“Strandwolf” is another name given to the brown hyenas on Namibia’s Skeleton Coast. This wild, dry stretch of shoreline is an extreme place to live, but it suits hyenas perfectly. Or it did - until now. The seal colonies which brown hyenas feed on are gradually disappearing. As the ocean warms up, algae poison the water and there are fewer fish for seals to eat. What does this mean for the future of Namibia’s hyena clans? We follow Tosca the strandwolf to find out.
For more insights on the natural world and our changing planet, join us every week for a brand-new video. Sign up for notifications to make sure you never miss out!

So if we can cover 4-5km an hour (including some motivation or a sick beats to match with our steps and keep us going), and you can time your walk you'll reach the 10km and maybe up to 20. Cool that is if you want to, no pressure 👋

A good video idea would be on the Red Wolf, they’re the only remaining other species of wolf besides the gray wolf (the other types of current wolves are subspecies of the gray wolf) and while the red wolf used to be abundant throughout the southeast of the US now there is less than 100 left in the wild and can only be found in North Carolina.

Ikr, ive come across so many people online who say they want hyenas to all be slaughtered because theyre "disgusting evil vermin that steal and eat baby animals" like wtf 😭. I feel like so many people watched the lion king growing up and then made up there minds there and then that all hyenas were intentionally and maliciously evil creatures, and not just normal animals trying to survive. It really disgusts me, a hyena is just like a cat or dog; a normal animal. I wish they were respected and appreciated more.

Not hating them or anything, (I think this is one of my favourite canine now) but why do they need that much intelligence to kill sealpups? He is like 10x faster than them, he has a bite force to easily crush a medium sized rock, and he is killing lone sealpups on the open beach. Yes, when they grow up and there are no sealpups, even killing a slow, clumsy, fat seal is easy. Yes they are dangerous but there are alaways some juveniles. Now compare this to the other hyenas. They need to fight lions and bulls to find food. I think the narrator gives them little too much credit Wow this is long

the seals used to live on islands off the coast of Namibia but because of humans mining those islands for phosphate they have been forced to the shore where they meet new predators

seals: Hahaha, this shore is too rocky and difficult for orcas to eat our babies, we're safe! Hyenas and jackals: you think so?
@Fyttiana

it's not really the fault of seals, that was usually the case for many thousands of years. Because of recent human mining operations on Namibian islands seal have been forced onto the shores where they are meeting a new foe woefully unprepared, only used to oceanic predators.

Great film. Cannot fanthom why the seals are just lying there. If anyone here is following the Ocean Conservation Namibia channel you know that anything running sends those seals straight to the sea. Yet here they lie. Oh well, a free snack for the strandwolf.

it's because the seals aren't used to having a predator on land but due to mining operations on the Namibian islands the seals now have to seek refuge on the shore where they are fighting an unfair match against land animals they have never encountered before.
