Exactly!! Yes!! I stopped going to the nail salons near me because they DESTROY the natural nail!! Also, apex? C-curve? What’s that? Don’t know her! I do my own- when I have time. No worries, I went to cosmetology school and spent my Saturdays with the nail techs.

Would you ever just use a file to buff away shine? I still just feel like that is still too much buffing happening. like I have said before my nails are just so sensitive.

using a hand file or buffer also works just fine, as long as ppl are careful not to apply pressure. with a hand file some ppl get used to applying pressure, which will cause more damage. i buff mine manually and nails hold just fine with barely anything taken off. for a nail tech, using the e file as much as possible is safest to avoid carpal tunnel and other related long-term damage to the hand and wrist.

Hey Suzie. Appreciate your content!❤ I'm just beginning my journey of gel polish & nails. I just got my first hard /builder gel kit to help me with my natural nails. Also just bought some nail extensions to try that out too. Waiting for my 1st real e file (a Melody Suzie) 🤗 to come as well but I'm low-key terrified of using it & hurting myself/causing damage!! 😰I'm such a noob! I don't even get my nails done at a salon! I normally just enjoy painting my own natural nails & doing nail Art but I need lots more practice!! Coz honestly I'm not very good with any of this 😂 Appreciate any suggestions/tips you & anyone really familiar with this stuff has! 🙏🏼 Tyia 😘

Hey! I've binged SO MANY of your videos & I just received my first hybrid gel kit (Beetles). I was SO excited to give it a go, then I started seeing everywhere (it seems) how people have had allergic reactions to hybrid gel. I've searched, many times, if it's possible to do some kind of a patch test but haven't been happy with the results.. there is just nothing online that talks about testing for an allergy, its just all or nothing. My question is, what do YOU recommend? I know I'm not allergic to acrylic, does that mean I should be ok? I wish I would've thought to comment sooner, your like a trusted friend & I'd take your advice over a Google search any day!

It seems like people are getting allergic to these things because they or their techs put, cure the product on a skin.

Heya, thought I'd chime in. So there's a lot of information and science behind it, and I've recently become obsessed, fallen down the rabbit hole and basically scared myself, haha. To synopsize, the most risky, allergenic component in nail products are the HEMAs (hydroxyethlymethacrylate). Depending on how unstable the formula and how small the molecules are, the more likely they are to penetrate the skin barrier and trigger an immune response, and once you have an allergy, it is almost definitely permanent. The goal is to minimize how much HEMA you absorb. Find nail products with larger, more complex HEMAs that are harder to get into the skin. Straight HEMA has a very small molecular size and can more readily seep into the skin. Then you have Di-HEMA which has a larger size, and has lower risk. Then the more expensive Bis-HEMA which are pre-encapsulated HEMA molecules that are large, complex, low risk and it's hard for it to get into the skin. But it's very expensive! It's literally 10x the price to produce. So I would recommend Bis-HEMA for DIYers, along with a safety protocol to minimize risk. IF you are going to do nails from home, I implore anyone to do the following: - Find more complex, larger HEMA and avoid high concentrations of straight HEMA. Don't trust cheap Chinese products, even if it displays the ingredients. It is often false information. If you look at a product, either look on the site or Google it's MSDS or SDS (Safety Data Sheet - same thing as MSDS, just different names). This will give you the exact concentration of ingredients in the product. Any concentration of pure HEMA above 15% is higher risk, but in a perfect world, there would be no straight HEMA, in favor of larger HEMAs such as Di-HEMA or Bis-HEMA. If the company won't give you an SDS sheet, don't trust them. They should be open, transparent, and ready to give you info. - You MUST get a professional lamp. I know this is a real bummer. I've unfortunately been using a cheapo Amazon lamp, and I've only just realized the risk. Wattage is NOT a good measure of a lamp - it doesn't at all determine the potency or wavelength of light. In order for a product to fully and safely cure (it only takes a 50% cure to harden and look beautiful), a lamp needs to be high grade and sturdy. Either use the lamp specifically designed for the product or use the best, most powerful lamp you can find on the market to ensure that it can properly cure most products. A product must be at least 70% cured MINIMUM to be safe. If it's not fully cured, you still have these free-roaming molecules that can leech out of the nail and contaminate the skin. - If you're using color, use thin coats. Seriously. Don't do thick, viscous coats where the light can't properly penetrate. - Protect your skin from the dust from filing. I wear long sleeves and use a nail dust vacuum. - Wear a mask to avoid inhaling the product. - Use NITRILE gloves - not vinyl, not latex, but nitrile, medical-grade gloves. These HEMAs can permeate some gloves, so nitrile is important. - Cure for 60 seconds, REGARDLESS of what the brand says. A reputable chemist tested the cure of many products and has not found a single one, even of professional quality, to be sufficiently cured in under 60 seconds. Many brands will tell you that you can cure for 40, 30 or even 20(?!) seconds. Do not trust this. 60, minimum. - And most importantly, apply carefully and avoid getting it on the skin. I would recommend checking out The Nail Hub on KZfaq. She is fantastic and will tell you ALL you need to know. The Nail Hub website will also recommend products. What I recommend is IBD gel (not perfect at all, but lower risk and SO much cheaper than these very complex formulas that are literally like 20x the price) and I'd recommend the Kokoist Infinity Lamp. Yes, it's an investment, but you only need to buy it once! It's like $200, but after that, you know you're safe, and you don't need to replace it. Given everything I've discovered, I may actually do a video about this in the future.

@@briannab4770 This was incredibly helpful! I had just got the Beetles kit to start, like so many others I didn't want to overspend unless it was something I thought I could actually do. (It came with EVERYTHING, efile & light to cure, cheap). I have to say, I did it. And it was wonderful finally having nails again! I think I learned something from each nail lol. But, practice makes perfect, the real test the next set! I've been looking into better products since I finished the first time. I never thought about the light quality, that I will have to look into as well. I just want to thank you for your reply, this was so nice of you to do! I was nervous to try, luckily it worked out for me. But I will probably invest in better quality everything, for sure. Thanks so much for your recommendations!

@MadamAngelHeart

Generally it is if you want your nails to last a while. You wanna make the surface a little rough so the products can grip better. How you prep can make or break the manicure.
@briannab4770
@briannab4770 Жыл бұрын
I'll say this: If I don't prep the cuticles and the nail before enhancement, they will literally pop clean off in days. If I do the necessary prep, they will literally never come off, and would last months if I left them (I removed a set after 3 months recently, haha). The cuticle area develops a sticky, protein build up that products will NOT adhere too, and the nail naturally has a shine and smoothness that things don't want to stick to. And that's generally how it goes with most adhesion in the world. When it comes to gluing anything, you often have to sand or roughen a surface to create lots of textural irregularities so that the glue has many crevices to sink into, and it creates a grip. When something is smooth and shiny, there's no grip, there's less friction and much more slip, y'know?

I have a hard time getting my nails done the way i like because i have short, conicle, thin curling nails. I never see videos where the nail tech uses someone with this type of nail/shape. I this unfortunately just triggered me so bad. I naturally have strong healthy nails that tend to grow pretty fast. In may I decided to go on a trip for my birthday. I rarely wear colors or enhancements on my nails, but for this trip I wanted to treat myself to a matching gel mani/pedi. My nail tech was amazing did a perfect job with a sheer neutral color. This lasted me some time before my next manicure(I generally do them on my own bevause I'm particular about the shape and feel of my nails). The next manicure I unfortunately had to book with another nail tech. She seemed nice. She was a bit young. She pulled out her drill to take off the previous manicure and that's when the damage began. She drilled the entire manicure off instead of drilling and using solvent. Which is fine but in this case She drilled too much. She gauged my thumb enough for me to noticed and feel and played it off saying "I just need to even it out. I let It go and then she applied thick heavy coats of a glittery gel to my nails. That same night I one of my nails started chipping so I had to go get it fixed a few days later. That same week more nails started to Crack and chip. For a bout 3 weeks I had that manicure. When I went back to get my nails done again I went to my original nail tech and upon removing the gel(drill and solvent) we both realized that damage that was caused by the previous nail tech. There are cracks, chips, scratches, and gouges all over my nails. They're extremely fragile at the moment and are constantly breaking. I tried to step out of my comfort zone and it really bit me in the butt. Thankfully my nails are growing back oretty fast but u can't help but notice they're now extremely short, brittle, and bend frequently
@NailCareerEducation
@NailCareerEducation Жыл бұрын
Yes, sadly that is a common experience for many. But do know that this damage is very temporary. They are weak and bending right now, until the last bit of damage has grown off. Then your nails will return to normal. But this is a case in point of knowing your nail technician and knowing your nail technician skill level. Clearly, the girl that was doing it that made the mistakes is not as experienced. You always want to book with the other person. Which is interesting because they work in the same salon. So apparently the manager/owner is not training them of the quality. They should have the first nail technician train the other nail technicians.
