It’s the title of the new film by Lijo Jose Pellissery, one of Malayalam cinema’s most inventive and invigorating filmmakers- his earlier films include Jallikattu, India’s entry for the Oscars in 2019. Lijo is often referred to as the master of chaos. But this film is a departure - it’s quieter and more still. Mammootty started his career in 1971 (Anubhavangal palichakal) which was the last movie of the great actor Sathyan. In this movie he appeared in a single shot. In 1973 he got a dialogue in the movie " kala chakram". Then in 1980 vilkkanundu swapnangal.

That moment when the film makers drop the song 'Veedu Varai Uzhavu ' is probably the greatest goosebumps moment in recent years. Watching it again , my day off today, atleast 2 times and more. I just can't get enough of this film.

The journey of faith is not about what we can get out of it, but, instead, how God can transform us from within. This is also a spiritual journey believers being village simpletons who are building temples and believes in the return of a soul and other doubters whose belief is somewhat transactional. In the end, James has a spiritual awakening and becomes Sundaram (a beautiful person).

As a tamil audience I understood those old songs played in the background are exactly related to the particular scenes, "veedu varai uravu" the climax song we used to play in final departure, which exactly matches when sundaram's soul getting off and James returning from the village.

⭐⭐⭐⭐ A reference film for acting Conveyed emotions of all the characters without cinematic gimmics. An outstanding perfomance by mammookka backed up by Top notch cinematography and a subtle yet powerful direction by the master director. Simple on the birds eye view but has many layers that can be discussed. This movie is as good as the imaginative capability of the viewer.Go for it❤

As someone who is both a malayali and a tamilian..it was a real treat to watch! Some slight references and insights into the movie can be found in the choice of songs or the dialogues from the old tamil movies. And it can be really a mystery for someone who can't understand both the languages

@ssss I am not a fanboy of Mohanlal.I don't have much interest in honey rose too.I agree monster was a low movie.Still i enjoy the movie up to interval and definitely enjoyed Mohanlal's dialogues with Honey Rose.His presentation, conduct and bodu language on that scenes were fine only..One more thing_Mohanlal' s expressions reduced bit off late(may be after alleged botox treatment).Still there is no problem with his performances in Action Sequences.He's still top in that aspect.

Mammotty's Thaniyavarthanam made me a huge fan of "slow" movies. Though it is the script that is fantastic, the acting (from mammotty ,to thilakan to kaviyoor ponnamma, mukesh, saritha) were stunning

All LJP movies are unique. The divinely comic Amen, the Chaos in Angamaly Diaries, carefully drawn out human greed and lust in Jallikkettu and Churuli. But my favourite LJP movie is Ee.Ma.Yau. Booked tickets for Nanpakal today!

@@cinephile1050 Jallikattu is the name of famous bull fight in TN. It happens throughout TN around Pongal, Jan mid. But Madurai Alanganallur Jallikattu is the famous one. The connection is cow, bull, Tamil name etc.

Sadly, this film is not released in Chennai. My favorite Lijo film is the expletive-laden Churuli, a film about two cops in a land of ex-convicts detached from the rest of society.

So happy for RRR to win the GG, i am not in a race of mollywood to bollywood to tollywood its an Indian achievement and i am happy for it. Lijo has it in him to present Indian stories in a global format…. Just like how Salaam Bombay and Pather Panchali was made… Hope he wins that one day.

The products of Great Ray are truely global in nature classic in its aesthetic… Movies like Pather Panchali or G Aravindan’s Kummaty can be shown to any global audience the subject is global but making is so rooted to our land. Lijo has it in him to make such products… very few new age film makers can do that In India because we are so behind the commercial format and standard template….

Ameen of course , i think that was his debut film , not sure though. As you rightly said, master of chaos...when I watched Angamaly diaries I am sure I literally had no clue what direction next scene would take the story to...uncertainty drives him i guess. When a director like that goes in for killing in movies, most would not check on details of the story, would just jump right in, which makes that movie an adventure. Hopefully come out of it in one piece, sometimes not, remember Churulli, Audience is still working out whether there was an alien...:)

So so much is still there, if you see when james walks out of the bus he disappears likewise in the last part where sundaram steps out of the house he can be seen disappearing into thin air as he passes a piller and his shadow is left behind inside the house. This is just something that in the film people miss

Angamaly diaries and Jallikettu. When it comes to story telling and acting, Malayalam movies are definitely the best in India. No other Indian movie industry shows Hindu, Muslim and Christian characters and their traditions so factually, there is not stereotype.
