Nara Smith & The Internet's Obsession with (Fake) Tradwives

In this week's episode, I further explore the ideology behind the increasingly popular 'tradwife' lifestyle and discuss how this term is now being misused against mommy vloggers and creators who post domestic life content. I also dive into the questions around Nara Smith, TikToks' buzziest creator at the moment, to better understand if her content really is Mormon tradwife propaganda, or simply innocent lifestyle content with a focus on home and family life (and cooking for her kids from scratch).

please watch the video before commenting that nara isn't a tradwife or that I didn't do my research. this episode takes the accusations about her, explores what a tradwife actually is and the ideology behind it, and draws conclusions. there's a reason I put "fake" right in the title lol

i particularly love this episode because it’s a very informative video both politically and socially. I personally find making food from scratch especially for your kids such an obviously performative and unrealistic act but so many people are eating it up. It’s just not feasible. but then again, they are sellers of an unattainable and inherently racist lifestyle so it makes sense that it appears comical from the outside. Thank you for continuing infinite scroll, looking forward to your future plans!

She’s not the only one and I equally can’t with all of them. If they showed the hard and actually showed that things were hard and stressful and sometimes the recipes didn’t turn out. I’m not here for the fake. But real and authentic. This is far from reality even for the women who are making other moms feel less worthy. It’s toxic and it’s actually shameful

Nara never claimed to be a trad wife, OTHER people put that label on her bc she likes to cook. Little did they know she is a model and her husband, Lucky, also helps her cook… and clean… and do groceries… and takes care of the kids while she does the videos cooking from scratch. The actual trad wives got jealous of her. It sucks to see so many women hating on her for just wanting to live her life. She really is the goal. You are able to work, have kids (if you want to), while also having a loving PARTNER (not just a husband, but partner) who also helps you do the “womanly” duties

Nara obviously only portraits a very specific image of her, she wants to be seen in a very specific light and she’s highly strategic and manipulative about it. I genuinely believe that only people who healed from mental abuse can see through her Fassade. Why do you guys find it ok for online influencers to lie about their life and portray it as perfect? By saying that her content is ,normal‘ and that it’s just ,what every influencer does, they just portray everything nice about them‘, you are saying that you are ok with being lied at, and that people do not need to be truthful to themselves and to you. I personally appreciate honesty and authenticity, and I want people to be real with me. Nara is neither being honest nor authentic by hiding the fact that she is dependent on a whole team of cutters, cleaners and Nannie’s. I do not for one second want to be in her shoes, nor do I want to have what she has. I do not want a husband who never cooks for me in return, I do not want to pay other people for cooking for my family, when that means they don’t get to spend time with their own families. I do not need a kitchen like that and I do not see any practical value in being perfectly dressed for cooking or not having my sleeves rolled up. I do not need to buy a Louis Vuitton Bag or a second MacBook to make me feel happy and satisfied with my life (she has posted a vid like that) I actually find her life sad. If a person needs to buy expensive designer bags and other items of luxury brands (kitchen items) they do not really feel fulfilled, they are compensating for something that is missing in their life. If she only feels like she is worth something by being of value to her husband and serving others constantly, she is hurting herself by overworking herself for others. This woman is not emotionally fulfilled. People who do not find her content worrisome are ok with being lied at. If you thing she is just ‚minding her business‘, and you feel good by justifying her behavior, you probably think you are being empathetic and you are very likely prone to sympathize with abusers. The reason I am writing this is not because I want to prove people who like her wrong. It’s because I am concerned for the people who like and defend her. Please be save from manipulation and abuse. Because if it’s easy for you to be manipulated and deceived, it will be easy for you to be abused. I hope that you guys don’t have to learn the hard way and that you develop and eye for people portraying themselves in a ,perfect‘ way

@TumblrCats I literally left an abusive relationship last week with my kids, a relationship I had been trapped in for 10 years and I see your point but I just feel like if that's what she wants to do I don't think she should be shamed for it. Being in an abusive relationship for so long I know how it feels for other people to tell you what you should or shouldn't do without know the entire situation. Her posting those videos could be the one thing she has for herself and enjoys doing and you never know how people shaming her might end up affecting her. I would hope people know that what she portrays is unrealistic and I even agree that it's absolutely absurd but I think shaming her is unnecessary. I think it's ridiculous so I don't watch her but if she wants to post it and others want to watch it that's on them.

It's so pathetic that primarily women who are over the age of 30 are upset over family content. Nara is a young wife and mother making harmless content. You all aren't satisfied unless a woman is tricking and destroying her life. Anything else is unacceptable. It's ashame we commend a scandalous culture but bully a seemingly normal Christian family. Who by the way, are progressive in their own right. They're an interracial couple with unconventional careers. It's not typical for a woman of Black ancestry to have this amount of attention and viewership in a niche dominated by Caucasian women. Also, Nara's a published model and young mother. The industry normally frowns upon motherhood period especially when you're young, they wouldn't further your career. Yet, she's breaking molds. It's no surprise feminist aren't happy with her lifestyle all because she's beautiful, faith-based, and cooking. It has nothing to do with Mormonism or appearing unrealistic.

I’m a feminist, married, over 30 and not traditional, I can cook but don’t like cooking lol.I like that Nara does what she wants and takes care of her family while being a model. So, I don’t think the issue is feminism rather a society that cannot stand a woman displaying wealth and not struggling in a way. Many People cannot relate to her and in a way feel less than so therefore they make her the villain. Well, that’s just my take. I’m a feminist so I am for women doing what they like and thriving.

@@nwalden5744chile, you're upset about a very petty detail. If she put a recipe in the caption and claimed it'll only take 25 minutes rather than 3 hours there's some validity to your outrage. Otherwise, it just comes off as jealousy especially if you're not a teen or young adult. It's just pathetic for grown women to be on TikTok bullying someone about faith and family. You don't realize how ridiculous you sound?

Absolutely brilliant analysis!!!! BRAVO!!! New Subbie. You brilliantly put into words what I was thinking as I was noticing this beautiful dolphin that tragically got ensnared in this tradwife net full of sharks. If people would take 5 minutes to Google her they would see that she came to the marriage with $2 million more in wealth than her husband. Self made wealth to boot. So she is by no means a tradwife. She is an autonomous domestic diva and her husband is lucky (pun intended lol) to have her. Anxiously waiting for her cookbook by the way.
