Hi! What if they don't like my art? Will I still get paid for my time? Also if I'm doing digital art, how do I give it to them and make sure they don't claim it as their own? I just want to do commissions of characters weather they're ocs or characters that are from games and anime. I also want to start my own KZfaq sometime soon, but I'd like to do art commissions too.

As someone who has commissioned dozens of pieces of art here is one piece of advice. Take every commission seriously and communicate clearly. Let me give you an example. I dipped my toe in trying out various artists. Who got the repeat business? The one who gave me a clear timeline and achieved those goals. They were not the cheapest or the fastest or even the most high profile, they demonstrated they cared and I felt like I was there top priority. I was so impressed I went back to them and received the same excellent service. So I went back, and back, and back. Every single time she delivered terrific art at a fair price in relatively timely fashion. Sometimes there was a queue and had to wait which was relayed to me. One time she got sick. This was always explained in clear, honest matter. The lesson? Attracting new commissions can be hard at no fault of your own. There are thousands of artists and can get lost in the shuffle. Making commissions happy and potentially getting multiple repeat business is within your power. Serious commissions will happily pay extra to have a great experience.

I wouldnt complain about that to someone but what other way can anyonr know if their pricing is not right without being rude? Or a polite way to ask someone why their pricing is like that (maybe curiosity and usually I'll understand the reason why after explanation) for me if I really did overprice something, I'd like to know but how to do so in a polite way
@maysama2618
@maysama2618 4 жыл бұрын
@@kittenmimi5326 usually you price by the time it takes you to draw it by the minimum wage (or higher depending on how much you want to get paid an hour) but if you're popular and more in demand some will boost the price. that's fine and expected. if you follow that formula you'll have a fair price. the boosting the price on popularity is something harder as you'll only tell if its right if people are still paying for your art and see it as worth the price.

@@pogz1 just giving a quick look at your thumbnails (didn’t watch any videos) seems like you lack the understanding of the fundamentals. Instead of jumping into finished pieces, try to understand how to draw 3D objects and how to draw them in different angles. When you draw, you’re trying to trick the eye into thinking that what it’s seeing is 3D. So when you put lighting on something you understand where to put the light because you know which planes of the 3D object is facing your light source. I know that sounds confusing so you should look up videos about it. You also try to jump into color without understanding it which leads

@TheWorldPillow
@TheWorldPillow 3 жыл бұрын
@@novaexx6587 This is much late, but since the other person didn't reply, I'm guessing they mean clients who aren't serious, don't hold up to the end of their deal -- basically, they don't pay you. You might want to do a 50-50 payment system, where they pay 50% upfront and give the final 50% when you give them your final work (once you establish a rep, you might be able to get the payment upfront; if you have no rep you might have to ask for it later -- these are all good causes for also using a trustable third-party system who can verify the trust of your transaction, so you can worry less about these details). Or, if you're young, it's also a concern to keep personal details out of the way when going on a less formal place like Reddit where anyone can say anything and it's very easy to access and find. Being careful means to take some caution in vetting out the other person, their seriousness about purchasing your art, what they're really about and their intentions (if they start asking personal details, that could be a flag), and stuff like that. But mostly, I think, it's about the money. Odds are if you get serious about taking commissions, you'll run into trouble with payments at some point. If you don't put too much money into the deals, though, it could be very good learning experience for starting out especially, so that you can learn how to calmly and reasonably deal with more difficult people or people who are having a bad day.

You are indeed really sweet ❤️ it was mostly to break down my prices because a lot of people don't think about the fact, that you can rarely put 100% of the price down in your own pocket. But I agree, I shouldn't need to defend my prices :3 (even if I do so a little here too) but I find myself doing it too often nontheless xD its sad that almost all commissions posts I see on IG has comments turned off because there always are those few ranting over the pricing >

CRYBABY If you consider the time spent on the actual piece (12+ hours), all the meetings with the clients to get the result they want (2+ hours), all the materials used (either traditional art materials like brushes, colors and so on. Or with digital art you have to buy a graphic tablet, pay for drawing programs, licenses like the photoshop license that is expensive), all the time you spent to achieve the skill of creating quality artworks (many many years of practice) and the taxes you have to pay.... then 175$ is not alot, it‘s not even near to minimum wage.

I'm trying to get to that point again but, better. It's been years and I lost a lot of views from it. Deviant art is where I did my stuff and things are changing now. New stuff and new generation. I seen art that wasn't that high performance and still got paid well. You can find your own crowd and people like anywhere. I feel that way. Sometimes I fool myself and think I couldn't find anyone but, that's the trick your telling yourself that. Encouragement is key.

As someone who's sold dozens of artwork that took months of work for 10 bucks, or less- the pricing part is really important. Do NOT do what I did. Please don't sell yourself short, your work and your time that you took out of your normal work day or school day should be refunded. They're commissioning you, they agree to your price range. Give yourself some credit for your work man !!
