It's time to use up some of our blueberry harvest! Our blueberry harvest this year came from 3D Blueberry Farm, a local U-pick Blueberry Farm. We're making blueberry jam without pectin! If you don't have fresh blueberry fruit then frozen blueberries should work just fine. Come join us and learn how we make our jam on the homestead. Do you have a favorite jam recipe? We would love to know!

I was so glad to see someone can the old fashion way. I don't turn jars upside down and have never had a problem with sealing. I also boil my jar for at least 5 minutes and leave them in the hot water until ready to fill them.

The recipe sounds lovely, though I've never tried blueberry jam. My husband buys blueberries for his breakfast smoothies but he buys straight from the grower and keeps them in the freezer. Sometimes I snaffle some for blueberry and banana muffins and one year the grower gave me two 1 kg bags specially for this purpose. 🙂

turning the jars upside down is not seen as a proper way to seal jars anymore. the organizations who recommended or approved this method before have come back from it. high risk of poisoning your family, watch out!. love your recepie, will try out soon! thanks!

Thanks for the recipe!!! I might try it with coconut sugar instead of the granulate sugar!! Says 1 to 1 portions! Great Video! Did you make one with strawberries? I couldn't find one. Also, Will I ruin the jam if I stick the extras in the freezer?!?! Thanks!!! 🤗♥️🙏🏼

Whats wrong with pectin? My granny just grated an apple in with the blueberries and that gave enough natural pectin.

PS: Thanks for the tip about turning the jars upside down. That was new to me. And incidentally I've never used pectin in my homemade jams. A bit of lemon juice is handy if the fruit is low in pectin. Now do you think my husband will notice if I steal 6 cups of his blueberries? ;-)

How long does the canned jam remain good to eat?
@BigFamilySmallFarm
@BigFamilySmallFarm 4 жыл бұрын
The official answer is they recommend using it within a year to avoid “loss of quality”. The reality is that it’ll last a long time. Can’t say exactly how long because we’re a family of 6 though. Don’t remember the last time a jar was left over after a year. 😂

Well... I just tried your recipe. The temp never came up to 220° . When I filled my 2 'pint' jars, I flipped the 1st one over and it popped open! 😕My towel is stained to remind me, I will not be trying that again. It tastes good, though I did have to cut back on the sugar. Thx

I made 6 times the recipe and also put 6 times the lemon juice. I think that was a mistake because even after cooking it down for several hours, it was too liquid. What would you suggest? Lynda in Beaumont, California
