What a wonderful video! My family of 4(two boys) were not keen on the self drive option UNTIL we witnessed this epic adventure....August 2018 we will make it happen. I will credit this video as the game changer. Thank you so much!

Your video is amazing, good rythm in the alternance of film/pictures, not annoying at all, very interesting and so beautiful. Like the variety of gears that you used to film, the views from the drone are impressive ! Thank you for sharing such a good video of your family vacation, seems like you had fun ;-) Going in Namibia next year... ;-) Cheers

GoPro's are pretty small, add a gimbal and the footage is smooth(er). The drone was a pain - phantom 4 - too big. I now have a Mavic Pro - does the job just as well but much smaller. You need glass however for the close-up shots of animals - that's large and heavy. So yes, in a nutshell, a lot of gear :-) Sorting out and cutting is very time consuming. The first time it takes forever, then you get faster as the experience stacks up.

Hobnob Blingstone - This is a great video share. So often videos do not explain where people have been and how long they were there. Love how you tube allows us all to see updated travel info for places we may want to visit. You family must have loved it. Being a regular overland visitor to Namibia two questions:- 1. How did the teens manage without wifi :) 2. Did you take you phantom into areas with no cellphone reception? i.e. was the sufficient coverage to fly it all the time? We go to some very remote places and am keen to buy a Mavric pro, but concerned about it working with out cell towers? Any lovely job selling Namibia. And for your next trip Botswana.... it's awesome!
@hobnobblingstone3467 жыл бұрын
Hi Hughes Home - thanks for the flowers :-) 1. We weren't entirely without WiFi and used it whenever we got a chance + I purchased a cheap SIM card in a second phone and hotspotted where possible - that sufficed! 2. Yes, Phantom + Mavics fly no problem without cell reception. I swapped out my Phantom for a Mavic Pro meanwhile and was in Canada (Yukon) this summer, totally off the grid for 10 days, the Mavic flew every day. I made sure though to connect to GPS + Internet and updated all Firmware and caches before going offline.

I'm going to namibia botswana, namibia and south africa next year , just curious how much does it cost to hire a fully equiped hilux like yours per day , great video
@hobnobblingstone3466 жыл бұрын
Depends on the season (high/low), size of motor, brand of the vehicle, age of the vehice, type of insurance. I compared quite a bit. Ended up with an automatic vehicle (vs. gearshift) which was more expensive but more comfortable. Paid roughly USD 110 per day, fully equipped, full insurance. Make sure you book early - I didn't have much choice in the end!

@hobnobblingstone3466 жыл бұрын
You have a combination of cold Benguela current flowing up from the south pole and winter - that makes for some uncomfortably cold swimming! We did see some kids play in the surf somewhere and we waded in up to our knees, but no further!

Many compliments for this video! At first it seemed long, but it is very nice to watch. A nice combination of stills, video's and aerial shots with relaxing music on the background. We have been to Namibia 17 years ago and are considering to go again- and this video is very convincing giving lots of new ideas of places to go and things to do. Just a question- which song starts playing at 29:55?

We really enjoyed watching this video of your family vacation in Namibia! What a wonderful record of your adventures in this beautiful country. My wife and I visited Namibia for the first time in Mar/April 2016 and will return again this coming June. Your video was very nicely done and gave me lots of ideas on how to improve my videography! Our video from 2016 is here: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/i6eHoM56vLq6hoE.html It includes many of the places that you visited, so it was interesting to compare the seasons. Thank you so much.

@hobnobblingstone346 Жыл бұрын
Relax, no animals were harmed (much) during filming. Animal lives matter! My son only slightly bumped three Kudu and knocked off just a small piece of an elephant's tusk before rolling over a lion's tail while trying to keep the vehicle under control as you can clearly see in the video. You won't believe what happened when he took the car for a spin on his own through Windhoek!
