This video is the first of many on my vintage cars from the collection, The sand Scorcher to me is one of the best Tamiya RC ever made. Consider that the model is more than 40 years old and still performs very well. As usual I made some upgrades on: suspensions, electronics and added lights (vintage bulbs).

Great car, great video! I only have just bought a Sand Scorcher in the last few years - couldn't afford one in the 80s! But I remember them, I knew 2 lads who actually had the Rough Rider (sister vehicle?) - we used to take our off-road bikes to a disused quarry in the 80s, they used to take Rough Riders - we'd swap rides and then let our bikes cool while they re-charged their batteries from the car battery (Ford Capri I think) - always wanted one so got one of eBay a few years ago, of course the Super Champ was the one to have - mono shock! anything mono shock, anodised or chrome was cool in the 80s! great times!!!

The quintessential Tamiya R/C off road car! First off-road I had was a Tamiya Frog, then an Associated R/C 10. I remember going to Toys By Roy in Dallas ~ '86-'87 and watching the non-stop video.. Raced quite a bit during the '80s in Grapevine (DFW) Texas. My first car, an Associated R/C 12 E (road racer) was fun on the indoor carpet track with 4 cells... Bob

Beautiful Sand Scorcher! Love the extra touches.. especially the lights. It’s great that you used incandescent bulbs instead of leds as the quality of light is different. Thanks for sharing!👍😎

Hi Nanni, oh wow! What a treat for us! The original Sand Scorcher and with two bodies. One with some great LEDs and a rear licence plate lighting. I remember the 7.2v NiCad hump pack battery, so amazing that you managed to open and replace the NiCad cells for NiMh cells and reseal the plastic case again. And then the running, what a treat. I can see why you really like this iconic RC. Take care and best wishes to you and the family 😊😁😉

When I bought it I thought it was a sort of fantasy model, very nice and performing. Few years later I went to California and.... Bang I sow a real one! In my ignorance I didn't know That in USA there were this kind of Beetle (something different but on the same line of the Mayer Manx dune buggy). After this my love for this car increased at the top level. Ciao Nanni

Thanks for sharing. The Sand Scorcher was one of my first RC in my teens. My first was a Monster Beetle which I still own today. I too had a Sand Scorcher soon after my Beetle. Loved it to bits though I had to sell it to fund another RC. I recently bought a re release Sand Scorcher, and it brought back fond memories. I like the lights specially the number plate lights!

That is an awesome car Nanni! I love the lights on it and seeing it out driving once it was getting dark was just perfect!!! It really looked like a rally or desert racer with the light and kicking up all the dust, wonderful job. I love that it is an original car too, not a modern one. That really adds to the cool factor that after 40 years it is still out there tearing up the track! You really should be proud of that one!!!!!

Great car, great show. Thank you Nanni. The Sand Scorcher was my first 'real' RC-car as well, and I loved it. But I think I was a little too young to understand the maintnance and mechanics of it, I was only 10 at the time and I remember we paid extra to have the car built by an expert. So when things broke down my mom couldn't help, and I didn't have the skills nor the budget to replace parts. So my Sand Scorcher ended up in the basement where it was stolen during a break-in. Nowadays I bought, and built, a few new Tamiya RC-cars, Sand Scorcher 2014 and the Fighting Buggy / Super Champ, and I love them as never before. These are some of the most important toys of my life, and I will always treasure them.

Nooo! Who was that criminal, A baby band? Nice story thanks for sharing. I think common to many of us. For example when I was ten or something like that, for an unfair punishment my father took away all my toys and now..... you all can se what happened . Ciao!!

Sorry to hear you had your original SS stolen. I was 12 yo and mounted my car on my own. With English (foreign language for me) I struction manual nobody to help me at home for mechanics it was quite a challenge. But I remember the step by step manual with schematics was very helpful. Since I lost the original bodyshell I bough a new one on which I plan to put lights and left/right indicators. Excellent t job you did on your 7.2 battery pack and lights. My batpack somehow melted! And the 'waterproof' casing melted a bit to !

For the Tamiya Sand and Rough(same chassis) it was a Mabushi 540 motor. No special or upgraded motor existed in early 80s.

This video is superb I enloyed it from start to finish, Superb driving skills you sure know how to handle a Scorcher ! I have three running SRB's all with different mods on them. I'm currently working on customizing my F150 to become a shelf queen which now has working lights, it took me a while to find some suitable light buckets which I could modify to fit the F150 grilll/bumper panel as it never had lights as you probably know. After much cutting, shaping, filing and sanding later they fit perfectly and like your good self I used incandescent bulbs from the Tamiya Porsche 959. On a side note I have used Tamiya (halogen) LED's on my Porsche 934 and they are a vast improvement to the regular white LED's Are you on Tamiyaclub by any chance? Thanks for sharing.

@philfrydman2576

What's a ball diff ? Is there a differential gear for the rear and whre does it fit ?
@bradkalman2353
@bradkalman2353 5 ай бұрын
@@philfrydman2576 a ball diff uses pressure little pressure washer plates and a gear that houses little tiny round balls has a pressure plate to give it limited slip action and it allows open differential action in the turns.
