Yeah Nami’s story is absolutely heartbreaking losing her mother, forced to work for Arlong in the hope she would buy her village its freedom only to learn Arlong had not intention of honoring his promise to her. It was also a big development for Nami her being too proud or ashamed how you see it to ask for help for her to breakdown and ask her captain for help takes a lot for her and Luffy just doing so with no question even after Nami telling him to leave. It was this moment Luffy truly was a pirate Captain marching down to face Arlong going to what could be his death and having his crew follow him shows how different Luffy is from Arlong he inspires his crew he walks the walk and Luffy will go to hell and back for his friends. Can’t wait until the finale.

Nami's backstory is definitely the scene that hooks people, regardless of the medium. The live action has considerably shortened and changed the arc, and while there's some improvements, there's quite a few things that were completely cut out. If you ever choose to read the manga or check the anime (which is an interesting adaptation in its own right!) you may just find that this version of Nami's arc is still somewhat tame on the feels because of various story elements that were cut out.

@@curtishammer748 still a lot of money, would take a long time to earn or to steal - ok, some may say longer to earn than to steal, but could still take a while to steal (planning and making sure you're thought of everything so you won't get arrested or loose the money wise at least)

Nami did have a dream despite what she'd told Luffy and she'd been desperatly holding onto the hope that it would somehow happen. On some level she was wise enough to not trust Arlong but all she had was hope.

The stabbing on the arm thing was the actual scene from the anime. The actress is the huge fan of One Piece and really wants the scene to be exactly the same.

I love one piece and the first season was pretty cool. But Netflix writing is hilarious. “PIRATES ARE ATTACKING THE VILLAGE! RUN!” “…what’s going on?”
