That's one serious bass singer! Someone mentioned The Velours - also The Videos had a bassman with similar style. And let's not forget Gerald Gregory of The Spaniels, either. The whole record puts the "roll" into rock & roll with a great groove! (A really good band helps, too - someone spent a few bucks on this one, and it shows.) Great post, PJ!

How about the Jive Five's "My True Story". The intro sure sounds like this. Other aspects are from other doo wop songs. All the pieces combined sound super. This is a keeper.

Fabulous sound from Napoleon Tyce along with an uncredited group, 'Pre-Shrine', outta Washington, DC c.1960. Sorta has that Jive Five sound to it at the beginning as a previous poster mentioned.

From 1963. It certainly does borrow parts of earlier songs including "My True Story", however it's a great sound. Flip is a funky instrumental revival of the old Mills Bros classic "Paper Doll"
