This must be early 70s. Most of the fellows in the streets are now dead. I was there, in high school, and I'm still around, I'm 69, with a little time left. The young fellas crowding Nairobi today have no idea what they missed.

Hi mutuura Iam 45 so I could say iam the generation after you. Iam sure you have a wealth of stories about this era. Would be lovely to catch a drink with you and listen to your stories. And I think 69 isn't really that old😄😄

This is the Nairobi of my formative years. Walked these streets to go to nursery school and primary school, changing buses in town. I remember this very well.

its a sad day when i have to go back in time to appreciate Nairobi as it was not as it is today and i wasnt even born yet. i would give anything to travel back to the 70's with the little cash i have start something worthwhile when things were simpler and cheap live life so that i would be old and retiring in the 2020's not starting.

I have same feeling like you brother. Those were the days. No terrorism, no tribalism, handful of corruption, good fresh and charming environment.I wish I was born in the early and mid 50s to enjoy those peaceful days. Think we are in wrong generation.

@@KINGMANJARO_343 I am from that generation. I hardly had any toys but I would play a soccer game with bottle tops and make my own toys, like a boat from a piece of wood. In going to a shop we would spend a long time talking to the shop-keeper. We lived in Ngara and sometimes the head lamp of the VW would get stolen but otherwise it was quite safe.

Lived it! Feel blessed. BTW Nairobi was super clean those days, very beautiful at night (well-lit shop windows without barricades/steel shutters). Very efficient buses, always on time. The only slum we knew of was Mathare, Kibra hadn't gained notoriety, the Mukurus did not exist. The only drawback was overcrowded buses and matatus, people hanging out the doors.
@thescribe76453 жыл бұрын
you should look into the lives of your ancestors at that time, we may see this with sepia tinted nostalgia but let's not forget opportunities for too many African Kenyans were missing!! Many were still in deep poverty.. offices were full of wazungu and wahindi..
