Dune: Prophecy is an upcoming American science fiction television series set in the Dune universe created by Frank Herbert, for the streaming service Max. Focusing on the origins of the Bene Gesserit, an exclusive and powerful sisterhood who undergo intense physical training and mental conditioning to obtain superhuman abilities, it takes place approximately 10,000 years before the events of Herbert's novel Dune (1965) and serves as a prequel to Denis Villeneuve's Dune (2021). The series is produced by Legendary Television, with Alison Schapker serving as showrunner, writer, and executive producer.
During Legendary Entertainment's 2016 acquisition of television and film rights for the Dune franchise, they began development of a two-part film adaptation with Villeneuve serving as director by 2017. Legendary Television ordered the series in 2019, being a spin-off project from Villeneuve's films. Various creative figures have joined by 2019, and following creative overhauls, Schapker became the show-runner with Anna Foerster serving as director for multiple episodes by June 2023. Meanwhile, casting took place from November 2022 to June 2023. Filming began by November 2022 in Budapest and Jordan and wrapped by December 2023.
It is scheduled to premiere on Max in late 2024.

Just to note, 10,000 years before the events of Dune is still about 11,000 years in the future from our time.

Paul Atreides is NOT Luke Skywalker. Not even in the same ballpark, barely even comparable. Also, how the hell can anyone say that Zendaya "didn't have enough to do" in Dune Part 2? Her character in particular was elevated from the original novel.

This show appears to be based on the book "Sisterhood of Dune", which is part of Brian Herbert's Dune prequel series.

well, there's 26 books, and i think they're still being written. i would assume this isn't HBO making up new lore, but just adapting backstory that already exists in the prequel books. the only one of those that i've read is House Corrino tho, so 💁‍♀️

really interested to see if the show depicts the Butlerian Jihad (war against computers/robots). one of the most economical choices Denis made was to not get into that. but it's very compelling and foundational to the universe; all the meat is left on that bone for further filmic Dune material. it being set 10k years prior has me thinking this will be just after the Jihad mostly succeeds, and humans are beginning their new institutions? would be great to see all the super weird stuff left out of the movies used here.

Funnily enough, Chani had quite a bit more character in the movie than the book 😅 Wondering how they’ll take her into the next bit of the story in the next movie.

Looks sadly as I feared, a cheap tv version of dune. Some of the shots in this trailer are truly sub par and would’ve looked out of place on the cinema screen while watching one of the dune features, and this is the trailer I can only imagine how low the bar will sink during the actual series. Here’s hoping I couldn’t be more wrong

I think it's great because this story is supposed to take place very far in the past, so it makes sense that it looks cheap.

The older Dune tv shows looks more cheaper though.
