In this animate lecture, I will teach you the concept of atomic number and mass number. You will also learn that how can we calculate atomic number and mass number.
Q: What is atomic number?
Ans: Atomic number is defined as the total number of protons present in the nucleus of an atom. Atomic number is sipmly the number of protons present in an atomic.
For example, the atomic number of Hydrogen element is 1. The atomic number of Carbon element is 6.
Q: What is mass number?
Ans: Mass number is defined as the sum of total number of protons and neutrons present in the nucleus of an atom. Mass number or atomic mass is equal to the total number of protons and neutrons present in the nucleus.
For example, the mass number of Car is 12 units. Mass number of an Oxygen is 16 units.

Sir, how come atomic mass is being taken same as mass number ? both are different . is not it ? atomic mass is mass of an atom and mass number is number of proton+ neutron in an atom.... also kindly advice if mass of 1 proton in a carbon atom is equal to 1 proton in say hydrogen or oxygen or any other element ? and if mass of 1 proton of carbon is equal to mass of 1 neutron of carbon ? thank you

I have a doubt ... The precise mass number of Chlorine is 35.5.... it has 17 protons and electrons, does that mean it has 18.5 neutrons...but how can it have 0.5 neutrons

Z =8 So number of proton is 8 since atom is neutral hense no of electron will be equalbtobproton that is 8, A =atomic mass /mass no is 16 So , P + N = 16 8 +N = 16 Number of Neutrons in oxygen atom = 16 -8 =8 ❤❤❤❤
