Thanks George, Yes cost wise, especially if you need to make a lot of fence, is very good. The fine mesh is what will make the visual difference, however the fence frame must be close to as good as you can buy in kit form. Cheers Gormo

Ah yes...been there done that and decided I didn`t like my fingers stuck together. The wire in the Superglue is very effective if you want to give it a go, however after a while, you need to scrape the end of the wire to clean it because a Superglue ball builds up on the end of it. The ball starts to pick up more Superglue than you need eventually. Cheers Gormo

Personally, I think if it looks good, it is good, however some people are rather pedantic about everything being perfect, so it won`t suit them because it will look too heavy. The reason I used the wire is that it is relatively easy compared to the other methods and when it is painted and weathered I reckon it scrubs up OK. The best way is to try a test piece and see what you think.? Cheers Gormo

Thanks Ray, In the UK, you could probably try and find the Ratio mesh which apparently comes with their fencing kit. My friend here in Oz uses it. We use the wire mesh (25mm) for the flies here in Oz....the finer stuff is for the Mosquitoes.....LOL Cheers Gormo

G`day Bruce Welcome aboard and I`m glad to hear you had success with building your fences and you`ve improved the technique as well. Well done. The fence built this way is not for the purists, but then again, who wants to spend many long hours building a scale fence when a simple method like this looks fine.? Most scenic stuff on our layouts is usually viewed from about three feet away from the subject, so fences built with this method, look like fences from three feet away......that`ll do me. Gormo, one thing I forgot to mention. For the chain wire. I purchased some wire through Ali Express some time back. I It is the right size, aluminum colored, has diamond shape holes and looks really realistic. And it was a little more sturdy than flywire but easily able too be cut.I will use this in future... A1 meter by 60 cm roll only cost around $13. Had to wait a bit for delivery - up to 6 weeks- but its worth it. Another idea for your readers

G`day Alistair, You could either air brush or dry brush with a normal brush. I have dry brushed in this instance ,with acrylic paints. I have gone with the rusty not cared for look by using black, burnt sienna, brown and anything else that will give that random weathered look. I have also painted a section near my goods shed, silver, to represent a brand new piece of fence. It`s up to you what course you follow, but I would suggest experimenting on scrap material before you take the plunge into the final product. Cheers Gormo

G`day Bobby, The fly screen mesh is nylon. I think the haberdashery solution would be closer to the right scale, so I would go with that for you guys in England. The fly screen mesh is actually too heavy and over scale, but it`s what I had available, so I used it. I feel the wire I used for the fence frame is right, so combined with a finer mesh, it should give a really good result. Cheers Gormo
