middle. So please help me😢 because I don't know if my car has the bleed screw, or not. Because I saw some videos which they told I must open the cap, run the engine, waiting for thermostat operation and so I will get rid of the air bubbles. I am confused. .. I don't know what should I do. Thank you a million.

You bought the right coolant, that coolant is what is known as a P-OAT coolant ( Phosphated Organic Acid Technology ) most Asian cars use it. The Japanese manufacturers claim Silicates are bad for aluminium and bad for water pumps, but European manufacturers like VW and Audi say the exact opposite, i've looked into it and i have to agree with VW on that. What you really must never use is the conventional green like Prestone, it contaisn somethign called Borates which is good for cast iron but corrosive to Aluminium.

Old Fords Don't die thanks for sharing. The type that I keep hearing that you should never use is dex cool - unless you have a car designed to use it.

@@BecauseMiata Dexcool is similar to Volkseagen G12, both have the same problem that when mixed with traditional green coolant it turns into sludge, VW updated their coolants so it would not do that when mixed but GM did not.

You added while the car is running? Also, you can Jack up near the designated Jack point?

Hi i was wondering if I can buy the one that’s already mixed. they have that one and the one u have to mix on your own.
@BecauseMiata
@BecauseMiata 4 жыл бұрын
Hi there. You can use either one. From what I've seen, the pre-mixed 50/50 costs more per volume of coolant. So if you buy a gallon jug of 100%, and a gallon jug of 50/50...you can make the 100% last longer because you can now make 2 gallons of 50/50 with it. Make sense? The bottom line is that you can use either one. The premixed one costs more though.

The bp engine was developed by ford. What specifically about the pump causes this problem? I need to know if im using the wrong stuff!
@BecauseMiata
@BecauseMiata 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the question. To the best of my understanding, the Asian formula of antifreeze use phosphates to protect against corrosion and pitting of the water pump impeller. Other types of coolants use silicates which can cause the small pitting inside the pump - mostly on the impeller. A lot of coolants are color-coded...some blue, some green, some red. From the factory, the Miata coolant is green...it matches the Asian formula that I used. If you're in doubt, it doesn't hurt to call your local Mazda dealer/service shop to ask for their recommendation.

I went to napa today and they gave me almost this? they gave me "pentofrost A3, Asian Blue?" it looks just like this but it's blue? what gives, did they give me the wrong stuff?
@BecauseMiata

Sheep Dog69 to be honest, I’m not sure what the chemical differences are between the two, but mine is the Pentofrost A2 (Green), and it specifically says on the front that it’s for 1990 and up Mazda.

@@BecauseMiata I think i'm gonna take it back tomorrow and exchange it for the A2, I just got my miata 2 days ago, it's a super clean 2000 1.8L with a soft top and the torsen LSD, its only got 120k miles on it and it was a one owner vehicle, the guy who sold it was 75. i noticed the overflow was totally empty so i wanted to just do a coolant flush and refill it just to make sure nothing everythings good, because once i noticed that was empty i looked in the radiator and it was so clear i'm almost positive it was just water lol.. so far i'm loving this car you can turn so sharp and fast its awesome, its not screaming fast, but this little car can scoot haha.

Sheep Dog69 sounds like you got a great deal; congrats. You’re doing the right thing by taking care of maintenance first. Oil change would be next and inspect the air filter. Later on you can change the fuel filter. Any idea how old the timing belt is? If it’s the original, it should be changed as well. Have fun! 😎

you really used regular water......... youve gotta used distilled.
@BecauseMiata
@BecauseMiata 6 жыл бұрын
David Yeritsyan Thanks for watching. I used the garden hose to use pressure to loosen up any sediment inside before I did the chemical flush. The final flushes were all distilled water, as seen at 13:58 of this video. But you’re right, all distilled water would be ideal. The tap water didn’t sit in the engine long enough to form deposits of sediment, so I’m confident that the chemical flush did its job and removed the hard water. Good observation though, and thanks again for watching!

For fucks sake it's a 20 year old car. You could run it on brake fluid if you ran out of gas.
