I find myself watching your videos multiple times over, which is DEFINITELY not my norm. It’s just the fact that you interviewed legends, and we can see things from their perspective. Straight from the horses mouth, and no hearsay. Love your videos where you also train with legends. Something about catching them in time, forever. Like ancient people frozen in ice, or caught in amber for eons. Good videos!

Amazing video and project, and not just because Namkabuan is probably my all time fav nak muay. Look forward to seeing more. Aside from the obvious plus points of doing these type of videos I feel that they get straight to the heart and truth of the fight(s) in question and what the competing nak muay really felt (judging by Namkabuan's honest recollections) - the videos will give us truth and cut through the muddy and cliched opinions of the many social media "commentators" throughout the youtube world when it comes to Muay Thai in Thailand.

Great video, I wonder if there is a way to access records for the weight advantages given back then. One of the most impressive things about Saenchais run is that we know exactly how much weight he was giving up to everyone, I wonder what it was like for the golden age legends?
@8limbsUs
@8limbsUs 4 жыл бұрын
The weight differences were much more pronounced back in the Golden Age. Rules were changed to keep weights much closer somewhere in the 2000s I believe. It was not uncommon for the very best of one weight class to fight yodmuay in the weight class above, back in the day.

I love how Namkabuan has pure respect for Dekkers. Most Thais do. They'd hire trainers to watch Dekker train, to try beat him. I dunno Sylvie, you didn't give Dekkers the respect the man deserves but Namkabuan definitely did. Dekkers got recognition from the king of Thailand. I watched most of his fights. He fought some extremely tough guys. There were stories of weight cuts and this and that. End of the day, a fighters pride will make an excuse. Dekkers never turned a fight down. Fact. Regardless of when and where he fought anyone. He did not try to cut corners. Dekkers, he didn't need to know clinch! He struck fear into his opponent out of pure heart. If he can do that without clinch then... Yea. The man was vicious. I seen him stop a guy with 1 kick so hard, when his opponent blocked he immediately stopped and put his hand up. Dekker just didn't flinch. Did you know he almost had his leg amputated? Did you know he was told to quit fighting but instead trained southpaw and fighting 50% of his body he still won! Dekkers to me is the epitome of fighter. Thais are tough, Dekker was and will always remain one of the toughest guys to step in a ring. His mental will and heart was unique. Even to Thais. You need to learn his story and your respect for that man will skyrocket. Multiple fractures, multiple surgeries and constant battle with agonising pain due to his relentless style of fighting. Search for a documentary called "the man behind the knockouts". I just feel you didn't give him the respect Namkabuan did. That guy knew who Dekkers was and he respected him. That I respect.

@8limbsUs
@8limbsUs 4 жыл бұрын
Dieselnoi was taller than his opponents, but not on the scale bigger. As he points out being very tall is not always an advantage. It takes great skill to turn that anatomy into an advantage. If being tall were a basic advantage like just being heavier is, all the great fighters would be tall fighters. In fact very few great Muay Thai fighters were tall. I think it good to hear what a Thai opponent like Namkabuan thought of fighting Dekkers, it's a side of the story seldom told.
