6 ай бұрынAt NAMM 2024, we met with Kurt from Groove Synthesis to explore the latest offering from the company, the Third Wave Desktop, featuring the new 1.7 operating system update. This update brings significant enhancements to the synth, including an improved virtual analog waveform oscillator and the incorporation of sequential Prophet VS wavetables. A major addition is MPE support and Kurt showed us the modulation routings for MPE parameters, allowing users to leverage Y-axis control and polyphonic aftertouch, bringing expressive capabilities to the forefront.
Kurt also demonstrated the more gnarly side of the 3rd Wave by disabling interpolation and navigating through individual parts of the wave for glitchy effects. The synth is not limited to virtual analog sounds; it offers FM modulation with 3-operator FM capabilities, providing users with a diverse sonic palette.

The MPE support actually arrived with firmware 1.6. And its not the easiest thing in the world to demonstrate, especially within the confines of a trade show, but its a glorious thing to play with in the flesh for yourself. This synth is magical and the MPE support has been the cherry on the cake for me since it arrived last summer.

Would buy a bitimbral or even monotimbral 8 voice of this. Would keep the costs down and keep it practical. I dont need and can't afford a monster like this, but if they could reduce it for those who dont have the 5k to spend on a synth sure they'd have another hit on their hands!

Yes. $1,500 is a lot of money saved. If you go for the desktop module make sure you have a good keyboard controller with polyphonic aftertouch and MPE capability.

Way way way expensive.... My Korg Modwave does it for me. And to my ears sounds nicer anyway.

Bad demo, great synth. Tomorrow I will be playing the keyboard version at a friend's place who could actually afford it. I chose to buy a 16 voice Waldorf M and Iridium and a Sequential Pro 3 SE instead. Tomorrow I will know if I made the right decision.

Before you come back, yes I think you did. I was going to get an Iridium but reliability put me off ... ended up with A Korg Modwave for my wavetable synth sounds... very organic and lush. This thing looks groovy but it's a heavy spend.

@@stevekirkby6570 You were right. I made the right decision. I played it for almost four hours. It can produce some of the artefacts my PPG Wave 2.3 had. In terms of sound, the Waldorf M and the 3rd Wave are very close. The sound is excellent. The 3rd Wave has more bells and whistles and a better user interface than the M but the Iridium has more features and a better UI than the 3rd Wave. I read the Iridium desktop screen had issues. My keyboard version has the newer screen. No reliabilitiy issues so far. Here in Europe, Waldorf is cheaper than Amercan brands whereas in America, the opposite is true.

Not a good demo for one of the most creative synths ever produced. This is the only $4000+ synth (with keyboard) I have ever heard and seen that I would consider buying. Why? The wave table auto configure built into this synth. No more long preparation of a wave for import just to find out it doesn't sound good. We can throw all sorts of waves at this and in just a few minutes find out if it is usable. It is a teachable synth, eventually we will know which imported waves work best for the kind of sound we are designing.
