I feel like it might’ve helped. If she remembered the year she had given, then it would be a bit more obvious that it’s her actual birthday. Since she forgot the year she gave, it made it seem like the year she gave couldn’t have been her real birthday, since she should remember that even if she lied.

I believe when she audition, they never clarified that. She had to be 18 to dissipate, so it was the companies fault. For not make it clear for the contestant, before they can dissipate. So this was not Nadine fault.

They probably knew but went along with it for entertainment. That's why they let her into the UK band

They did and she later accused them of exploiting her. At least things worked out for in the end as she went on to have huge success with Girls Aloud

I mean whenever the band travelled abroad someone would have clocked her age from her passport and reported her or even for identification purposes for anything really. Im just surprised she got as far as she did without getting caught. How the bands management didn't ask for any form of ID up until this point is beyond me. They were just as much to blame too for not following standard procedures

I’ve met and spoken to Nadine a few times. She’s really pleasant and is considerate to her fans. You’ll struggle to meet a celeb so caring.

I agree it's wrong and potentially dangerous to encourage your underage daughter to lie in that situation but on the other hand they probably saw this as her one and only chance to achieve her dream. Isk exactly when this was but im guessing 2002 ish? You couldn't just put a singing video online then and gain a following that way

Nadine has always been a very talented singer; no harm was done by a white lie and to me this demonstrates her sheer guts and determination to compete and do what she always wanted.

At 16 years old, she isn't going to going to have the courage to face what she's done, especially in this crazy situation. Her parents should have discouraged her from doing this at all. Surely down the road when this aired, someone who knows her would've told the truth. Her dealing with it alone like that was probably a massive growing up moment for her, hopefully. My son is 16 now and I cannot even imagine him doing this, and me just letting him go off to do it.

@@Bette_Fontenot at 16, Nadine showed remarkable determination and courage; I don’t think I’d have had the confidence to enter such a competition and do what she did. A credit to her, if anyone is to blame, it’s the producers. Maybe I’ll upload a bit more of the programme when she and her parents were interviewed. Nadine will never live this down. I’ve met her quite a few times and have had selfies with her, she’s really kind with a lovely character.

@@jpptubie, I agree. I was speaking to having courage to admit to what she's done - especially when adults are confronting her like that. She had amazing courage to follow her dreams, taking any risk to achieve them. I just remember being 16 and thinking getting caught lying, even over something small, seemed like the worst possible thing. No doubt she was scared in her situation. I wasn't taking any kind of swipe at Nadine at all, I was actually trying to defend her - at her age she wouldn't have known how to appropriately handle a situation like that, it would have probably scared her.

I remember Javine, Emma and Aimee in particular who were great singers too and any of those could have made it into the group. But the voting was stronger for the five who made it because they had more supporters and I very satisfied with the final selection. I don’t recall any controversy over Nadine who was selected third for a place she well deserved based on her singing performance and character.

Have you never claimed to be over 18 to get into an ever you shouldn’t or have you ever claimed to be under 12/14 to get cheaper rates? What Nadine did demonstrated confidence and a competitive streak that has helped her. If anyone is to blame, it’s the producers who should have verified the ages of all competitors. @@jpptubie yes I remember watching the show and her getting the place. Was never a fan, found them manufactured and a rip off of The Spice Girls, who were also manufactured, but were original when they came out. All Saints were the best though.

First of all, she didn’t lie when she first entered the addition round. It was only later she finds out that, she has to be 18 to be in the group. Than she decided to keep on the lies, before she was found or rattled herself out. Also and I doubt the Irish group Popstar version, would have made it big anyway. What they put out was shocking and never became successful after that.

She was bold and determined and the producers should have checked DoB. Have you never told a white lie in your life? I’ve spoken to Nadine a few times and she’s one of the most caring and pleasant ladies I’ve ever met.
