Here is a new video !!
This is a vintage giant table lighter showing Napoleon III on a coin.
It was in bad shape, very oxidized, white vinegar was very helpful on copper !
It's the first time I do 24k gold plating, it wasn't easy but I'm happy with the outcome...
Please watch till the end to see this vintage giant lighter in action !

Very satisfying watching the plating take place, not every day I see someone painting and electroplating successfully, most attempts I've seen haven't gone well, super impressed it came out looking so nice!

@@James-to7pi exactly the color that was before he gold plated it, gold plating regardless of the karat rating of the solution is gold plating that don't Make that lighter 24 karate gold. Whatever the metal is behind the plating is what your going to get the value of that's what is solid metal not the gold plating, whether it be nickle or copper. Gold plating has no value because there so little of the plated metal actually their. The solution has a karate rating the second you plate it the karate rating is gone oops.

@@fandoria09 zippo was founded in the 1930s Napoleon III was thrown out of France in 1870. In disgrace. For several decades after you’d still have imperialists owning lighters like that, hoping for their incompetent version of the OG Empreur to return. It’s not a zippo. They didn’t invent that style of lighter. They copied an already common design.

I wonder how many after dinner cigars and cigarettes had been lit by this marvelous piece of kitsch art in its day. It could easily adorn a movie set for a movie like "The Great Gatsby" or something similar to that. Millionaire tycoons with a brandy or port in one hand and a cigar in the other. It just inspires dreams of opulence.

Looks 99% better. I was a jeweler apprentice and if I handed that over to my teacher he would have made me do it again without all the micro scratches. Some are very noticeable. You seem to repeat that in your other videos. I made my first gold band and thought it was perfect and handed to my teacher waiting to hear Great JOB! instead he said start over, you are not actually looking into it. I put the loop back on and saw what he was saying. I see everything now. God Bless You Douglas Glenn! Sadly he passed. Best jeweler I have ever seen.

I’m really surprised the tank doesn’t leak when the lighter is closed and the tank is turned 90 degrees to horizontal. I guess the wicking material is supposed to hold the fluid and prevent it from weeping out. The key must be to not fill it with too much fluid. It’s an amazing and beautiful piece. The gold plating makes it look spectacular.

I Love watching the detailed process and the simple drilling out of the seized flint with the right size drill bit that has to be smaller than the interior hollow of the spring tube inside diameter but if that small bit wasn't on hand you could have clipped 1/8th to 1/4 of the threaded tube off as a last resort but the right tool for the job is Always ideal. I initially thought the whole casing was solid 24k gold until I started the video and knew there was No gold there but was only nickel but was perfect for you to plate with gold and another Fantastic restoration. I'm thankful that you identify the different solvents including the baking soda that has many other uses than for just baking bread and other foods, it has industrial uses to.

I have a chemistry question about cleaning the sponge with baking soda + white vinegar. Baking soda is a mild base and white vinegar is a mild acid. When the 2 components come together you get a new compound that isn't basic or acid (if added in the correct proportions). Sodium acetate. So my question is, does sodium acetate remove old oil deposits or did TheFabrik want the solution slightly acid to clean the sponge without destroying it? A base reacts with oils well but I thought I saw rust deposits in the sponge as well. If your trying to remove the rust deposits then the acid is a good choice. Was he cleaning both or was this a completely neutralized solution of sodium acetate to react with old deposits in the sponge?
