I haven't been following you, but after watching Zatara put new Yanmar engines into their Leopard, with Just Catamarans doing the heavy lifting, and cutting new lift holes in their hulls I'm very impressed that you two did this yourselves through the original engine access hatches. Well Done!

Well thank you very much. It’s been a steep learning curve for sure but we somehow managed to bend the laws of physics on this one i think. 😜 We were so keen to do the job ourselves and seeing how the pro’s did it on zatara, I’m pretty pleased we did. Hope you find some of our other videos worth a watch too. There’s plenty where this came from. 😃

Motores com 20 anos!!! e com milhares de horas, o problema dos nanis é a assistência por esse mundo fora
@RedSeas
@RedSeas 5 ай бұрын

Cant understand how anyone could set off across oceans knowing that if they have to do anything serious to the engine, they need to wait for a qualified mechanic to show up…3000nm from land! Nanni have nailed it with these guys. Super simple to maintain, easy to access parts and smart design ideas throughout.

Just for your information: There is no cyclone warning for coming days (last week of March). I live at Moorea (sister island of Tahiti) - there might be light thunderstorms in French-Polynesia the next few days, but not at iles du vent (= Tahiti and Moorea). Just check the official weather forecast Meteo-France Polynesie française. We had warning of cylone, called NAT, at beginning of February. This cylone went by French-Polynesia in between 150 and 300 km distance, so we had quite windy weather, high waves and a lot of rainfall. But there was no direct cyclone hit at Tahiti and Moorea. This summer due to El Niño weather phenomenon (by the way summer normally here means rain season from October to March) there is this summer also cyclone season till April 2024. Other thing: Customs duty as well import sales tax are very high in French-Polynesia - so be prepared for unexpected costs. Wish you the best and good luck for your remarkable journey. Greetings from Moorea - from beach of our lagoon we can see across to Tahiti - maybe you see our waving 🤙🤙 👋👋😎😎🏖🏖🌴🌴

Hey! Great to hear from you. Yes, it looks like great weather ahead. Our episodes are just a little behind real time. Meaning the episode you just watched was during that February cyclone warning 😊 We will have to keep in contact for when we make it to moorea! Perhaps you can show us the best secret parts of the island 😉 Customs has indeed been a challenge. If you watch the episode previous to this one, we shared our unexpected customs bill and how we worked with the officials to get the new engines released. Moorea (and Tahiti) have been so cool to explore. Incredibly beautiful and full of friendly people. We will give our biggest wave to you now and hopefully you can see it. 😊

But seing all paperwork and all additional costs at port with customs (fortunately home embassy and our friends informed us before) we moved overhere only with 11 pieces of luggage - we were the "eyecatcher" at airport. 😂 Just send message here, when coming to Moorea (Opunohu Bay is a great place for anchoring). Would be great to meet.

I take it as a very bad sign if EVERYTHING is painted. It says they simply took a sprayer to the assembled motor and hosed it down with paint. A properly painted motor will have things painted purposefully. For instance the pully/fan to the alternator wouldn't be painted. The windings visible through the alternator case wouldn't be painted.
@RedSeas
@RedSeas 2 ай бұрын
It’s a good point. Nanni are a bit more meticulous in this area. A lot of the engine is painted but they clearly do this prior to assembly and then touch ups there after as we can see the pulleys are not patchy where the belt would be wearing etc. like yanmar, vovle and beta, this is something of a trademark.

@@RedSeas ever need mechanical advice, you know where to find me, Listen to the manufacturer on break in, but the most important is to vary the Rev range, I’m talking seriously, especially in the first 10 hours, holding at low revs eg 1500 rpms for 10 hours is the worst you can do, Vary them up and down, up and down, And pay attention to the temperature, because the tolerances are now very low, (they are new) only give any higher revs when the engines are hot, 90% of wear happens at cold running.. but definitely listen to the manufacturer.. Seriously happy for you guys!

Great question. and it depends on the model you get I think. The N4.50 model that we are putting in here is Kubota based. It is a popular engine for use in marine applications. Nanni, Beta, Onan and more have different methods of doing this. We are particularly liking the design decisions that Nanni have made to protect the engine from salt water corrosion and electrolysis.

Spare parts are easy to find anywhere in the world, don’t cost the earth or require certified yanmar mechanics to install and reset ECUs. Just a few reasons.
